1 REBECCA LG BOSTICK, ARCHITECTS, INC ADDENDUM NO. 3 Page 1 of 4 (plus attachments -2 pages) SILVERBROOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RENOVATION Fairfax County Public Schools 9350 Crosspointe Drive, Fairfax Station, VA This addendum is supplementary to the plans and specifications for the Silverbrook Elementary School Renovation, 9350 Crosspointe Drive, Fairfax Station, VA. All Revisions, clarifications, deletions, and additions shall be a part of the contract as if originally shown in the plans and specifications. BID DATE The bid date for this project remains unchanged, Wednesday, January 23, 2019, 3pm EST. GENERAL 1.01 See attached code modification letter which permits the FA & Sprinkler to be shut off in the construction areas. Note two hour fire walls (existing and construction barrier-note #1 A1.7) are shown to separate the construction areas on Sheet A1.7. SPECIFICATIONS 1.02 ADDITION: Section Add paragraph THERMAL INSULATION A. Rigid Nail Board Insulation: Nail Board insulation board shall be rigid glass-fiber reinforced polyisocyanurate foam bonded with 7/16 OSB: Total thickness to equal 3-1/2. Stagger all joints with mechanical fasteners to meet FM 190 specifications. Equal to Johns Manville NailBoard. DRAWINGS 1.03 Sheet A5.1 Elevation B/A5.1 Change to 12 high perimeter CLF to 6 high Sheet S1.1 detail 13/14/S3.1 apply to the area where the footings step down. See attached sketch S1.1. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS 1. Please reference C.27; some of the direction in this report indicates that undercut and replacement of existing fill soils will likely be required on the project, however no specific quantity is provided per S1.1 contractor note. Please confirm that no undercut below design subgrade elevations is to be figured at this time. If undercut is to be figured, please clearly indicate location and extent, or quantity of undercut at building/paving areas so that a definitive/consistent scope can be figured by all bidders. Per 1.11 and 3.05 of Earthwork specification the contractor would not owe any undercut and replacement below

2 Addendum #3 Silverbrook Elementary School Renovation Page 2 design subgrade elevations as part of his bid, nor can he, as the scope of work is indeterminate at this time. Soil is unclassified. Soil is unclassified to subgrade. Any undercut must be expressly stated/quantified, otherwise it is not part of the scope as it is additional excavation below design subgrade. We have run into this on multiple FCPS projects, they always clarify a quantity or area to be figured, establish an allowance, or state not to include undercut at this time. Based on this answer we will not be figuring any undercut, though I would ask that the response be stated more clearly and also published in an addendum. Per the Owner all earthwork is unclassified. Q2.Temporary openings 401 & 402 are calling for hardware set 116, but set 116 is for a paired opening and assigned to opening 196. Please Advise. Those are the temporary doors and the hardware appears correct with the exception of one door instead of two per opening. No removable mullion. Q3. Demolition Legend Note 4 on C.5 states that GC will provide mulching at playground areas as part of the contract, and proposed plan C.6 also calls for timber edging; Allowances section states that the playground allowance is to include provision of ground cover and edging. Is the timber edging and mulching to be figured independent of the allowance or will this work be billed against the allowance during construction? See addendum #2 See the detail added 8/A2.0 on addendum #2. It provides a detail for timbers and shows the underdrainage - 2' inside of the timbers. Site plan shows timber locations and size. This is contract work not allowance work. Q4. Demolition Legend Note 4 on C.5 states that GC will provide underdrains at playground areas as part of the contract; underdrains are not shown on plans under playground areas in any capacity. Please advise. A question is answered in Addendum 2 in regards to this, but the answered provided does not answer my question. I am asking for a layout for playground underdrainage as this is not something the GC should be responsible for designing. See answer above- it is designed to be 2' inside the timbers- all 4 sides. Q5. Please provide dumpster enclosure gate details / elevation. See 4/A2.0. Standard gate details by chain link manf. and per Section Q6. Please provide specification for stone veneer and cap on garden wall per A2.0 details. See addendum #1. Q7. 3/A2.0 seems to show another type of stone base below the 4 stone dust base; please clarify what is intended here. 4" gravel

3 Addendum #3 Silverbrook Elementary School Renovation Page 3 Q8. Dampproofing is called for at Garden Wall per 2/A2.0 detail; please provide specification. Section Q9. Direction for trench drain installation is in conflict when C.24 trench drain notes regarding concrete encasement of trench drain with detail provided on 2/A2.0. Please coordinate desired trench drain section/profile with 2/A2.0 detail so that the nature of the installation can be ascertained. The trench drain does not need to be encased concrete provided it is anchored and unable to be kicked around by student use. Q10. Note 3 of Stair Demolition Notes on A1.5 refers contractor to 6/A2.4 for rail repair detail; this detail is for a new rail. Please clarify what the intent is in regards to the existing guardrails. Note #3 refers to removal / repair of guard rails. To clarify- all railings/ guard rails to be removed and new installed per details. Q11. Please clarify Note 2 at Kitchen Equipment Schedule on A2.7. Does this note mean that all of the existing food service equipment is to be salvaged and reused? Is any new equipment to be provided? All new equipment. Note #2 can be disregarded. It did apply to two items and was listed alongside the item but at the last minute, equipment was changed to all new. Q12. Please advise as to who is responsible to furnish the student painted tiles? Owner Q13. Please provide specification for nailboard w/ rigid insulation behind wall panels as shown on various A4.3 details Rigid Nail board insulation included in this addendum. Q14. B/A5.1 calls for 12 high perimeter fence; A2.0 calls for 6 high. Please advise as to which is correct. 6' high is the correct size. Q15. Please reference 8/A6.1 and 6/A6.2; will an air barrier with associated transition membranes definitely be required at these types of infill conditions? This work adds a significant amount of mobilizations for the air barrier contractor due to the selective area of the install on an existing wall that does not have a continuous air barrier to begin with, so we just want to confirm what is intended at this condition. In terms of wall infill, how big does the size of the infill have to be for air barrier to be required? For instance, would air barrier be required at an infill of a louver opening above Door 144 per E/A5.2? Since the installing contractor for the air barrier technically has to participate in the air barrier quality assurance program per the specification, having an air barrier contractor on site to apply air barrier at all these miscellaneous areas as they are patched is an exorbitant and unnecessary cost, especially since there is no existing air barrier that we are trying to maintain the continuity of. Please

4 Addendum #3 Silverbrook Elementary School Renovation Page 4 review these details and confirm that this is what the owner requires, and if so, what the limitations are on the size infills that require an air barrier. This has been confirmed with the Owner during drawing preparation. Yes, it is desired to maximum extent possible. I would expect at all door and window infills. If it is a brick vent infill (small opening)- requirement can be deleted. Q16. Hatched Areas per Note 10 on S1.1 are incomplete when compared to slab areas shown for demolition per Note 13 on A1.3-A1.6 demolition drawings. Please coordinate, as only a limited amount of areas designated for demolition are actually shown to be patched on S drawings. Demo drawings show demolition. Structural may show it but use demo drawings for complete scope of work. Q17. Reference 6/M4.2; please advise as to where this detail is applicable to the project. It is included in case phasing is changed at the request of the Owner or contractor. There are no current planned use. Q18. Structural sheet S1.1 footings for addition section cuts 13 & 14/S3.1, S1.3 (footing schedule= F26.12 shown as 30" wide), S3.1(section elevations 13 & 14 indicate same footings to be 5'-6" wide. Please advise. F26.12 applies at sections 2&3/S3.0 and after footing steps down the additional 2 ft, sections 13&14/S3.1 apply with the wider footing. See attached sketch. Q19. Due to the elevator being inaccessible during phase 2 of construction, please confirm that the contractor is not providing temporary ADA access during this phase. The new elevator will be installed in a new location in phase 1. Once operational, the existing elevator will be removed during phase 2. No temporary ADA access required. Q20. Please provide specification for the cold formed metal roof trusses and light gage metal decking work shown at canopy and high roof locations on the structural drawings. The trusses are to be designed and detailed by the fabricator. All the loading is provided on the drawings and nothing else specifically is needed. Roof decking is Spec Section Q21. Interior wall mount and post mount handrail brackets are detailed as a Wagner Cast Ductile Iron (5&6/A2.4) that will mount to a 2 square steel post, please confirm this is the preferred bracket. If it is please provide a detail to mount to the 2 post. Those are the brackets I expect at the walls but previous projects have had the stair/railing manf recommend the post bracket.
