2 A2H # February 2, 2016 Meeting Date: February 9, 2016 OHPC Case #365 COA for Andy Howorth Property Address: 810 Lincoln Avenue A2H PLLC Comments: 1. Alterations to north elevation: a. Enclose existing garage, remove door and replace with three windows to match existing: i. While the proposed changes to this elevation would result in a pleasing composition, they may do so at the detriment of the existing building s historic integrity. Given the building s massing, replacement of the garage door with windows would create a stronger sense of literal symmetry than what was present in the original design. The presence of a garage facing the street evidences the increased importance of the automobile at the time of the home s initial construction; removing this element would erase this part of the building s history. b. Install stone veneer on existing porch and new planter i. The proposed stone veneer would complement the recently modified front porch. While quarry tile was more common to porches on this style of house (and was present on the original porch of this home), its use here might confuse original elements with later additions. Images of the actual stone product should be submitted to determine their impact on the existing building; these new elements should stand out from, but not overwhelm, original details. c. Remove existing steps and relocate to front i. Since the existing porch has already been altered from its original condition, this change would not seriously alter the character of the building and therefore seems like an appropriate modification. 2. Alterations to west elevation: a. The modifications proposed for the west elevation would be nearly impossible to view from the street and would not dramatically alter the character of the existing building. For these reasons they appear to be appropriate changes to this property. Historic Preservation Ordinance references: Sec (1-3) Exhibit A Page 1 of 2
