2 Page : 2 / 8 1. SCOPE This specification covers 12.7/22 kv, aluminum conductor, XLPE insulated, copper wire screened, PVC sheathed power cables mainly in accordance with AS Publication unless otherwise specified in this specification. This insulation is recommended for operation at maximum rated conductor temperature MATERIAL AND CONSTRUCTION 2.1 Conductor The conductor shall be circular compacted stranded aluminum of the type specified in AS Conductor screening, insulation, core screening The cable shall be insulated as specified in AS Each conductor will be separately screened, insulated and screened using triple common extrusion that eliminate voids and maintain concentricity Conductor screen All cables shall have an extruded, cross-linked, semi-conductive screen applied on the conductor. A semi-conductive tape may be applied over the conductor. The minimum thickness at any point of the conductor screen shall be not less than 0.3 mm. Rev Insulation The insulation shall be of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). The minimum thickness at any point shall not fall below 90% of the specified value by more than 0.1 mm. ( t min 0.9t n 0.1) and additionally t max t min t max The conductor screen, the insulation and the insulation screen shall be applied simultaneously Insulation screen The screen shall consist of a layer of extruded, cross-linked, semi-conductive compound applied directly over the insulation. A semi-conductive tape may be applied as part of the insulation screen. The minimum thickness at any point of the conductor screen shall be not less than 0.6 mm. The semi-conductive insulation screen is to be hand strippable and shall not require heating for removal.

3 2.3 Metallic screen (Individual screen) Page : 3 / 8 The metallic screen shall comprise plain annealed copper wires generally complying AS All wires shall be of the same nominal diameter. Wires shall not vary from the nominal diameter given in attached table by more than 5%. The wires shall be helically applied with a length of lay not exceeding 10 times the pitch circle diameter of the screen wires over the core. The copper screen wires for three core cable shall be in intimate contact with the screen wires form adjacent cores. A suitable tape shall be applied helically over the metallic screen for single core cable. 2.4 Core identification (for three core) The individual cores shall be identified by the narrow colored strip tapes applied under the metallic screen layer. - Red, White, Blue 2.5 Laying-up In the case of three-core cables, the screened cores shall be laid up together with a right-hand direction of lay, with fillers where necessary, to form a substantially compact and circular crosssection core assembly and a suitable tape shall be applied helically over the cabled core. Rev Non-metallic sheath The core(s) shall be sheathed with a continuous black PVC type V-90 sheath. The thickness at any point shall be not fall below the average thickness by more than 20% of the average thickness plus 0.2 mm. 3. MARKING The following descriptions shall be marked on the PVC sheath throughout the entire length of the cable. In addition, marking bearing ascending numbers at the interval of one meter shall be marked on the oversheath along the length of the cable. (1) Type of cable (2) Manufacturer s name (3) Year of manufacture

4 4. TEST The following test shall be conducted at manufacturer s works. Testing method shall be in accordance with AS Page : 4 / Routine Tests 1) Conductor resistance test 2) A.C withstand voltage test 3) Partial discharge test 4.2 Sample Tests 1) Conductor examination and check of dimensions 2) Projection or irregularities at conductor screen / insulation interface 3) Shrinkage of insulation 4) Determination of size of voids, contaminants and discolored translucents 5) Hot-set for XLPE insulation 6) Strippability of extruded insulation screen 5. PACKING AND MARKING The complete cable shall be wound on reel such as to prevent damage during the transportation. The following description shall be marked on a flange of the reel. 1) Direction of rotation of the reel 2) Type of cable 2) Number of core(s) and size of conductor 3) Length of cable 4) Net weight and gross weight 5) Manufacturer's name 6) Year of manufacture 7) Reel No. (if required) 6. INSTALLATION For safe installation without damaging electrical and physical properties, the following minimum bending radius and permissible maximum pulling tension must be observed: Item Bending radius(mm) Pulling tension(kg) 3CX150SQ 1,323 3,150 3CX185SQ 1,404 3,885 3CX240SQ 1,494 5,040 3CX400SQ 1,692 8,400 1CX400SQ CX120SQ
