West Port production facility EISENMANN - Paint Plant Environmentally friendly paint system is computer controlled and was chosen for the following: High efficiency Immediate recovery of uncontaminated spray Rapid colour change Reliable and maintainable equipment Around 90% paint usage, low waste Total plant and product flexibility Producing a consistent paint finish of the highest quality. CELASCHI - Window Profiling Plant Window and sash components are machined fully on our Celaschi computer controlled CNC window machine centre. Quality is maintained throughout the process due to the high quality build of the machine coupled with components that are fully machined with a quality finish comparable to that of sanding belt units. The constant level of machine performance allows us to achieve an end product, the quality of which is decidedly above the current standards available in todays joinery manufacturing business. 4

MASTERWOOD DOOR CENTRE Masterwood is a world leader in the design and manufacture of highly advanced computer controlled machining centres for use by the woodworking industry. Our model features Masterwoods easy-to-use specialist software with windows compatible programs. It delivers time after time, totally accurate components for panels, doors, and windows. WEST PORT GLASS West Port has invested in the latest state of the art Insulating Double Glazing manufacturing line and produces all glazed units for our timber windows and doors on site, once again ensuring total quality management. Operating to BM Q- Mark 068/08 the facility has a capacity that far exceeds the current demand of the business and is well positioned to satisfy anticipated customer requirements. GIARDINA DOOR PAINT PLANT Our flat bed door paint plant is an up to date fully automated process, which is highly efficient and is capable of producing a constant paint thickness in any paint or stain colour with minimum waste product. Once the doors are painted they remain in a temperature controlled environment until ready for assembling. PROTEC - Glazing Machine Our production line would not be complete without the highly efficient Protec Glazing machine. This allows us to control the way in which we apply our glazing sealant. The machine is capable of applying sealant between glass and timber with the exact amount thus ensuring quality and consistency are maintained throughout. 5

Timber the best choice for the environment Wood plays a major role in combating climate change... Greater use of wood products will stimulate the expansion of Europe s forests and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by substituting for fossil fuel intensive products. European Commission s DG Enterprise 2003 West Port s use of the latest materials and water-based preservatives and treatments rather than oil ensures that timber is now a highly sustainable choice. Timber is uniquely renewable while its thermal insulation properties give the added environmental advantage of significantly improved energy values. 6

Sustainable solutions Long-lasting finishes We make maximum possible use of sustainable hardwoods and softwoods which have the full approval of the Forest Stewardship Scheme (FSC). To further protect the environment, we take the utmost care in the selection of preservatives, paints and stains, using water based options throughout the entire factory. West Port have embraced the excellent advantages of laminated timber, some of which are: knot free recycled small sections of timber added strength West Port use only water-based paints, lacquers and timber treatment which are not only vapour free but also much more environmentally friendly to use and maintain. Our advanced computerised paint processes mirror those of the automotive industry and make extensive use of highperformance Glasurit finishes. Continuous improvements are being achieved with the help of our Partners in Europe. The result is exceptional durability and simplified maintenance often no more than wiping down that creates a striking reduction in maintenance bills. optimum sections for minimum wastage water based adhesives Committed to best practice Efficient manufacturing operations Our highly efficient manufacturing processes incorporate state-ofthe-art technology to ensure all products are created in the most environmentally sound manner. By minimising waste and making such efficient use of precious natural resources we are working to protect the natural environment and enable future generations to maintain and improve their lives. Wherever possible we also make use of recyclable materials to further reduce the environmental impact. West Port is at the leading edge of today s best environmental practice and our whole manufacturing operation is specifically designed to support sustainable development. We also look for every opportunity to contribute to the Government s sustainable development strategy as supported by the Housing Corporation and leading authorities. 7

Energy Efficiency In today s world energy efficiency is a vital concern particularly for housing. West Port products meet all statutory requirements. Consumers, specifiers and legislators are increasingly focused on the energy efficiency of timber windows and doors. To respond to the challenge of raised expectations, West Port can provide you with energy efficiency information which is easily understood and can be used to compare fenestration. Sound Reduction Where noise control is critical, we can offer expertise and advice on achieving the required reduction in decibel levels. Options include special high-performance acoustic laminates, laminated glass, insulating units featuring combinations of these materials as well as use of different thicknesses of glass and different combinations of glazing panels. 8

Saving energy Meeting the latest regulations Our clients recognise that insulation of walls is effectively wasted if heat is being lost through the windows. The use of efficient glazing solutions allied to the heat- retaining properties of wood which matches that of any wall - combine to give West Port products outstanding energysaving values. BM TRADA Certification is a leading multi-sector certification body accredited by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service). Originally established to develop quality assurance schemes in the construction industry. We keep constantly up to date with the latest changes in the building regulations and ensure our products surpass the latest standards in sound reduction, noise pollution and other environmental requirements. Energy Index (kwh/m 2 /year The actual energy consumption for timber windows and/or door sets used in a specific application will depend on the building, the local climate and the indoor temperature. U-values Secured by Design West Port recognise the U value does not fulfil these requirements because they only focus on the heat loss from the window and takes no account of the solar heat gain that windows are responsible for and which can improve the overall energy efficiency of the house. In the past, selecting energy efficient windows has been difficult due to the lack of independent and validated information. West Port has recently completed work with BM Trada (Q-Mark scheme) and was the first in the UK to be awarded full test certification for its highest performance in timber product. (ref. page 11 for more information on Q-Mark scheme) In terms of security, windows and doors are the weakest points in a building and West Port products are designed to provide complete peace of mind. Where required we ensure our systems fully meet the Secured by Design standards. In addition to increasing security and reducing crime, these policebacked standards offer considerable benefits by reducing both maintenance and life costs of the premises. Our products are tested as appropriate to meet all necessary specifications, including both PAS 23 (weather and life cycle) and PAS24 (resistance to opportunistic attack). 9

Comprehensive guarantees West Port window and door systems come with a comprehensive guarantee for paint finishes, glazing and ironmongery. Stringent testing Our range of window and door systems consists of some of the most tried and test European designs conforming to the most stringent British standards. 10

Certificated high performance West Port products meet the high standards of the BM TRADA Q-Mark certification scheme for high performance timber windows. Timber windows are often preferred by designers and end-users but may not be specified because of concerns over the varying quality of products on the market. The Q-Mark certification scheme takes away any such concerns and is based on the highest standards of: Design - assessed through expert appraisal by TRADA, the leading authority on timber in the UK. Performance - proven through rigorous initial and on-going testing by UKAS accredited laboratory Chiltern Dynamics Production - demonstrated by approved factory production control, inspected by specialist auditors Total quality control Continuous development West Port are on the leading edge of timber window development, successfully achieving the high specification with certificate 001.
