3 What is Industrial Rope Access? Industrial Rope Access is a proven method of achieving a safe work position at height or in areas of difficult access. It was initially developed from techniques used in caving to answer the need for a simple, safe and adaptable means of access with it s first large scale use being for inspections on the oil and gas platforms of the North Sea. As it s value as a work solution grew, rope access has developed onshore where it is to be seen undertaking all manner of work from Petrochemical inspections, Industrial cleaning and general maintenance to repair, Geotechnical and Inspection work on some of the world s most iconic structures. Total Solutions provide clients with detailed method statements for any operation involving rope access. By identifying potential hazards and through effective risk management IRATA companies can produce a safe system of work. This progressive and proactive stance has led to documented accident rates being low in comparison to other access industries.

4 Services INSPECTION TSDL s provides inspection and Non-destructive Testing (NDT) primarily to the petrochemical, offshore, engineering and construction sectors. We combine quality and safety with experienced management and advanced technical expertise to offer a complete service to industry. Non-destructive Testing is the branch of engineering concerned with all methods of detecting and evaluating flaws in materials. Flaws can affect the serviceability of the material or structure, so NDT is important in guaranteeing safe operation as well as quality control and assessing plant life. The flaws may be cracks or inclusions in welds and castings, or variations in structural properties that can lead to loss of strength or failure in service. The essential feature of NDT is that the test process itself produces no deleterious effects on the material or structure under test. Rope access techniques are the perfect means of access for inspection. To inspect items/structures that are inaccessible by any other solution, or merely provide a much more cost effective means of inspection. INSULATION Total Solutions has a vast amount of experience in working with all commercially available insulation materials. This experience has been gained both on and offshore in petrochemical, oil and gas, nuclear, power, and chemical industries. This experience covers most types of thermal insulation, cryogenic, acoustic, sheet metal fabrication, fire protection cladding, asbestos removal / sampling. All our operatives are fully trained and certified in the handling, installation and removal of all insulation materials. Our operatives are not only skilled in their own trade but are qualified rope access technicians giving total solutions the advantage of fast response with great financial savings over other traditional methods of access to high or difficult locations. Our teams are assembled with particular attention to application and are specialised in industrial storm damage limitation and repairs. NETTING/DECKING SYSTEM TSDL has developed an extremely adaptable Work Platform Deck and Net System for use in a wide range of situations. The decking boards are made from aluminium alloy frame with impregnated marine plywood deck. The decking attaches to catenary wires by means of lockable steel hook system at each end of the deck. The SWL of each 3m x 0.6m board is 300kg, it is placed on catenary wires at 3m centres and locked into position. The system is compliant with LOLER 1998 and work at height regulations The netting mesh size, strand strength and shape may be altered to provide: Walk on WPDN (work, platform, deck & net system) Walk on work net Debris containment net Site protection net Heavy weight debris collection The netting systems can also be combined to provide all 4 types of use. Test Cord strips are attached to net for annual testing to ensure continued strength of net which complies with LOLER. Each net has a unique ID and tag identifying specification. Special treatments can be applied: Preshrink Autoclave at 130C ensures knots and strands do not stretch (work positioning nets) Fireproofing Waterproofing which reduces absorbency and stiffens net for improved performance Net is made from High Tenacity Nylon PA and Knotted to prevent tearing. Nylon PA is UV Stabilised

5 PAINTING & BLASTING TSDL provide the perfect access solution for Painting, Paint Spraying, Shot Blasting, High Pressure Water Blasting, UHP and application of specialised coating systems and Fire-Protection services. Surface preparation, restoration and industrial painting services are available for structural steelwork, bridges, cranes, jetties and other offshore structures, as well as tank farms and petrochemical sites. Where appropriate TSDL has the ability to meet all containment, cleaning, surface preparation and painting requirements. External coatings systems are provided for all kinds of tanks, vessels and pipeline systems. TSDL Offers: Shotblasting Specialist decorative painting Industrial painting Intumescent fire protection UHP CONSULTANCY TSDL offer specialist working at height consultancy and business advice. TSDL Management offer consultation and implementation of working procedures, training, safety legislation etc. Packages that TSDL can offer include: Initial Consultation Development of working procedures Project management Supply of Safety Supervisors Back-up Support Service How we can help A wide variety of tasks can be undertaken by our teams, who have had special training in rope access techniques in addition to their discipline skills. No compromise is made to the quality or qualifications to our personnel on the rope. The result is a very flexible, efficient and cost effective service for workscopes which would traditionally have access costs as a significant proportion of the budget. Our service causes the minimum of disruption and means our multi-disciplined technicians are able to access almost any location by ascending, descending and or traversing a rope. Most large structures from offices blocks to vessel in refinery s can be accessed. Other examples include bridges, dams, chimneys, vent stacks, communication towers, storage tanks, pressure vessels, process plant and the like. 6 Training INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS TRAINING COURSES Courses take candidates through all the training and examination requirements of the internationally recognised IRATA (industrial Rope Access Trade Association) certification scheme. The duration of the course is 5 Days with the 5th Day being assessed by an IRATA approved independent Assessor. IRATA LEVEL 1 Is the entry level qualification to get you started in the industry. You will need to be over the age of 18 and physically fit. You will learn the techniques for accessing extreme locations on a pre-rigged rope access system along with some basic rescue techniques. IRATA LEVEL 2 Candidates will have gained a minimum 1,000 hours of varied experience at level 1 over a minimum of 12 months. You will be refreshed on basic techniques and learn more advanced rigging and rescue systems together with valuable industrial legislation. IRATA LEVEL 3 Candidates will have a further minimum 1,000 hours of varied experience at level 2, again over a minimum of 12 months and be ready to take on complete rope access supervision of rope access work sites. You will become competent in advanced rigging and rescue systems and gain a thorough understanding of current industrial legislation and industrial best practice. All of our courses are run by fully qualified IRATA Level 3 trainers with a maximum 6:1 candidate / Instructor ratio. For a place and further information on our regular run courses please contact us.
