It should normally be used in conjunction with Novia Double-Sided Adhesive Lap Tape for a fully sealed and airtight membrane installation. 2 Double-sided adhesive tape Introduction This is a double-sided self adhesive tape with a cloth carrier, using a clear synthetic rubber adhesive which is free of plasticisers. It is used for the lap sealing of breathable or temporary protection membranes. The tape has aggressive adhesion, high tack and good cohesion. 3 Novia Butyl Tape General Novia Double-Sided Butyl Tape is a high performance Polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape. The product is used in a wide range of applications where products or installations need to be sealed against air and water ingress. Novia Butyl Tape is cost effective, non toxic and requires no tools to apply. All rolls are accurate to use with little waste and no mess. This type of tape is primarily used within the construction membrane market for the lap sealing of VCL or DPM membranes. All surfaces should be dry, clean and free from debris, frost and grease. 4 Metallised BOPP Tape Novia Metallised BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) tape is an extremely high tack, high tear resistant, low emissivity and low moisture vapour permeability lap sealing tape for use in all air and vapour control layer and damp proof membrane applications. The use of a high specification hot melt adhesive gives the product superb adhesion, whilst the use of a high performance metalised polyester, instead of the traditional low strength combination of aluminium foil and paper, massively improves the overall strength and toughness of the tape. Novia Metallised BOPP tape should be used in all air and vapour control layer and damp proof membrane applications as an edge and lap sealing tape in conjunction with the main double sided butyl sealing tapes (see other Novia datasheets for butyl tape information). For the best results for airtightness and prevention of interstitial condensation, Novia advises the use of both lap and butyl tapes on all AVCL and DPM installations.
