2 VISIONWALL in China. EnVision (Shanghai) Co Ltd manufactures VISIONWALL in China. VISIONWALL is a high efficiency, transparent, insulated wall system. It integrates one or two optically clear films, the thickness of a human hair, that give unique thermal and soundproofing qualities, 100% better than double glazing. We invite you to read this document to find out more about the VISIONWALL and how it can lower the capital cost of building, lower heating and cooling costs in summer and winter, is socially responsible and makes life more comfortable. For those who want some proof that physicists are human, the proof is in the idiocy of all the different units which they use for measuring energy. Richard Feynman, American physicist, Nobel prizewinner 2

3 Saving energy and capital costs. The Engineering Laboratory Wing on the campus of the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada uses the VISIONWALL * glazing system and is the result of a commitment by the owner and the architects to design a cost effective, sustainable, energy-efficient building. The building contains no air conditioning and requires virtually no heating to keep its occupants warm. Because of VISIONWALL s high insulation value, the building was able to forego its perimeter heating system. Instead, heating coils in the ventilation system provide a small amount of supplemental heat when necessary. These reductions, together with the elimination of air conditioning requirements, offset the higher initial cost of high performance windows. light shelves at the University of Victoria. The windows provide both low shading coefficients to reduce heat gain into the building and high visible light transmission to maximize daylighting for increased occupant comfort and productivity. Visionwall s Engineering Department custom designed light shelves for the project (see detail). These light shelves serve as both a shading device to further decrease cooling load requirements and as a means to bounce natural light deep into the building to reduce the need for artificial light. The Engineering Laboratory Wing was completed in 1996 for C$19.3 million, within the C$20.5 million budget. With all of its energy saving features, the building saves 723,000 kilowatt hours each year. The effect is a sustainable building which contributes to the environment. and capital costs using VISIONWALL are less High Performance Buildings Report by the US Department of Energy on the offices for the Department of Environmental Protection Visionwall saved money for the Department of Energy Environmental Protection offices in Cambria, Pennsylvania by eliminating perimeter heating zones, downsizing the heat pumps, and gaining extra floor space due to the smaller equipment and ducts. For the same energy efficiency you can achieve five times more glass with VISIONWALL 4-Element than with standard double glazing, and 65% more with VISIONWALL 3-Element (ASHRAE Standard 90.1) standard double glazing VISIONWALL 4-Element one or two optically clear film VISIONWALL is a very high performance glazing system, manufactured in 3-Element and 4- Element configurations which have the benefits of triple and quadruple glazing without the disadvantages of appearance, cost and weight. VISIONWALL is a patented system, developed in Switzerland, that incorporates one or two sheets of optically clear film, the thickness of a human hair, bi-axially stretched between two panes of glass, one film for 3-Element (3-E) and two film for 4-Element (4-E). The film combined with precision frame design creates chambers of equalised air pressure that gives the glazing system its unique thermal qualities. 5

6 VISIONWALL attributes Rain-screen principles Pressure equalized rain screen principles can be used in the design of the building s exterior envelope. All VISIONWALL windows are manufactured utilizing these concepts to eliminate air and water penetration, and are therefore totally compatible with open-joint panel systems used on exteriors. prevents UV-light damage The optically clear film integral to the VISIONWALL glazing system blocks 100% harmful UV-light and prevents damage to furniture, decoration and to valuable paintings as shown in the above photograph. Water escape Shatterproof to hazard level 2 and eliminates perimeter heating. The comparison is by Window 4.1 simulation using NFRC/ASHRAE environmental conditions data, and were based on Cardinal Low-E 2 clear glass. The K (U-value) figure is calculated W/m 2 K and is the overall heat transfer coefficient for the complete glazing system (glazing unit + frame). All VISIONWALL systems are designed with Insulbar thermal breaks. Exterior and interior frame members are isolated; fasteners do not bridge the thermal barrier. Heat flow through the frame is reduced to the level where the frame thermal performance is very close to the center of glass performance. 8 double glazing can make you hot, cold and wet - when you least want it. VISIONWALL 3-Element The spaces between the glass and optical clear film on VISIONWALL are 20mm each and therefore do not create convection which gives U-value to the air of 1.14 Double glazing The space between the glass of a double wall far exceeds 20 mm and therefore creates convection which reduces the U-value of the air to VISIONWALL air spaces maintain equalised pressure with outside air all year-round. 10 What does VISIONWALL COST? A building using VISIONWALL costs less than a building using double glazing, when the high energy performance of VISIONWALL is reflected in the design of the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning plant. This can be seen from the financial studies undertaken on numerous projects including those illustrated. Using VISIONWALL in China will save building costs and energy costs. Using DOE 2.1 simulation, an October 2004 analysis of a 112,000 sq m building in Shanghai, showed a similar result to St Louis international airport and Nortel Carling Campus. In addition over a five year period the use of VISIONWALL high performance windows will use 18,450,910 kwh less of electric power. This will save an extra 16,605,819 CNY at 2008 prices. Over the five years the building will emit 12,546,815 kg less of CO 2, 125,466 kg less of SO 2 and 42,437 kg less of NOx. This will help save the environment. kw Double Glazing VISIONWALL 112,000 sq m Shanghai Building Std Double Glaze VISIONWALL Curtain wall 5,974,310 8,258,605 Heating system 4,480,400 3,763,536 Cooling & Ventilation 10,203,750 8,616,750 Electrical System 2,117,800 1,795,600 Total cost US$ 22,776,260 US$ 22,434,491 A copy of this report is available on request.
