4 JOINT INFORMATION Information needed to choose the best fire protection solution 5 4 Types of substrates e.g. concrete/steel Element type: Wall or floor Element thickness 4 Joint width, width: depth ratio FIRE RESISTANCE TESTS ACCORDING TO EN 66-4 Furnace with temperatures up to 00 C Substrate (e.g. concrete) Vertical sealant joint after testing 5 Kind of sealing: Single or double seal, exposed side or unexposed side Many parameters have an influence on the fire resistance of a building element including a sealing joint. Therefore it is crucial to know the details of the joint. With the above information you will be able to find the correct solution from the tables on the following pages. The resistance to fire for fire rated sealants is tested in simulated real-life situations as shown in the picture above. Joint sealants are always tested in a system together with other building materials ( e.g. concrete). In order to cover as many cases as possible our products are tested with various substrates, in various dimensions and configurations. For details please see the tables on the following pages. 6 7

10 EXAMPLE OF FIRE RATED SEALANT APPLICATION 4 4 Precast concrete elements Fire protection door Sika fire protection sealant, Sika Backer Rod Fire & SikaHyflex -50 or Sikaflex AT Connection Sika fire protection coating In the image above a possible application of fire rated sealants and protective coatings is illustrated. A big distribution center and warehouse is divided into several sections. To avoid the spread of fire and smoke between the sections several fire protection measures are taken. The walls are made of precast concrete elements that are sealed to each other with Sika Backer Rod Fire and SikaHyflex -50 Facade or Sikaflex AT Connection. This combination unifies efficient installation, best sealing properties and highest fire protection. Choose Sika fire protection solutions for best performance. 8 9
