2 Ecological sustainability with glulam Glulam, with superior strength properties, has been developed alongside traditional timber products. Versowood Glulam is produced from Finnish strength graded sawn spruce and pine by gluing pieces together in layers. As a result of the gluing, the living of wood is reduced considerably, resulting in an ecological construction material that features specific measurement and shape in all directions. Versowood manufactures both standard-sized glulam products and tailored project products. Glulam is especially suitable for sites where long spans are needed in load-bearing structures. Finland is among the world s best tree growth areas. The growing season is extremely short, only 100 days a year. From 60 to 120 years are required to grow a full-size tree from a seedling. The slower a tree grows, the higher is the quality of the resulting timber: the knots are scarce and small; the trunks are straight, symmetrical, hard, tough, dense, and straight-grained. Moreover, Finnish timber is low-resinous and evenpatterned. Timber is also an ecological choice, since it is the only fully renewable construction material and forests are growing more wood than required for the industry s needs. 2 Glulam brochure

3 Why choose glulam? EASY INSTALLATION AND MACHINING Machining can be completed at the factory. Installation is independent of weather or time of year. On-site processing can be performed using conventional hand tools. Glulam can be delivered machined and cut to the required size; at the installation site, no waste is generated and work goes faster. Dry building technique; a glulam framework withstands full load immediately after installation. ECOLOGICAL PRODUCT FROM FINLAND Timber is the only fully renewable construction material. Raw timber is acquired in accordance with PEFC forest certification. Manufacture of timber products consumes less energy as compared to other construction materials. Timber structures can bind carbon dioxide for hundreds of years. Virtually no construction waste is generated, since glulam products are generally tailored to the installation site. 4 Standard glulam products Versowood manufactures various standard-sized glulam products, which can be used as is or further processed if required. The extensive selection of standard solutions includes affordable options, for example, when used as the supporting structures of buildings. Spruce lamellas are usually used as the raw material for glulam, but Versowood also manufactures standard products from pine lamellas. Versowood also provides other standard glulam solutions for the needs of builders, such as floor beams. The glulam lamellas are fixed using glues suitable for outdoor use. A load-bearing column or beam produced from strength graded sawn timber that can also be split. The glulam is produced according to strict standards in a quality-controlled environment. Verso glulam products belong to the standard strength class GL30c, split glulam products comply with strength class GL30cs. 5 VERSO IMPREGNATED GLULAM POSTS Industrially impregnated glulam posts are an excellent choice for weather-resistant external structures. Impregnated wood chosen with consideration of the intended use is a safe solution that will last for decades and can even triple the structure s service life. In addition, the chromium and arsenic-free pressure impregnation substance grants efficient protection against fungi and insects.
