3 Sheet 1 of 3 KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SPECIAL PROVISION TO THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, 2015 EDITION Add a new SECTION to DIVISION 800: LINER PIPE 1.0 DESCRIPTION Install the liner pipe for the drainage structures as designated in the Contract Documents. BID ITEM Liner Pipe (*) *Size UNITS Linear Foot 2.0 MATERIALS a. Cementitious Grout. (1) When required, provide an annular space cementitious grout that meets the structural design requirements with a mix design that comprises cement, fly ash, admixtures and water. Provide materials that comply with the applicable requirements. Cement and Fly Ash... DIVISION 2000 Admixtures... DIVISION 1400 Water... DIVISION 2400 (2) When required, provide a pre-grout cementitious low density cellular grout with a maximum 28 day compressive strength of 1600 psi, and an annular space high strength cementitious grout with a minimum 28 day compressive strength of 4000 psi. (3) Limit shrinkage to 1.0 % by volume. (4) All grout must have a mix design that provides the required strength characteristics with sufficient flowability to fully fill all voids without segregation. Submit mix designs to the Engineer for review and approval. Do not place any grout until the Engineer approves the mix designs. Once the Engineer approves the mix design, do not make changes without the Engineer s approval. In lieu of submitting a mix design, the Contractor may request to use a cementitious grout that complies with SECTION 1714 in place of a mix design. Submit the request a minimum of two weeks prior to any grouting operations. If the Engineer does not approve the replacement, the Contractor must submit a mix design as previously stated. b. Liner Pipe. Provide a liner pipe listed in TABLE 1 or approved by the Bureau Chief of Construction and Materials, unless otherwise shown in the Contract Documents. Use only one manufacturer for any single structure or drainage system. 4 Sheet 2 of 3 Prior to installation, provide copies of the manufacturer s material safety and technical data sheets to the Engineer. The technical data must include detailed installation instructions, minimum and maximum allowable pipe diameters, and testing results that are no more than 36 months out of date demonstrating compliance with any applicable ASTM or AASHTO standards. Provide the Engineer with a list showing the product intended for use in each structure or drainage system prior to installation. At the Engineer s discretion, based on the existing conditions of the drainage structure, the Engineer may request that the Contractor use an alternate manufacturer from the list shown in TABLE 1 or approved by the Bureau Chief of Construction and Materials. The Engineer will accept the materials on the basis of manufacturer and product name, and visual inspection of the completed work. 3.0 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS a. General. Provide the Engineer with a copy of the manufacturer s installation procedures. Install the liner pipe according to the manufacturer s installation recommendations. b. Manufacturer s Representative. The manufacturer s representative shall be on site during critical operations, as determined by the Engineer. The manufacturer s representative shall make any connections necessary where multiple pipes join together. The manufacturer s representative shall notify the Engineer if the Contractor is not performing the work according to the manufacturer s recommendations. c. Temporary Erosion and Pollution Control. Provide suitable and adequate flow control where necessary to complete the installation process. This may take the form of upstream weirs, bypass pumping, sandbagging etc. Prior to cleaning, install appropriate upstream and downstream controls that will contain the sediment and debris created by the cleaning process and prevent contamination. See SECTION 901. If necessary, provide a suitable retention basin area to prevent excess grout from entering adjacent watercourses or ditches. d. Cleaning and Inspection. Inspect and prepare the drainage structures in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendations before installing the liner pipe. If necessary, repair or remove any obstructions, protrusions, joint offsets, debris or out-of-roundness that could damage the liner pipe or prohibit passage of the liner pipe during installation. When cleaning the existing drainage structure, dispose of any sediment or debris in an appropriate manner to prevent contamination of adjacent ditches, streams, or wetlands. When inspecting the existing drainage structure, accurately measure the drainage structures to confirm the required size of liner pipe shown in the Contract Documents. Submit a copy of the measurements to the Engineer for review prior to installation of the liner pipe. e. Pre-grouting. For existing drainage structures greater than 36 inches in diameter or width, pre-grout to fill voids adjacent to the existing drainage structure as directed by the Engineer. Pre-grout voids adjacent to the existing pipe for liner pipe installations that do not utilize a grouted annular space. After pre-grouting voids, in the presence of the Engineer, verify the voids are filled by sounding the existing drainage structure at a distance no greater that 4-foot on center. Mark any remaining voids and re-grout prior to installing the liner pipe. Notify the Engineer a minimum of one week prior to the pre-grouting. f. Liner Pipe Installation. Install the liner pipe according to the manufacturer s installation procedures. When installation of the liner pipe requires grouting of the annular space, submit a grouting plan to the Engineer a minimum of two weeks prior to the installation of the liner pipe. Include the type of grout to be utilized, proposed mix design for the grout, and detailed installation procedures as part of the grouting plan. Do not install the liner pipe prior to the approval of the grouting plan by the Engineer. When grouting the annular space, use methods to prevent the floating of the liner pipe. Ensure the liner pipe remains at the grade and elevation as specified in the Contract Documents.

5 Sheet 3 of MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT The Engineer will measure the liner pipe by the linear foot, along the centerline of the pipe. Pre-grouting is subsidiary to the bid item "Liner Pipe". Payment for "Liner Pipe" at the contract unit price will be full compensation for the specified work including, but not limited to, preparing the existing drainage structure and grouting any voids or the annular space when required C&M (SML)
