54 th Annual Concrete Paving Workshop March 13, 2015

Completed in 1970 North of St. Paul 1961 Maryland Ave to Little Canada Rd 1967 Maryland Ave to downtown St.Paul 1970 Little Canada Rd to 35E/35W Split

Constructed in CRCP 6 Class subgrade treatment

Interstate pavement throughout the project area dates back to between 1961 and year old continuous reinforced concrete pavement in this area was designed with a useful life of 20 years Resurfacing projects in 1992, 1998 and again in 2002 Resurfacing is anticipated in another six years (2009) Pavement in this area is nearing the end of its useful life

135,0000 ADT in Commons Area High number of traffic weaves reduces the effective capacity of I-694 and I-35E Lane drops cause significant congestion and increase the bottleneck effect

from Little Canada Rd to CR E Upgrade the highway condition Provide lane continuity and reduce weaving by an estimated 80% Increase capacity Lessen congestion Improve safety

Add lanes to increase capacity Widen the commons area from six lanes to 12 lanes
