Armadilla A10 Site Preperation Instructions for marking out position of padstones (all measurements are in mm) The padstones are standard 100mm (4 ) concrete blocks often called breeze blocks Material & tools required for padstone placement Four 100mm concrete building blocks (100mm X 220mm X 440mm) Two 20K or 25K bags of ballast and two 20K or 25K bags of concrete sand. Spade Measuring tape (5M length) Spirit level Length of straight timber eg 50mm X 25mm X 2.4m minimum Your Armadilla will be placed on a sturdy weed suppressant membrane which will come at the time of delivery and laid out before installation. Once the Armadilla is in position you will need to cover the exposed membrane with a gravel or bark of your choice. The distance out from the Armadilla to cover is about 500mm so about a dozen bags of gravel or half a dozen of bark is usually sufficient. This is put on after the Armadilla is in place. 1. The location and orientation of the Armadilla will normally have been arranged on a site survey. If not, please read notes at end. The site should be reasonably level and free of vegetation (other than short grass)

2. The centre point of the flat surface on each block should be chalked or scratched on the face of the blocks. 3. Establish position of front door and orientation of the front gable. The length of timber is ideal for this. Position two of the blocks with short ends butted up to the timber and spaced at 1750mm centre to centre. 4. Place the two rear blocks as shown and measure from the centre of a front block to the centre of the rear one (on the same side). This distance is 2880mm centre to centre. 5. Now measure from the other front block to the opposing rear block. This measurement should be 2880mm. You may need to move the rear block sideways to achieve this measurement. Don t adjust the front blocks. Double check that the measurements are accurate, particularly recheck the front to rear distance. 6. Space the final rear block at 1750mm from its neighbour. 7. Check the measurement from the rear block to the front block on that side is 2880mm

8. Double check the position measuring from rear block to opposing front block which should be 2880mm. Double check all measurements on all blocks. 9. Using spade or trowel mark a cut in the ground round each block approximately 50mm out. 10. Place block to the side. Dig hole approximately 150 to 200mm deep (deeper if ground conditions are poor) You need to have reached firm ground or subsoil. 11. Pour in some ballast and consolidate (by tramping) leaving finished level about 125m. m deep. Now pour sand over the ballast to a depth of 50mm leaving a finished level about 75mm deep. 12. Place block in centre of hole and make sure it is sitting level using spirit level. 13. Tap firm (stamping on it is fine). Repeat steps 10 to 14 on all blocks.

14. Now check that they are all at the same level Use a brick (or similar) as a means of bridging on the long distance. 16.If the front block is at the same level as the brick then, without moving the brick, check the level between the brick and the rear block. Go round all the blocks (repeatedly if necessary) to establish that they are all at the same height. If one is too high you can take out some sand and rebed the block and similarly if one is too low lift the block out and add more sand) A tolerance of about 25mm is acceptable. 17. Pack ballast / sand round the block and consolidate to firm it up. The padstones are then ready for placing your Armadilla on. 19. When the Armadilla is delivered we will bring a sturdy weed suppressant membrane which is placed over the site and once the Armadilla is in position you can cover the exposed area with the gravel or bark of your choice.

Notes It is good practice when checking a level with a spirit level to reverse the spirit level (i.e. rotate it through 180 degrees to establish that is true when measuring between two points). This also worth doing with your length of timber. To work out by how much your level is out, clasp the spirit level firmly to the timber and slowly raise the timber at the appropriate (low) end until the bubble is level. This will give an indication of how much to raise the low end (or reduce the high end). The electrical and data supply cables installed by your electrician should be buried up to the centre of the gable on which it is to be connected (usually the rear gable, but please get in touch if you are not sure). You should advise your electrician to leave a tail of about 1.5 metres to allow for connection to the Armadilla. Normally, a site survey will have been carried out in advance by a representative of Armadilla to confirm access, installation ability and site suitability. However, there may be circumstances where a customer is satisfied that access and installation is straightforward and a survey has not been carried out. In these situations, if there are additional costs incurred through difficulty of access or installation, the customer will be liable for these costs unless prior agreement has been reached with Please do not hesitate to call our technical team on for advice on any of the above.
