Adoption of the 22 nd Edition CEC Letter was sent to the Minister signed by Chair of SCC expressing concern about late adoption of CEC SCC is pursuing Code adoptions without duplicating the consultation process Automatic adoption was discussed, however, that would still require Gov t. review first All codes must be adopted through regulation Adoption of Table 5E was recommended in conjunction with the 22 nd Edition of the CEC Adopted and enforce date of Oct.1, 2013

2 3. Elect. SCO Qualifications / Continuing Education A gap analysis between Elect. SCO s and Master Electricians indicates that while there are similarities, there are some differences as well There is no attempt to consider reducing the time from 6 years to 3 years, the waiting period to become an Elect. SCO for Group A & B SCC is reviewing any duplication for training between the Elect. SCO, Group A and the Master Electrician program Continuing Education (all disciplines) is being considered (content, hours, points, etc. are in preliminary discussions) 4. Group B Update Training Group B update training is contemplated on being rolled out by the summer of 2014, and will be available via web access training and classroom settings Group B training for SCO s is to be completed by July 1, 2015 Time required to complete the training estimated has not yet been established Course will include self assessment/quiz with answers provided at the end of the course 5. SCC Code of Conduct Policy This matter was revisited to ensure that all members understand their roles and responsibilities regarding this matter and comply accordingly 6. Working Groups within the ETC (AEUC, CECAC, Oil & Gas & Master Electrician Advisory) Each working group is to provide the SCC with an estimate as to the number of meetings required per year so the SCC can budget for those meetings accordingly 8. AEICTC Going forward the AEICTC will be headed up by the SCC, Manager of Stakeholder Relations as this is not a function of the ETC 9. Master Electrician Advisory Group Code of Ethics (similar to that for SCO s) is being developed Master Exam is being reviewed, fees, photo ID s for ME s, centralized locations for exams Exams will typically be offered in Edmonton & Calgary (other locations may be considered) 10. SCC Web Portal Training The SCC is rolling out a new electronic program that all committee members in all disciplines will be using to communicate with each other and share information

3 11. Seven Standata s have been developed/modified/issued Patient Care Areas/Use of medical equipment in residences Rule / Scope Increasingly, health care activities are being moved into residential settings. Contractors should note that where health care equipment is installed in a dwelling unit, there may be special installation requirements for that equipment. Examples include: dialysis machines, electric hospital beds, pneumatic pumps, wound VAC machines, feeding pumps, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, cold nebulizer machines, pulse oximeters, curling pumps, blood pressure monitors/ventilators and other similar type of electrical equipment. Where such equipment is installed in a dwelling unit, the circuit(s) and device(s) supplying the equipment shall comply with the requirements of Section 24. Contractors are also reminded to comply with the manufacturers installation guidelines and requirements. Farm Services Economizers/Used as service equipment Rule / Service Equipement In some jurisdictions in Alberta, single family farms with services up to 200 amp have been permitted to use the utility owned equipment as the consumers service disconnect. This has led to inconsistent application of Code requirements in the province. It is now recognized that the previously permitted installation is not compliant with the Canadian Electrical Code requirement for consumers service. Utility owned equipment such as the commonly used economizer/totalizer for farm services typically does not comply with the definition of service box and therefore, cannot be considered to be acceptable as a consumers service disconnect. UL/ULC Fire Resistant Cable Certifications ULC link, go to Advisories on the AMA electrical advisories.cfm Tamper resistant receptacle requirements in Child Care Facilities Rule (12) requires that all receptacles in a child care facility be of the tamper resistant type. In Alberta we refer to the Child Care Act which stipulates this applies to children 13 years of age or less. Appendix B note. Rules , & ; Conductor Temp. rating & Ampacities This applies to 70C and 90C temperature ratings for conductors in raceways. As the temperature calculations have not been done to align with the 22 nd Edition of the CEC, this no longer applies. Rule (1) Current Supply This applies to the circuit connection to the power supply be at the main service box or where a transformer(s) are installed and power availability be from the panel thereafter. Rule Ampacity of Wires and Cables As this rule has been revised in the CEC, the Standata has been updated to reflect the requirements noted in the rule itself.

4 12. Several Standatas, Pending Rule Length of tap conductors (temperature dissipation requirements) Section 20 Gas Dispensing Island (revision and deletion) Rule (2) Clarifying the number of splices required to meet the requirements of The ETC has given the Chief Electrical Inspector/Technical Administrator permission to publish changes/updates to the Electrical Standatas such as adding Certification Organizations and changing referenced Code rules in Standatas due to revisions in the CEC as they come forth without first being reviewed by the ETC 13. Disaster Recovery Program / Flood Mitigation Measures A multi discipline Standata was issued to address the situation 14. Committee Subject submissions (CECAC, AEUC, Master Electrician, Oil & Gas Code) SCC will review and place on the SCC web site information such as to committee structure, membership forum, availability for submissions, etc. 15. Variances 3 Re issued CEC/AEUC Original variance of June, 2013 has expired been re issued, allowing Corporations that own O/H distribution systems to be built to the AEUC and CSA, O/H & U/G Standards. CEC/Oil Filled Pad Mount Transformers Original variance of August, 2012 has expired and will be re issued, allowing industry to use oil filled pad mount transformers that may not be certified but are built to recognized industry and engineering standards. CEC/Deep Well Submersible Oil Pumps Original variance of May, 2011 has expired and will be re issued allowing the use of uncertified deep well submersible pumps built to recognized engineering standards. 16. Committee Reports AEUC, CECAC, Oil & Gas, Master Electrician (presented at meetings) Note; The Codes produced in Alberta are no longer available through Alberta Learning Resources, they are available at the Queens Printer. Respectfully submitted; Stan Misyk ETC. Chairman
