1 Assembly of OKAPANE in U-Profiled Glass Status: 1303 Please observe the following information aimed at protecting you and your customers from damage and so as not to endanger any claims for compensation and warranty claims. The following information is designed to draw your attention to specific details which are often overlooked, but are important, and therefore must be considered. As such recommendations are of a general nature, and not aimed at each specific case, they do not lay claim to completeness. All valid laws, directives, standards and recognised technological regulations must also be observed. Please refer to the separate enclosures for product-specific information. Please contact us if there is any doubt. Non-compliance with this information will endanger any claims for compensation or warranty claims. OKAPANE light-diffusing insulating panels in double-shelled U-profiled glass (LINIT or Profilit) make use of daylight and reduce heat loss considerably. OKAPANE consists of a honeycombed arrangement of fine, acrylic (PMMA) tubes clear as glass which are connected by a glass fiber tissue on both sides to form a panel. The materials are non-fading and dimensionally stable by nature. For technical information on the u-value and light transmittance of the various types please refer to our Infotext "OKAPANE Light- Diffusing Insulating Panels". Note: In Germany, the use of a gaskit profile is mandatory for sports halls and all other buildings with glass heights of > 2700 mm. KH_E_Montage Okapane_ (6)

We recommend pre-assembly in a workshop or in clean, dry rooms on the building site to minimize the risk of soiling the OKAPANE. The OKAPANE material is delivered in additional protective coardboard packaging. It must be stored in a dry place and protected against soiling during assembly. We recommend the following method of assembly which may need to be adapted to the situation on the building site. OKAPANE can be mounted on either the inner or outer rail of the cavity. This has no influence on the u- value of the thermal insulation. Given the physics of construction however, we recommend mounting on the inner side of the outer profile glass section. Because the system's construction is hermetically open, deviations in climate which result in changes in temperature or air pressure cause air currents. When the OKAPANE insulation is mounted towards the interior of a room, the exterior air joint is more exposed to the changing weather conditions. This can lead to an increase in the stack effect which results in more moisture and, under unfavorable conditions, dust being transported into the glazing. The direct insulation of the exterior cold shell with OKAPANE inlay also results in a shift of the dew point to the interior. This keeps any condensation on the inner side of the outer section at a much lower level than would be the case when mounted the other way around. How to glue the OKAPANE panels in the U-profile glass We recommend pre-assembly in the workshop or in clean, dry rooms on the building site. The daily requirement of OKAPANE should be assembled the day before it is actually needed to ensure thorough hardening of the silicone. The following steps explain how to glue the OKAPANE panels into the u- profile glass. KH_E_Montage Okapane_ (6)

3 1. OKALUX can supply the OKAPANE panel in the exact widths, lengths, and thickness specified. Deductions in width due to the overlap of the profile glass sections as well as in length for the PVC inlay profiles must be taken into consideration. 2. If the OKAPANE panel has to be recut for cylindrical fields, mark one side by running a blade along a ruler, fold, and insert the blade through the fold. 3. Place the cut OKAPANE panel in the corresponding u-profile glass and weigh it down. We recommend gluing the OKAPANE panel with the u-profile in horizontal position (see sketch). 4. Fix the OKAPANE panel to the u-profile glass by applying transparent silicone to all sides to prevent dirt particles or insects from getting between the glass and the OKAPANE. Allow thorough hardening of the silicone. KH_E_Montage Okapane_ (6)

4 Mounting the u-profile glass with the glued OKAPANE panel We recommend installing an approximately 20 mm thick, rot-proof and stable filter mat similar to those used in hoods and air filter systems. This material does not collapse when exposed to moisture. The mat should be installed throughout and fill the lower frame section entirely. 5. Installation of a dust filter in the lower frame of the substructure according to picture. 6. Cut PVC inlay profiles to the corresponding u-profile glass width, then permanently fix the mat with the PVC inlay profiles. KH_E_Montage Okapane_ (6)

Mount first u-profile glass shell. 8. Then insert counter-shell and press against OKAPANE panel. 9. Do not leave rails open. Seal immediately to prevent dust and moisture from entering the glaze! If this is not possible, cover the open joints with a permanently watertight tape which can be removed without residue. Do not remove this tape until directly before sealing takes place. This also applies to the joints in the aluminium construction. 10. Make sure the drainage and ventilation holes are in working order. KH_E_Montage Okapane_ (6)

6 Note: This information does not contradict the installation guidelines of the u-profile manufacturers as the ventilation and drainage is ensured. Please adhere to the installation guidelines of the profile glass manufacturers. To ensure permanent, flawless operation, the working order of the drainage and ventilation holes should be checked regularly. Pre-Sizing in the Factory Having the elements prepared for installation in the factory helps avoid assembly errors, and is an alternative to assembly under difficult building site and weather conditions. The elements are delivered to the building site glued for mounting, and installed and grouted when needed. Please ask us about this possibility before you start. Appearance Slight deviations in the thickness of the capillary panels and the diameter of the capillaries may be visible. Under certain light conditions fine lines may also be visible within the capillary mat.
