4 P120 X-Plug 1 Elite Products LLC. The P120 X-Plug is a patent pending mechanical plug specifically designed to SEAL the void formed in a concrete wall by the removal of a taper tie rod. The P120 X-Plug is easily engaged into the tie rod void during ALL climates*. With the P120 X-Plug s mechanical design, tightening of the metal nut causes an expansion of the plug, increasing its diameter inside the taper tie void. This action simultaneously compresses the main body plug onto the bolt to create an unmatchable seal between the plug and the wall of the taper tie void. This advanced sealing design and method, WILL save you time and materials. *** Stainless steel bolt is compression set at 50 lbs. into grommet, to ensure a non-slip or spin during installation, also creating a watertight seal directly from the factory before installation. 5 Installation Step 1 Clear tie void of all loose debris. A taper tie void brush is recommended and available upon request. Setting/Adjusting taper ties For maximum performance and to ensure proper size water stop plugs are ordered, the contractor should pay close attention to tie placement/shifting. Elite Products recommends that before taper ties are placed into the form work, the contractor shall pre set all ties so that the large wing nuts and plates are set to a predetermined distance on the threads to allow the large diameter of the taper to land as close to the concrete wall as possible. This will ensure proper depth and plug placement for increased efficiency. (See Taper Ties) Step 2 Check plug engagement, plug sizes for corresponding taper ties will seat 50-60% of wall thickness from the factory. To achieve a shallow depth placement, simply tighten nut 1-2 turns prior to Step 3 for installation. Step 3 Attach the 7/16 installation extension to handheld drill. Place nut side of plug into socket and slide into void. Plug will stop when seated in tapered void, FULLY TIGHTEN NUT. 7 Man Hours The P120 X-Plug used with a taper tie system has proven to save contractors over half the man hours and materials costs when compared to alternatives (i.e. She Bolts, non mechanical plugs). The X-Plug can be installed 6 to 1 versus non-mechanical plugs and ensures a positive seal unlike the competition. With the taper tie system contractors are able to form structures in a fraction of the time/material compared to a she bolt system that can lead to time consuming and costly leak repair. EXAMPLE: Two storage tanks 80 and 90 dia. both with 40 foot walls were sealed and grouted on the inside of the tank in a total of 6 hours each (1000+ tie holes). The man hours for two craftsmen went from six working days to a day and a half. Plug/Patch The P120 X-Plug has the capability and reliability to seal the taper tie voids without grout on either side of the plug. Unless specified there is no longer a need to use a non- shrink grout, water plug, bentonite rope or dry pack grout in the taper tie voids as an added precaution to avoid leaks, again saving time and materials. A grout bag with a loose mix grout is all that is needed to fill the remainder of the void on either side of the P120 X-Plug. PVC Sleeves/Pass Through Ties The P120 X-Plug can also be used to seal PVC sleeved ties or pass through tie applications. When the pass through tie is removed it is recommended that the PVC sleeve be cleaned out with a brush to remove all large debris. The X-Plug can then be installed to complete the seal of the sleeve. The X-Plug can also be used if the PVC sleeves are removed from the concrete to seal the voids left behind. Call to verify plug sizing when using PVC sleeves. 8 Retro Fitting/Leak Repair For restoration projects or factors such as hairline cracks, cold joints and honeycombs Elite products shows the patent pending multifunctional use of the P120 X-Plug by sealing a leak from the exterior during a leak test. The following images (opposite page) show a project where the tie void had been missed when plugging, allowing for water to escape the tank. 12 P120 X-Plug FAQ S Can you over tighten? NO, the P120 X-Plug is designed with the appropriate thread length on the bolt for maximum expansion at any depth in the tie void. What if the engineer specifies that the plugs be set close to the inside face of the tank? The P120 X-Plug gives you the option to set the plug at a shallower depth in the void by pre-tightening the nut increasing the plug diameter prior to installation to meet specified depths. Will The Bolt Spin? NO, the bolt is compression set into the grommet with 50lbs of pressure to ensure a non-slip or spin during installation, also creating a watertight seal from the factory. Will the plug seize or gall when tightening? NO, the hardware has been coated with Xylan. This product acts as a lubricant and adds corrosion resistance. Will the whole plug spin while inside the tie hole? NO, the plug is specifically designed to engage the sides of the taper tie void creating the friction required to fully tighten nut. What kind of a Diameter will it reach when fully expanded? The P120 X-Plug fully tightened will exceed the large diameter of the taper tie void. Do Hot/Cold climates affect the seal? NO, the P120 X-Plug has been put through cyclical testing that shows insignificant changes for expansion/contraction. Plug Interior/Exterior? YES, BOTH. With the P120 X-Plug you can provide a positive seal from the interior or exterior of the walls, giving contractors the ability to place taper ties in any direction. Do you need expensive grout mixes to fill the taper tie void after sealing? NO, the P120 X-Plug does all the work. The tie voids can be filled with any type of grout mainly for aesthetic reasons, unless specified by an engineer. As the concrete cures and shrinks over time, what will happen to the seal? 13 X-Plug vs. Competition P120 X-Plug The P120 X-Plug is the highest performing most versatile taper tie void plug on the market today. Elite Products P120 X-Plug system takes the guesswork out of the equation to get a true watertight product. There is no longer a need to have multiple plugs sizes for taper tie voids. With the X-Plug you only need ONE plug size specifically designed for your taper tie. The X-Plug is designed to install at 50-60% of the taper, roughly half the thickness of the wall. If a shallow depth placement is specified by an engineer, a contractor now has the versatility to pre-tighten the X-Plug to increase its diameter prior to installation to achieve a called out depth, with the confidence of maintaining a positive seal. The X-Plug can be installed with a cordless handheld screw gun which gives you the advantage to install up to 6 to 1 vs. the competition. When forming structures, the X-Plug gives you the option to install taper ties from the exterior of the structure if necessary, having a compression seal allows the X-Plug to be installed interior/exterior. This can be especially useful when installing taper ties in corner forms, T-walls or any other tight spots that may be difficult to strip due to taper tie directions. The X-Plug has been tested up to 120 PSI with no failures. The X-Plug is the only plug on the market that you can install, back with an inexpensive grout on the interior and begin a leak test immediately. There is no need for extra steps or precautions to avoid leaks like the competition. If any leaking or seepage occurs due to hairline cracks, cold joints or honeycombs, a contractor can now seal voids effectively and efficiently from the exterior during a leak test, again saving time and money, a method that cannot be achieved by the competition. This method eliminates the need to drain structures to perform expensive repairs from the interior or expensive epoxy injection methods from the exterior. The P120 X-Plug is by far the most economical, reliable and failsafe water stop system available for taper tie voids today. The Competition The competition, being non-mechanical and relying on a friction seal vs. compression seal falls short in performance and efficiency. PLUG SIZING: Sizing can be difficult to match taper tie voids as all formwork and concrete wall dimensions vary. A contractor may need multiple plug sizes in order to seal structures leading to poor seals or difficult installation. A variable eliminated by the P120 X-Plug. EXPENSIVE INSTALLATION: With the competition a contractor relies on friction to seal voids, this equates into difficult installation leading to increased man hours. Expensive installation tools are available but without the ability to create a true positive seal. SPECIFIED DEPTH: When a depth is specified the competitions performance is low due to its friction seal. Lacking the ability to create a positive seal like the P120 X-Plug can with its mechanical compression seal. A void may be too small, creating tears and rips along the friction seal area during installation that can lead to leaks and seepage. A void to large the competition may be installed but lack the sealing performance relying on friction vs. compression ADDITIONAL PRECAUTIONS: With the competition not only is the installation time consuming but added precautions to ensure the seal can lead to higher materials and man hours costs. It is not uncommon to find contractors adding water stop material behind the competition after being installed, using expensive grout mixes or applying epoxy paint inside voids to increase reliability. Added steps to an already time consuming process. DIRECTIONAL PLACEMENT: The competition is directional with its friction fit design, allowing it to be used only one way, from the interior. This can hinder a contractor s ability to install taper ties from each side opening the door to increased production. Elite Products LLC. 10

14 Taper Ties vs. She Bolts Taper Ties Taper tie systems provide the most cost effective means of gang forming structures by being 100% reusable and only requiring a one time assembly of the large plate washer and wing nut before they can be installed into formworks. A contractor begins by threading the large wing nut and sliding plate washer on to taper tie. By knowing the wall thickness to be cast and the dimensions of the formwork, the large wing nut will be set to a specific distance on the threads to ensure the maximum amount of the large taper is cast in the wall. The large wing nut should never have to be turned or removed from the tie throughout the remainder of the project unless a wall thickness is changed. The next step is to install the taper ties into the formwork when both wall panels are set. Push the taper ties in so the plate and washer hit the back of the form and then install the small plate and wing nut. After the concrete has been poured and the wall can sufficiently support it own weight, stripping the forms are easy. Remove the small wing nut and plate washer, hit with an 8 lbs. mall, and remove the tie. The small wing nuts and plates can be fastened with wire to the back of the form by each tie hole for easy placement of the next pour. She-Bolts She bolt systems are time consuming and cumbersome and can take up to 50% longer to assemble and increased time to install into the formwork. With many parts to assemble, and the use of sacrificial inner coil rods and water stop washers for each pour, material costs and man hours increase before a contractor makes the very first pour. After the time consuming assembly, she bolts can be installed in two manners, one by inserting fully assembled she bolt into formworks after wall panels are set or inserting a half assembled she bolt with coil rod threaded in from one side then threading the other she bolt tip to coil rod from opposite side. The second practice can be difficult and time consuming aligning threads to secure inner coil rod. Unlike taper tie systems, production is decreased when stripping forms. Stripping she-bolts from the forms requires multiple steps by unthreading the tapered she bolt tips off inner coil rod from each side to remove forms. Having multiple parts to keep track of and without the ability to wire parts off to forms for future use only decreases production efficiency. After an initial pour the formwork tie holes will need to be cleaned of concrete cream to allow the she bolt to be inserted through wall panels again, a step that is eliminated when using a taper tie system. Then the task of reassembling each she bolt for the next pour. She bolts rely solely on a single neoprene washer attached to the inner coil rod cast into structure for water stop purposes. Added steps are taken to ensure a watertight product, the inner coil rod that has been cast in the wall should be cleaned, painted with epoxy and dry packed to seal the void. Even the slightest leak or exposure to liquids and the inner coil rod can corrode and as data shows begin to expand up to 12 times its mass, creating voids for leaks to begin. Having the cast in place coil rod limits the options to repair failures to expensive epoxy injections and waterproof coatings.
