7 5 NEN 2062 Introduction This standard is a revision of NEN 1062-VI "Manual arc welding. Code of practice for the design and analysis of welded joints", dating from September 1957, except for the clauses relating to dynamic loading, for which the revised text will be issued in a separate Standard. New developments in welding technology and the results of research affecting the design of welded joints made a revision of the design calculation principles desirable. For this purpose substantial advantage was derived from the work of Committee XV of the Netherlands Institute for Welding Technology (NIL) and of the international research co-ordinated by the International Institute of Welding (IIW). Besides a modified procedure for the single weld, involving the introduction of a material coefficient for determining the comparison stress, design calculation procedures for the double weld and for the composite welded joint are introduced. Finally, the design rules are considered in greater detail for a number of commonly encountered welded joints. The design method embodied in this Standard results in reliable welded joints if the quality of execution of the welds conforms to the "Code of practice for requirements applicable to the shape and homogeneity of welds in unalloyed and low-alloy steel with a specified yield point о up to and including 355 N/mm subject to predominantly static loading", being prepared by a Working Group within Standard Committee This Standard has been produced by a Working Group within Standard Committee "Weld design calculations".
