GYPSUM INNOVATION: Weather Defence Board - Gypsum sheathing in light frame construction

WHAT CAN THE RIGHT SHEATHING BOARD DO? Improve the acoustic performance of a wall, by adding mass and a sealed barrier layer. Improve the structural performance of a frame, e.g. racking, by transferring loads and restraining frames. Improve the overall fire resistance of a wall, by giving a fire resistant layer. (A1 Fire Resistant Non Combustible) Eliminate need for breather membranes, by being consistently water resistant and vapour permeable. Gives a full or partial weathertight layer allowing internal works to begin Provide fixture support, by providing a rigid backing to insulation. Provides an primary air seal, when reliably sealed.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW - WHAT IS WEATHER DEFENCE? Weather Defence is an external sheathing board which has transformed building envelope construction and performance. Weather Defence is made from gypsum and has a patented hydrophobic core and water resistant liner is a replacement for cement particle boards. Used with frame-based construction Cuts installation time Recyclable CE Marked EN Safe to work with Manufactured in Europe

DESIGN BENEFITS WARRANTIES 10 year warranty when built with Siniat components and materials Two BBA certificates; one for the product and one for the system Winner of British Construction Industry award for Innovation 2014

DESIGN BENEFITS - WASTE & RECYCLING Gypsum core in Weather Defence is fully recyclable, product and site off-cuts are accepted by the GTEC Wasteline Direct Service for recycling into new plasterboard products Gypsum powder from the recycled board fully meets the quality criteria of BSI PAS109 Weather Defence is supplied with minimal packaging and the pallets are composed of recyclable material with PEFC certification

INSTALLATION BENEFITS Weighs 30% less than equivalent CPB Improved installer productivity Safer to install CPB require a circular saw with a sharp blade No need for dust extraction and cutting areas Reduces noise control Quicker to install No need for breather membrane Easier to cut and work No pre-drilling required Fast & smooth fixing through the board Specially designed wet area screws go in first time and help minimise waste

INSTALLATION BENEFITS - JOINTING AND SEALING Excellent dimensional stability (<0.2mm/m) allows joints with minimal gaps Boards are simply butted together and sealed with external silicone sealant Silicone sealant provides a more robust and reliable seal than foil tapes Sealed with fire rated sealant for resistance of 30 mins and above For Deflection or movement control joints - various EPDM Manufacturers have been approved (Tremco Illbruck / Arbo or IsoChemie) 9

INSTALLATION BENEFITS BOARD / SYSTEM COMPONENTS ❶Weather Defence board SE 12.5x1200x2400mm ❷GTEC Wet Area screws Self tapping Self drilling High thread ❸GTEC Silicone sealant Fire Rated, pink Non fire rated, white RX/B Gauge up to 0.70mm W/Y Gauge up to 1.2mm Timber SELF TAPPING SELF DRILLING HIGH THREAD 32 & 42mm 25 & 38mm 42mm

CUTTING AND FIXING Gypsum sheathing boards can be cut without power tools score and snap is all that is required Easier to shape boards at complex details and can be adjusted on the frame... No requirement for separate cutting areas, extraction or wetting to control dust Screw fasteners at 300mm centres but may require narrower centres, horizontally and/or vertically to resist higher wind loadings - wind loading resistance required must be calculated by engineer 11
