2 ThermoWood Cladding & Trim Highest quality 100% natural Chemical free Offering enhanced physical properties and attractive deep brown tones, ThermoWood is an exceptional natural cladding product. Thermally modified timber cladding has grown in popularity over recent years due to its consistent quality and improved properties. Silva have sourced the finest quality ThermoWood available from Lunawood, the global market leader of this innovative wood product. ThermoWood is produced using a chemical-free, natural process. By heat treating only the finest Scandinavian Redwood to enhance the chemical and physical properties of the timber, Lunawood ThermoWood offers an exceptional cladding material with outstanding durability, stability and insulation attributes. Why choose ThermoWood cladding? Natural thermal modification process for enhanced durability and decay resistance Attractive deep brown tones PEFC Certification Meets durability Class 2 requirements 30 year service life endorsed by the Building Research Establishment Readily accepts and retains finish due to removed resin and low moisture content Regularly specified for both commercial and residential projects, ThermoWood is well suited to applications facing harsh weather conditions. The attractive appearance and exceptional dimensional stability also makes ThermoWood an ideal choice for internal use.

3 The ThermoWood trademark is a sign of wood products manufactured via a method developed in Finland. Only the members of the International ThermoWood Association have legal right to use the word ThermoWood with thermally modified timber. The International ThermoWood Association was founded in The aim of the association is to promote the usage of ThermoWood products. Members co-operate in standardisation, quality control and research, in order to enhance the use of the products. Lunawood was a forerunner in the development of thermally modified timber and are founder members of the International ThermoWood Association. Factory pre-finished ThermoWood To maintain the longevity and appearance of ThermoWood, it is recommended to apply a surface treatment for added UV protection such as a penetrating oil, translucent finish or solid colour stain. Thanks to the thermal modification process, ThermoWood accepts and retains finish exceptionally well, as pitch and resin are removed from the wood which can cause a finish to peel or crack. Silva Timber offer a factory pre-finishing service in either a transparent, semitransparent, or solid colour stain, ready for immediate onsite installation. Why choose factory pre-finished cladding? Pre-finished cladding is protected from damage by weather Saves time and labour costs No costly delays due to weather No overspray, dripping, splattering or clean-up problems The site is neat and project looks finished immediately No colour variation, lap marks, shrink lines, streaking or dirt pick-up

4 How is ThermoWood created? Thermal modification of timber is a clean, ecological process which enhances the properties of the wood. The process is completely natural and chemical free, using only high temperatures and steam to transform and control the timber s characteristics. During the thermal modification process, timber is treated with high temperature (+212 o c). Water vapour is used as a protective gas and heat conductor, enabling heating of the wood beyond its auto-ignition temperature. By heating the wood to 212 o c, resistance to decay and dimensional stability are greatly enhanced, creating the Thermo-D properties suitable for exterior and interior cladding materials. Thermal modification can be divided into three phases: 1: Temperature of the wood is raised using heat and steam to prevent cracking, then dried 2: Thermal modification takes place - Moisture content of wood is dropped to close to zero, and then heated to 212 o c. Steam is used to prevent cracking and burning, as well as to influence chemical changes in the wood. 3: The treated wood is cooled down and moisturised to around 5-6%. How to order There are three ways to order ThermoWood from Silva Timber: Standard Cladding Profiles We offer a range of popular cladding profiles off the shelf for immediate delivery. See reverse for details. Sawn Boards ThermoWood can be supplied from stock in sawn boards (25 x 100mm, 25 x 125mm, 25x150mm) for machining or further processing. Other sizes are available to order in thicknesses up to 75mm and widths up to 200mm. Custom Profiles We can machine custom profiles to your specification. This process takes up to 14 days from receipt of order to delivery to your site.

5 Standard Profiles Tongue & Groove Shiplap Microline Channel Rainscreen Trim Technical Information The average tangential swelling and shrinkage due to moisture for Thermo-D class treated wood is 5-6%. Thermo-D class ThermoWood is classified as durable according to the EN113 standard - meeting Class 2 requirements. Installation Tongue & Groove, Shiplap and Microline Channel cladding profiles can be blind nailed. Ventilation should be provided behind the boards (22 25 mm). Please also note that there should be at least 30 cm between the ground and lower edge of the cladding. Fasteners For best results use stainless steel annular ring shank nails. These have thin shanks and blunt points to reduce splitting. Nails should be driven with care into the framing members. Hand nailing is recommended as pneumatic nail guns can cause wood distortion and splitting. When using nails, they should not be closer than 2 cm from the end of the board or use pre-drilled nail holes. when using a conventional hammer, it is advisable to use a nail punch for the last 2 3 mm. Fire Treatment ThermoWood can be treated for enhanced fire retardation like any traditional wood. Specify either DRICON for interior or weather protected situations, NON-COM EXTERIOR for exterior or severe damp situations. Please note this information is intended as a basic guide only.
