DanSign is known best for its line of award winning modular sign systems, which were developed in Copenhagen Denmark since A defining element of DanSign s modular sign systems is that the sign faces are unlocked/removable using patented magnetic locking mechanisms. This allows users to interchange sign faces, and efficiently manage signage with security and ease. The flexibility and ease of maintenance of our systems is unique, and DanSign holds a world patent on the locking devices that lock and fixate the signs. ADA-ABA Accessibility Guidelines: U.S. Architectural & Transportation Barriers Compliance Board's "Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities; Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) Accessibility Guidelines." 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. Make submittals in accordance with Section B. Product Data: Manufacturer s complete product data including mounting details, installation and maintenance drawings. C. Samples: Submit one full size sample sign of the type, style and color specified including method of attachment. If approved, the sample may become a part of the job. D. Shop Drawings: Scaled for manufacturer and fabrication of sign types. Identify materials, size, typography, artwork, finishes, mounting and accessory items. E. Warranty: A sample copy of the manufacturer s warranty for the periods stipulated. Each specimen must be a preprinted representative sample of the issuing company s standard warranty for the units specified. 1.4 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS A. Interior Panel Signs: Provide smooth sign panel surfaces constructed to remain flat under installed conditions within a tolerance of plus or minus 1/16 inch measured diagonally from corner to corner, complying with the specified requirements: B. Exterior Panel Signs: Provide smooth sign panel surfaces constructed to remain flat under installed conditions within a tolerance of plus or minus 1/16 inch measured diagonally from corner to corner, complying with the following requirements: C. Changeable Message Inserts: Fabricate signs to allow insertion of changeable messages in the form of changeable panel inserts for use with fixed backer and attached with manufacturer s magnetic keying system. D. Tactile and Braille Sign: Manufacturer's standard process for producing text and symbols complying with ADA-ABA Accessibility Guidelines and with ICC/ANSI A Text shall be accompanied by Grade 2 Braille. Produce precisely formed characters with square-cut edges free from burrs and cut marks; Braille dots with domed or rounded shape. 1. Panel Material: Opaque acrylic sheet. 2. Raised-Copy Thickness: 1/32 inch (0.8 mm). 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer: 1. Company specializing in the manufacture of modular identification, informational, directional signs and directories. 2. Supplier: Obtain all products in this section from a single supplier. B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with applicable provisions in ADA-ABA Accessibility Guidelines and ICC/ANSI A /28/2016

3 C. Installer: Installation shall be performed by installer specialized and experienced in work similar to that required for this project. 1.6 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS A. Conform to applicable building, accessibility, and jurisdictional codes for installation of signage. 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND PROTECTION A. In accordance with Section B. Package to prevent damage or deterioration during shipment, handling, storage and installation. Maintain protective coverings in place and in good repair until removal is necessary. Store products in dry condition inside enclosed facilities. C. Deliver signs only when mounting surfaces are ready for installation work to proceed. D. The Contractor together with the Owner or his designated Representative shall designate a storage area for all components. The area shall be cool, dry, out of direct sunlight, and in accordance with manufacturer s recommendations and relevant regulatory agencies. Materials shall not be stored in quantities that will exceed design loads, damage substrate materials, or hinder installation. 1.8 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS A. Do not install signs until building is enclosed, dust- or moisture-generating activities have terminated, and substrates have been finished as specified. B. Ensure that substrate materials are dry and free of contaminants. Do not commence with the installation unless substrate conditions are suitable. Contractor shall demonstrate that substrate conditions are suitable for the installation of the units. 1.9 COORDINATION & PROTECTION A. Coordinate the work with the installation of adjacent finishes and accessories, as the work of this section proceeds WARRANTY A. In accordance with Section B. Manufacturer s Limited Warranty: Provide a one-year manufacturer s limited warranty under provisions of this section. C. Provide manufacturer s warranty against defect in materials. Warranty shall provide material and labor to repair or replace defective materials at the manufacturer s discretion. Damage caused by physical or chemical abuse or damage from excessive heat will not be warranted. Removal and reinstallation of existing signage is not warranted. PART 2 - PRODUCT 2.1 MANUFACTURER A. 4 A. Plan Sign : A complete modular sign system with magnetic locking of graphics panel. Provides a comprehensive range of sign sizes and types that are mutually compatible and can be combined in a variety of ways, thus providing opportunities for uniform and consistent signage of the entire indoor and outdoor environment. System shall include: 1. 3/16 thick clear anodized aluminum sign face with subtly beveled top and bottom returns. 2. Concealed magnetic locking of graphics panel requiring special magnetic key to release. 3. Extruded aluminum sheet panel backer. 4. Adjustable set screw on panel back to secure graphics panel lens on PaperFlex components. 5. Available with multiple panel modules mounted to common backer, including sliding Occupied/Vacant indicator; B. Curve Sign : A complete modular sign system featuring ABS molded plastic panels with a gently curved profile, with magnetic locking of graphics panel. Provides a comprehensive range of sign sizes and types that are mutually compatible and can be combined in a variety of ways, thus providing opportunities for uniform and consistent signage of the entire indoor and outdoor environment. System shall include: 1. ABS molded plastic sign face with gently curved profile. 2. Concealed magnetic locking of graphics panel requiring special magnetic key to release. 3. Extruded aluminum sheet panel backer. 4. Adjustable set screw on panel back to secure graphics panel lens on PaperFlex components. 5. Available with multiple panel modules mounted to common backer, including sliding Occupied/Vacant indicator; C. Lock Sign : A cost effective modular sign system with magnetic locking of graphics panel. Provides a comprehensive range of sign sizes and types that are mutually compatible and can be combined in a variety of ways, thus providing opportunities for uniform and consistent signage of the entire indoor and outdoor environment. System shall include: 1. Formed Aluminum sign face with beveled top and bottom returns for slide-mounting onto backer plate of molded ABS plastic. 2. Concealed magnetic locking of graphics panel requiring special magnetic key for release, with ridges on key face to ensure proper alignment with sign panel and concealed lock release clip. 3. Adjustable set screw on panel back to secure graphics panel lens on PaperFlex components. D. Guide Sign : A complete modular signage system with concealed magnetic locking system requiring special magnetic key to release. Provides a comprehensive range of sign sizes and types that are mutually compatible and can be combined in a variety of ways, thus providing opportunities for uniform and consistent signage of the entire indoor and outdoor environment. System shall include: 1. Extruded Aluminum sign face with rounded left and right edges. 2. Extruded aluminum sheet panel backer. 3. Concealed magnetic locking of graphics insert requiring special magnetic key to release. 4. Adjustable set screw on panel back to secure graphics panel lens on PaperFlex components. 5. Available with multiple panel modules mounted to common backer, including sliding Occupied/Vacant indicator; E. Signature Series : Custom fabricated acrylic or other minimum 1/4 inch thick material of designer s choice; selected material shall be routed to receive manufacturer s graphic panel locking system. System shall include: 1. Concealed magnetic locking of graphics panel, requiring special magnetic key to release. 2. Extruded aluminum sheet panel backer. 3. Available with multiple panel modules mounted to common backer, including sliding Occupied/Vacant indicator; 2.3 MATERIALS A. Aluminum: /28/2016

5 1. Aluminum Castings: ASTM B 26, of alloy and temper recommended by sign manufacturer for casting process used and for use and finish indicated. 2. Aluminum Sheet and Plate: ASTM B 209, alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer and finisher for type of use and finish indicated, and with at least the strength and durability properties of Alloy 5005-H Aluminum Extrusions: ASTM B 221, alloy and temper recommended by aluminum producer and finisher for type of use and finish indicated, and with at least the strength and durability properties of Alloy 6063-T5. B. Plastics: 1. PVC/Acrylic: Extruded PVC/Acrylic alloy with integral colors and high impact resistance with Class 1A Fire Rating. 2. ABS Molded Plastic: a. D4673 Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) Molding and Extrusion Materials b. Compressive Strength (10% Deflection) 6,750 PSI c. Tensile Strength: 4,300 psi d. Hardness: R110 e. Melting Point: 221 F 105 C 3. Polycarbonate Sheet: Of thickness indicated, manufactured by extrusion process, coated on both surfaces with abrasion-resistant coating: a. Impact Resistance: 16 ft-lbf/in. per ASTM D 256, Method A. b. Tensile Strength: 9000 lbf/sq. in. per ASTM D 638. c. Flexural Modulus of Elasticity: 340,000 lbf/sq. in. per ASTM D 790. d. Heat Deflection: 265 deg F at 264 lbf/sq. in. per ASTM D 648. e. Abrasion Resistance: 1.5 percent maximum haze increase for 100 revolutions of a Taber abraser with a load of 500 g per ASTM D Acrylic Sheet: ASTM D 4802, Category A-1 (cell-cast sheet), Type UVA (UV absorbing). 5. Applied Vinyl: Die-cut characters from vinyl film of nominal thickness of 3 mils (0.076 mm) with pressure-sensitive adhesive backing, suitable for exterior applications. 2.4 GRAPHIC COMPONENTS *****Select one or more of the following requirements in the first 2 paragraphs below for fixed and changeable message units if not included on Drawings. Changeable messages are often provided by Owner. Where manufacturer is providing finished graphics components, responsibility for Owner-provided copy (logo, titles, wording, etc.) messages should be included on the Drawings or in the Specifications.***** A. Component Options: 1. Aluminum, ABS plastic or Polycarbonate panel; DanSign Graphic Panel. 2. Printed paper insert of graphics and lettering for quick updating; DanSign Paperflex Modules. 3. Changeable messages in the form of slide-in inserts, transparent covers with paper inserts, or changeable panel inserts for use in fixed frames; DanSign Text Tracks. 4. Stand alone information or wayfinding panel; DanSign Monolith: 5. Full digital information system built into a monolith, wall sign or suspended sign. B. Graphics Types: 1. Laser Cut Appliqué (for ADA Signage): a. Computer-aided router-cut; acrylic characters, 1/32 inch thickness; b. Braille, Raster method: inch diameter, acrylic or stainless steel Raster beads set into pre-drilled holes resulting in.032 Braille text. 2. Router or water-jet cut dimensional characters: Produced of acrylic or metal, and applied to face of sign panel. Thickness and material type to be specified in drawings. Edge condition of characters to be clean and without burrs or irregularities. 3. Applied Vinyl: Die-cut characters from vinyl film of nominal thickness of 3 mils with pressuresensitive adhesive backing. Apply copy to exposed face of panel sign /28/2016

6 4. Silkscreen: Lacquer based direct-screened copy. All integral colors shall be U.V. stabilized resins utilizing industrial grade pigments. 5. Digital Prints: a. [Specify product based on graphic use, source of copy, type of copy (logo or text); e.g. prints applied to panel face, laminations or printed paper inserts.] 6. Engraved Aluminum: Machine engraved letters, numbers, symbols, and other graphic devices into panel sign on face indicated to produce precisely formed copy, incised to uniform depth. C. Provide lettering and graphics precisely formed, uniformly opaque to comply with relevant ADA regulations and requirements indicated for size, style, spacing, content, position, and colors. D. Text Color[s]: Provide [from manufacturer s standard color chart] or [custom color as selected by designer]. ADA tactile signage shall be manufacturer s standard colors. 2.5 GRAPHICS PANEL LOCKING SYSTEM A. Typical: Magnetic Locking System includes extruded aluminum backer with rivets that engage with sign modules and track for receiving sign panel, and spring lock which is released with magnetic key. B. Special Locking System specific to LockSign: Concealed magnetic locking of graphics panel with molded plastic backer. Requiring special magnetic key for release, with ridges on key face to ensure proper alignment with sign panel and concealed lock release clip. 2.6 ACCESSORIES A. Backer: Fabricate backer and fittings for wall-mounted signs from extruded aluminum or ABS molded plastic (LockSign), to suit panel sign construction and mounting conditions indicated. Supports magnetic locking mechanism functionality and mounting conditions indicated. B. Mounting Brackets: Manufacturer s standard for type of unit specified. C. Anchors and Inserts: Provide nonferrous-metal or hot-dip galvanized anchors and inserts for exterior installations and elsewhere as required for corrosion resistance. Use toothed steel or lead expansion-bolt devices for drilled-in-place anchors. Furnish inserts, as required, to be set into concrete or masonry work. 2.7 FABRICATION A. General: Provide manufacturer's standard signs of configurations indicated. B. Design components allow for expansion and contraction for a minimum material temperature range of 56 degrees C (100 degrees F), without causing buckling, excessive opening of joints or over stressing of adhesives and fasteners. C. Form work to required shapes and sizes, with true curves, lines and angles. Provide necessary hardware for assembly of units. D. Contact surfaces of connected members must be true. Assembled so joints will be tight and practically unnoticeable, without use of filling compound. E. Signs shall have fine, even texture and be flat and sound. Lines and miters sharp, arises unbroken, profiles accurate and ornament true to pattern. Plane surfaces should be smooth, flat and without oil-canning, free of rack and twist. Maximum variation from plane of surface plus or minus.032. Restore texture to filled or cut areas. F. Level or straighten wrought work. Members shall have sharp lines and angels and smooth surfaces. G. Extruded members to be free from extrusion marks. Square turns and corners sharp, curves true /28/2016

7 H. All painted surfaces properly primed. Finish coating of paint to have complete coverage with no light or thin applications allowing substrate or primer to show. Parts are checked for approval against the color match master chip. Finished surface smooth, free of scratches, gouges, drips, bubbles, thickness variations, foreign matter and other imperfections. I. Movable parts, including hardware, are to be cleaned and adjusted to operate as designed without binding or deformation of members. Doors and covers centered in opening of frame. All contact surfaces fit tight and even without forcing or warping components. J. Shop fabricates so far as practical and pre-assemble items to greatest extent possible to minimize field splicing and assembly. Disassemble units only as necessary for shipping and handling limitations. Clearly mark units for re-assembly and coordinated installation. K. Connections: 1. Mill joints to tight, hairline fit. Form joints exposed to weather to exclude water penetration. 2. All fastenings shall be concealed. 3. Exposed ends and edges mill smooth, with corners slightly rounded. 2.8 ALUMINUM FINISHES ****select appropriate options in the following paragraphs**** A. Clear Anodic Finish: Manufacturer's standard Class 1 clear anodic coating, mm or thicker, over a [satin (directionally textured)] [polished (buffed)] [nonspecular as fabricated] mechanical finish, complying with AAMA 611. B. Organic Finish: Apply coatings complying with paint manufacturer's written instructions for cleaning, conversion coating, and painting. 1. Organic Coating: Thermosetting, modified-acrylic enamel primer/topcoat system complying with AAMA 2603 except with a minimum dry film thickness of 1.5 mils (0.04 mm), medium gloss. 2. Acceptable manufacturers: Products only by the following will be allowed: a. Matthews Paints Division of PPG Industries (Pittsburgh, PA); b. Akzo Nobel Coatings Inc (Columbus, OH). 2.9 ACRYLIC SHEET FINISHES ****select appropriate bracketed options in the following paragraph**** A. Colored Coatings for Acrylic Sheet: For copy [and background] colors, provide colored coatings, including inks, dyes, and paints, that are recommended by acrylic manufacturers for optimum adherence to acrylic surface and that are UV and water resistant for [three] [five] years for application intended. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Prior to starting work, carefully inspect installed work of other trades and verify that such work is complete to the point where work of this Section may properly commence. Notify the Architect in writing of conditions detrimental to the proper and timely completion of the work. B. Do not begin installation until all unsatisfactory conditions are resolved. Beginning work constitutes acceptance of site conditions and responsibility for defective installation caused by prior observable conditions. 3.2 PREPARATION A. Coordinate the location of panel signs with other work. Ensure proper blocking or backing has been installed to accommodate fittings and signs which are to be placed after the completion of other work /28/2016

8 3.3 INSTALLATION A. Locate signs and accessories where indicated, using mounting methods of types described and complying with manufacturer's written instructions. B. Install signs level, plumb, and at heights indicated, with sign surfaces free of distortion and other defects in appearance. C. Backer-Plate Plate Mounting: Provide manufacturer s backer plates standard with signage type(s) indicated, with predrilled and countersunk holes, at locations indicated. Attach plate with fasteners and anchors suitable for secure attachment to substrate. Attach panel signs to plate using method specified above. D. Mechanical Fasteners: Use nonremovable mechanical fasteners placed through predrilled holes. Attach signs with fasteners and anchors suitable for secure attachment to substrate as recommended in writing by sign manufacturer. E. Tape and Silicone Mounting: When acceptable to manufacturer, provide double-face tape and silicone adhesive mounting. Mount signs to smooth, nonporous surfaces. Do not use this method for rough surfaces, as signs may not adhere to surface. 3.4 SCHEDULE OF SIGNAGE ****Coordinate the use of a Signage Schedule in the Specifications with the information provided on the Drawings, which should include sign locations and quantities. Drawings should also include dimensional drawings of each sign type, including sign message, dimensions of individual message panels and of overall sign units. Delete applicable portions of this Schedule if similar requirements are clearly indicated on the Drawings.
