K Rend Brick Rend is a cement based polymer modified two-coat selfcoloured cementitious rendering mortar for external use it is designed to simulate a conventional brickwork effect. K Rend Mineral TC is a cement based polymer modified selfcoloured mineral cementitious rendering mortar available in four standard colours in 2mm and 4mm maximum particle size options. It is suitable for internal and external use when applied in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions on a suitably prepared substrate. 2 This Registered Detail relates to Kilwaughter Minerals Limited s K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC. K Rend Brick Rend is a cement based polymer modified two-coat self-coloured cementitious rendering mortar for external use it is designed to simulate a conventional brickwork effect. K Rend Mineral TC is a cement based polymer modified self-coloured mineral cementitious rendering mortar available in four standard colours in 2mm and 4mm maximum particle size options. It is suitable for internal and external use when applied in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions on a suitably prepared substrate. According to the manufacturer K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC can be used on the following suitably prepared substrates: brickwork, concrete block, high density concrete block, lightweight block (a combination basecoat system is required) natural stone, existing dry dash render, cement particle board and insulation boards. For use of these products on these and other substrates seek technical advice from the manufacturer. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC are declared to conform with BS998 1 : 2010 and are suitable for external use on new or existing buildings due the results of their adhesion and capillary water absorption properties. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC are not suitable for application on horizontal or sloping surfaces. It should not be continued over movement joints, damp proof courses, weep holes or air vents. Adequate flashings should be provided to prevent water penetrating behind the render. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC have a Capillary Water absorption Class W2, to BS EN :2016 and are suitable for use in conditions of severe exposure. For very severe, increased thickness to 20 mm would be required and, for additional protection, Kilwaughter advise the use of K Pro water repellent treatment for exposed costal locations. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC have a stated (EN : 2007) reaction to fire (class) A1 and are classified as non-combustible and are suitable for all situations. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC have a shelf life of approximately 1 year from the date of manufacture if stored off ground in original sealed sacks in dry conditions protected from frost and direct sunlight. K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC should be installed by a competent operative in accordance with the manufacturer s instructions over a suitable basecoat and primer. K Rend Brick Rend can be applied to the basecoat as soon as the basecoat has set. Freshly rendered basecoats need to be left for at least 14 days prior to the application of K Rend Mineral TC. Prior to application the prepared surface needs to be assessed for suitability, clean, smooth and free from efflorescence. Consideration should be given to installing wall mounted fittings such as down pipe brackets prior to rendering using stainless steel fixings. Application of K Rend Brick Rend should only take place when the temperature of the substrate and surrounding air exceeds 5. It should not be applied to damp or frozen substrates or in strong sunshine or wind, at temperatures in excess of 35 or if exposure to frost is likely to occur during curing. Application of K Rend Mineral TC should only take place when the temperature of the substrate and surrounding air exceeds 1. Surfaces need to be completed without interruption always working to a wet edge applying the product using a stainless steel float to the thickness of the largest grain size. Fresh render needs to be protected from rain and from drying too quickly. Drying times may be prolonged by low temperatures and/or elevated humidity.

K Rend Brick Rend and K Rend Mineral TC are supplied as a powder and needs to be mixed for at least 10 minutes in order to break down additives with 5 6 litres of clean water per 25 kg for stainless steel float application. For render only applications the BBA certificates use the phrase designed to be installed by a competent, skilled renderer or a contractor, experienced with this type of product. K Rend products are sold through various retail outlets consequently it is not possible to control who purchases and uses the products. Kilwaughter therefore expect the end customer (i.e. builder, owner etc.) to satisfy themselves about the quality of the workmanship expected from the installer.
