3 Sound insulation - Legal framework The legal basis for the observance of sound levels pertaining to technical building systems (installation noise) is specified in DIN Accordingly, a minimum sound insulation of 30 db (A) is generally applicable for soundprotected interiors such as living rooms and bedrooms. This value must be adhered to in every case. In addition, lower sound levels can be contractually agreed upon. db (A) The statutory standard maximum value for vulnerable rooms in flats (minimum sound insulation) Civil / Private service contract law (allows additional agreement regarding the increased sound protection) according to DIN Part 10 (E): Single family Multiple family house from 2 flats In living rooms and bedrooms, max 30 db (A) Minimum sound insulation There is no claim Generally accepted engineering standards (ardt) on the structural soundproofing if 30 not contractually agreed upon. 4 Sound protection - Implementation in practice The acoustic outcome of all works in the installation depends on various factors. Below you will find some valuable tips to check at the construction site, which are often ignored or are not met. The fitter often has to deal with inappropriate conditions particularly in terms of the wall quality which he should examine technically and for legal liability. 220 kg/m 2 Wall thickness 17.5 cm 180 kg/m 2 Wall thickness 11.5 cm Metal stud wall only with Certificate of suitability Install only tested and marked fittings! The individual, installed fittings and appliances must be tested and marked in terms of their fittings noise level and associated fittings noise class. For a pressures of more than 5 bars, use a pressure reducer! In order to prevent flow noise, the resting pressure from floor distribution must not be more than 5 bars. Observe dimensioning, Always open shut-off valves in operation! The actual flow must not be higher than the flow based on which the classification is made. Accordingly, the spout devices such as shower heads or jet regulators must not belong to any higher flow group than the fitting itself. Passage fittings must not be used for throttling. Appropriate suitability certificates must be available for all walls whose mass per unit area is less than 220 kg/mm 2. The mass per unit area of a single-leaf wall, which should be mounted on or in the fittings or water installations including waste water, must be at least 220 kg/m 2 according to DIN For lighter solid and dry walls, an acoustic suitability certificate according to DIN 4109 is always required. Fittings of the fittings group II should not be mounted on walls that border rooms requiring protection on the same floor or in the floors above or below. Additionally, note: Installation noise level lowers with high quality pipes. The ground plan, the construction and/or the specified cable routing sometimes necessitate drain pipes with a better sound reduction index than HT pipes. Suitable expansion strips should be used before placing the screed. No sound bridges should arise between installations or installation walls and floating screed.

5 Sanitärtechnik Sound insulation - Test certificates and installation situation on site For Burda MEROBLOCK, the test set-ups are aligned to facilities in surgeries consistently and according to the conditions on the building site. For maximum safety in design and installation. To achieve the required noise protection level, it is important for planners and installers to know the values of the individual components of the sanitary systems. For this purpose they use the acoustic test reports of the manufacturer. Fundamental to the success of their work is that the test set-up for the sound level measurement is as close as possible to the set-up of the later installation. Therefore, they should always ask for the test reports and compare the test set-up with the proposed installation! Result: Lowest noise level in practice Test requirements Riser Down pipe WC block WT block with drinking and waste water pipe Sound level in the vulnerable room when using Burda MEROBLOCK according to test set-up DIN 4109 and Part 10 (E) (SST I) DIN 4109 and Part 10 (E) (SST Il) 26 DIN 4109 and Part 10 (E) (SST Ill) 21 Installation wall m = 180 kg / m2 with front wall installation in brick construction Installation wall m = 180 kg / m2 with front wall installation in brick construction In-wall installation Metal stud wall Background noise level 20 Installation wall m = 220 kg / m2 with front wall installation in brick construction 4 5 Meroblock 27

9 Sanitärtechnik Barrier-free construction according to DIN Movement areas Barrier-free toilet facility Movement and spacing areas according to DIN Movement and spacing areas should be in concordance with rules and standards in barrier-free construction An important reference point for this is the manoeuvring space for wheelchairs; this is the reason why the movement area according to DIN provides 1500 x 1500 mm space for wheelchair users in public areas and in homes. In other flats, this area is determined according to DIN at 1200 x 1200mm. Movement areas for different installations can overlap. Requirement according to DIN WC seat height 48 cm, including seat. In the toilet, a movement area is necessary in front and also to the right and left of the toilet. The toilet flushing must be operable on both sides with the arm or hand, without changing the seating position. For barrier-free, wheelchair-accessible flats, only a lateral movement area to the right or left of the toilet is provided according to DIN Barrier-free wash-stand facility Barrier-free bathtub and shower area Requirement according to DIN Movement area in front of the wash-stand. Right, left or central arrangement possible. Adequate knee space should be provided for wheelchair users in the area of the wash-stand. For this purpose a flat, surface-mounted or a flush-mounted siphon is provided. Requirement according to DIN A movement area 1500 x 1500 mm should be provided in front of bathtub or in the area of the shower. An appropriate spatial planning for retrofitting a shower place with a bathtub is recommended. 8 9 Meroblock
