Apply Seal Coat(s) Surface Preparation Concrete Surface Must be free of laitance, dirt, dust, grease, oil, paint and any other contaminates. Prepare substrate in accordance with SSPC SP-13. Shotblasting is the preferred method of preparation. Power wash with mechanical scarifying are other methods that can be used (Consult Dex-O-Tex Concrete Surface Preparation Spec S-2). Other Surfaces Consult Crossfield Products Corp. Keyway s Due to the high surface tension of the Tek Crete system, keyway s must be cut into the substrate to provide proper long term adhesion to the substrate. Keyway s should be a minimum ¼ X ¼ and cut in at all perimeters, around drains, protrusions, cold joints, pour joints, transitions and terminations. For extreme rolling load environments keyway s should also be cut in at every control joint and a minimum 8 on center across the entire floor surface. Job Site Survey A. Perform moisture testing in accordance with ASTM F1869 or ASTM F2170. Verify and document result in accordance with the specification. If the MVER exceeds 14 lbs or the relative humidity (RH) of the substrate is greater than 90%, apply Dex-O-Tex Vapor Control 100 or 200 as per application specification S-954 or S-970 before proceeding. B. Inspect Substrate to verify proper preparation before applying any materials. C. Measure and record ambient temperature and humidity, surface temperature and the temperature of the material being used. Do not proceed with the application if the conditions are outside the recommended parameters. Inspect materials to be used. Verify material is the proper material and all components and sizes are correct. Inspect all containers and verify a proper factory seal with no signs of damage or leakage. Premix Liquid materials into a smooth homogenous blend before uses. Environmental Conditions All materials are mixed, applied and cured at the job site. Minimum environmental conditions are required to facilitate proper curing and Performance of the Products. Ensure conditions are in accordance with the following requirements. 3 B. A One and a half gallon (1 gal A: ½ gal B) mixture should cover approximately make enough material for primer and cove base matrix for approximately 75 lineal feet with a 5/8-3/4 radius (50 ln. ft. / mixed gallon) over smooth surface. C. Using a small amount of the mixed Cove Base Gel resin, apply a thin coat of Cove Base Gel to the vertical surface as a primer. Allow primer to take an initial set and get tacky. Proceed immediately with mixing cove base matrix. Cove Base Gel Comp A... (2 Parts by Volume) Cove Base Gel Comp B... (1 Part by Volume) B. A one and a half gallon (1 gal A: ½ gal B) mixture should cover approximately make enough material to grout approximately 525 lineal feet of 6 cove base D. Once the Primer has taken an initial tack, apply the a radius with mixed resin and added color flake chips (The fine broken particles of chips at the bottom of the bag or other appropriately sized fillers close in color may be used) to a workable consistence. Immediately after installing the radius, broadcast Color Flake Chips onto the primed wall by throwing chip hard and aggressive onto the vertical surface in a thickness of approximately mils, and terminating as detail under a cap strip, saw cut reglet under ceramic tile or FRP wall surfacing or other termination as deigned. Once the color flake chips are adhered up on the vertical surface, brush additional Cove Base Gel Resin over the surface to insure all flake chips are thoroughly wetted out. Use a well lubricated cove base trowel to form final cove base. After cove base has cured, lightly sand to remove any surface imperfections. If the surface requires grouting, use Cove Base Gel to grout the surface. NOTE: Keep trowels clean and slick using approved solvent to make finish process easier. IF OPTIONAL BASE WAS APPLIED Cove Base Cove Base Grouting Cove Base Gel Mix Ratio: 2A:1B Pot Life: 35 mins Cure Time: 6 hrs Recoat Time: 6-48 hrs Coverage: 350 LF per gal DFT: 8 mils C. Apply the mixed Cove Base Gel resin to the vertical surface in a thin coat with a paint brush, work material into the porosity of the cove base. After approximately minutes, go back and brush the material back up onto the surface of the cove base. After an additional 5-10 minutes, use an 8 double bladed red or white rubber squeegee to pull off any excess resin that has sagged down along the bottom of the base. Allow to cure before proceeding with application of the flooring basecoat. OPTION: If the concrete surface is old and porous or you have a MVER of over 10lbs/1000sf/24hrs, it is recommended to use VL Primer on the surface in order to seal the porosity of the substrate and reduce the out gassing during application of the Tek-Crete SL Basecoat. 4 B. Apply a thin coat of VL Primer using a trowel, squeegee, or roller over the area to be coated. Do not allow primer to puddle or be applied too thick. A 4-gallon kit (1 gal A: 3 gal B) mixture should cover approximately 1400 square feet (350 sq. ft. / mixed gallon) over smooth surface. Allow to take an initial set (VL Primer will start to turn clear) Proceed immediately with application of Tek-Crete SL Basecoat into tacky primer. APPLICATION - Tek-Crete SLCF CAUTION It is important to mix and apply the mixed material quickly. This is a fast curing product and the potlife is short (10-15 minutes). The Tek-Crete SL should be mixed, placed, backrolled, and spike rolled all within this minute working time. Care must also be taken to always work into a wet edge. CAUTION Temperature (surface, materials, ambient) is important when applying Tek-Crete. It is extremely important that all temperatures should be in the 50ºF. - 80ºF. range. Temperatures outside this range will result in mixes which are "stiff", hard to trowel, and set fast. B. Pour the blended A & B Components into the Koal mixer bucket and while blending add the Tek-Crete SL Aggregate (44 lbs.) gradually and mix thoroughly (about 3 minute) until the particles are well wetted out and the matrix has a creamy appearance. Lower temperatures require longer mixing times - up to 5 minutes at 50º F. If Mixing with Drill Motor and Paddle, pour the blended A & B Components into a large mixing vessel and while blending with a large blade add Tek-Crete SL Aggregate (44 lbs.) gradually and mix thoroughly (about 3 minute) until the particles are well wetted out and the matrix has a creamy appearance. Lower temperatures require longer mixing times - up to 5 minutes at 50º F. C. Pour the material in long thin ribbons on the floor. Screed the material into place using a gauge rake or trowel. Place the Tek-Crete SL mixed material at a rate of 30 sq. ft. per mix (1/8" thickness) or 22 sq. ft. (3/16" thickness). Place material so that you can also work back into a wet edge. D. Immediately work out all gauge rake lines and ridges with using a looped roller. Work back and forth slowly to even out material. Be careful not to work air into the Tek-Crete matrix. E. After approximately 3-5 minutes, use a spike roller and roll over the entire floor surface to allow for air release from the Tek-Crete matrix and reduce surface tension to allow for better flowability. STEP ONE - Tek-Crete SL Basecoat Tek-Crete SL Mix Ratio: 1A:0.8B: 1C* Cure Time: 6 hrs Coverage: SF Pot Life: 15 mins Recoat Time: 6-48 hrs DFT: mils *C- One 44 lb bag Tek-Crete SL Aggregate A. Pour the contents of Tek-Crete SL Liquid Component B (.8 gal.) into Component A (1 gal.) and blend thoroughly with a small Jiffy Blade powered by a hand drill for approx. one minute until it is completely homogenous. F. Proceed Immediately to step two Broadcasting Colored Flakes. CAUTION Do not try and work the material once it starts to set. You can see when the material is beginning to set when it starts to turn from a glossy surface to a satin type of appearance. Once the material reaches this state it will no longer flow and cannot be troweled. Allow to cure for approximately 6 hours (at 70ºF.) before proceeding. 5 STEP TWO Broadcasting Colored Flake Chips Color Flake Chip Aggregate OPTION: Color Flake Chip aggregate is available in 25 lbs bags of solid colors or blended colors. Always preblend and box mixes of aggregate before application. Coverage: 0.08 lbs per s.f. per coat 25 lbs. bag 200 s.f. A. Immediately after the Tek-Crete SL Matrix material has been applied and flows out, the colored flake chip aggregate is broadcast into the wet Tek-Crete SL Matrix to the point of rejection of the broadcast aggregate. Broadcasting the flake aggregate may be accomplished by hand or by mechanical Blower Assembly (consult Crossfield Products Corp.). Always loft the aggregate up in the air so that it drops down vertically onto the surface and does not roll. Continue to broadcast the flake aggregate until covered surface looks dry and does not have a wet appearance. B. When broadcasting the flake aggregate, leave a 6 18 (15-45 cm) border of wet Tek-Crete SL Matrix at the edge of continuing work into which aggregate has not broadcast. Apply succeeding application of Tek-Crete SL Matrix up to this wet edge border while it is still wet. Continue to work new material into the wet edge and broadcast the flake aggregate in the same manner. C. Care must be taken to thoroughly cover the Tek- Crete SL Matrix while it is still wet. Make sure the entire area is broadcast to rejection, and all wet spots receive additional colored flake chip aggregate. NOTE: If walking on the Tek-Crete SL Matrix while broadcasting the aggregate, spiked shoes should be used. Never walk on any portion of the floor that has received the broadcast aggregate. D. One bag of blended colored flake chip aggregate will be required to initially cover approximately 200 sq. ft. (13m 2 ). Approximately 10% of the blended aggregate can be retrieved for later re-use. CAUTION : In the case of a small installation which is all to be done at one time, or in only two or three pours of Tek-Crete SL Matrix additional quantities of colored flake chip aggregate (approximately four times that shown on page 1 of this specification) must be on hand as aggregate cannot be recovered for re-use. STEP THREE Removal and Recovery of Excess Color Flake Chip Aggregate A. After at least a six hour drying period at approximately 73ºF. (21ºC.) the excess or unadhered aggregates are removed. The surface is then lightly scraped and thoroughly vacuumed to remove all loose or excessively protruding particles. B. The swept-up or vacuumed up aggregates can be sieved and the clean portion re-used. Use only a vacuum with a plastic gasket at bottom of vacuum head to prevent metallic discoloration. Sieve the recovered aggregates through a fine screen to remove contamination and clumps of aggregates. CAUTION: Insure that the final surface of the aggregate is kept clean prior to finish applications of Posi-Tred CR Resin and finish sealer. Dirt, dust or stains could be sealed into the surface. Pay particular attention to cleanliness of footwear and knee pads when sealing to floor. STEP FOUR Quik-Glaze Resin Sealer Quik-Glaze Resin Mix Ratio: 2A:1B: Cure Time: 6 hrs Coverage: 160 s.f. Pot Life: 20 min Recoat Time: 6-24 hrs DFT: 10 mils Quik-Glaze Comp A (2 Parts by Volume) Quik-Glaze Comp B (1 Part by Volume) Dex-O-Tex Application Specification Page 5 of 6 Tek-Crete SLCF

6 B. Apply the blended Quik-Glaze Resin materials to the cove base and floor surface. Apply a thin coat to the cove base and spread evenly and fairly liberally over the entire surface using a flat bladed squeegee or 3/8 nap roller and backroll. This material will follow out in approximately 3 to 5 minutes, filling any minor voids or depressions. The Quik-Glaze Resin must be uniform, wet and free of ridges. A One and a half gallon (1 gal A: ½ galb) mixture should cover approximately 240 square feet (160 sq. ft. / mixed gallon). C. The cove base and along the radius and floor transition will start to sag. When this start to occur, use a 8 double blade squeegee with red blades, and pull the excess material off the cove, radius out onto the floor. Then apply the seal coat over the entire floor surface. STEP FIVE Quik-Glaze Resin Sealer A. Light spot sand and detail the surface before proceeding. Apply the second coat of Quik-Glaze Resin as described in step five above, A One and a half gallon (1 gal A: ½ galb) mixture should cover approximately 240 square feet (160 sq. ft. / mixed gallon). ALTERNATE: Optional sealers may be applied for better abrasion resistance, heat resistance, satin or matte finishes. Consult each individual products application specification for application instruction. OPTION If a surface is desired which is smoother and more "filled" than the typical Tek-Crete SLCF surface, additional seal coats may be applied. Cautions for Safe Handling of Epoxy, Polyurethane or Polyurea Materials 1. Read and observe precautionary statements on product labels. 2. Keep containers tightly closed. 3. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before re-use. 4. Use of safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves is recommended. Wear only full-length trousers and long-sleeve shirts. Apply protective creams to exposed skin areas. 5. In general, prolonged contact of epoxies, polyurethanes or polyureas with skin may cause irritation. Contact with curing agents or polyurea resins may cause skin burns. Products may cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Avoid all contact with eyes. 6. In case of contact with skin, immediately remove the material with soap and water. Upon completion of work at lunchtime or end of day, carefully check all skin surfaces for any traces of resinous materials. Wash with soap and water. If wash facilities are not located nearby, establish water-washing station at work site. Do not use solvents to remove epoxy, polyurethane or polyurea materials from skin, as solvents will drive material deeper into skin. If redness or a skin rash develops, consult a physician. 7. Mix and apply materials only in conditions of good ventilation. Avoid breathing vapors. Appropriate respiratory protection is required when exposure to airborne contaminants may exceed acceptable limits. Respirators should be selected and used in accordance with OSHA, subpart I (29 CFR ). Cautions 1. Read and follow Crossfield Products Corp. Specification S Obtain, read and observe MSDS for these materials. 3. The components are accurately measured for proper proportion. 4. For proper trowel ability it is very desirable that the Dex-O-Tex Tek-Crete materials when mixed be at a temperature of 60ºF. - 80ºF. (15ºC - 26ºC). This may require several days "conditioning" of materials at such temperature prior to mixing. DEX-O-TEX PRODUCT LINE Crossfield Products Corp. West Coast Office East Coast Office 3000 E.
