2 - TECHNICAL DATA SHEET - MAKERS OF ADHESIVES, SEALANTS, AND RELATED PRODUCTS SINCE Multiflex (Co-Polymer Sealant) Adress: 8428 Shepard RD SE T2C 1R6, Calgary, AB Phone: [403] Fax: [403] PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Multiflex sealant is a single component, non-sag elastomer, designed for use in most moving and non-moving joints. It has the following unique properties: Gunnable at low temperatures Exhibits immediate adhesion to most building materials, including damp non-porous surfaces BASIC USE Most non-traffic bearing joints, including those where structural movement or stress is expected. Assembly of galvanized air conditioning ductwork May be used primerless on brick, limestone, marble, granite, concrete, ferrous metals, glass, and untreated woods. Where paintability is required Where a non-staining sealant is required COMPOSITION AND MATERIALS Multiflex is based on a proprietary, high molecular weight, ethylene copolymer. Multiflex modifies this specialty resin, producing a system with exceptional adhesion, elasticity, and resistance to tear, shear, shear, stress, and weathering. More economical than most other high performance sealants. Multifex is 100% non-toxic when fully cured. Due to a unique secondary-cure mechanism, its adhesion properties improve with time and weathering, and it exhibits excellent life expectancy. GRADE: Gun Grade Consistency PRIMERS Not required on most building materials. Priming may be required with some plastics, weathering steel, treated woods, and some factory-coated metals. Contact Technical Service Department for further information. PACKAGING: 318 ml. cartridges, 10 litre cans, 20 litre cans, 45 gallon drums. COLORS: Available on request APPLICABLE STANDARDS Federal Specification TT-S-00230C, Class A, Type 11 ASTM C , Type S, Grade NS, Class 25...Continued pg2 Phone: (403) Fax: (403)

3 LIMITATIONS (Not recommended for) Traffic-bearing surfaces Heel bead in glazing applications Bituminous surfaces Where food is processed or stored unless sealant is cured at least 14 days at room temperature, due to solvent release. Cured material is non-toxic. Contact Technical Service Department for specific application. INSTALLATION JOINT DIMENSIONS For optimum results, joints should be a minimum of 4 times greater than anticipated movement. Minimum recommended joint size is 1/4 x 1/4. Maximum joint size should be 1 width by 1/2 depth. A width to depth ratio of 2:1 is desirable. SURFACE PREPARATION Multiflex should be applied to surfaces that are free from oil, grease, wax, dust, corrosion, moisture, or any material that may interfere with obtaining optimum adhesion. Do not use Xylol or MEK to clean joints or to remove surface coatings, unless surface can be allowed to dry before application of sealant. If the joint is wet with solvent, the sealant will not adhere properly. Use of a dry rag or brush to remove dust, dirt or other contaminants is recommended. Contamination from curing agents and from releases should be avoided. JOINT BACKING Joint depth should not exceed 1/2. An open-cell backer rod such as foam, should be used to control joint depth. Do not use bitumen-impregnated backing material. In shallow joints, a bond breaker tape should be installed to prevent three-point contact. APPLICATION AND TOOLING Apply with conventional caulking equipment, filling joint completely. When temperature is below 10 degrees F., application will be easier if sealant is warmed. Tool immediately after application. A soap solution or a solvent such as Xylol may be used as a lubricant for tooling. Do not allow such agents to contaminate open joints. PAINTING Sealant may be painted after 24 hours. If using a relatively inflexible paint, allow sealant to cure for 3 days before painting. Multiflex may be coated with any latex and most oil-based paints. Best results will be achieved when sealant is primed with a latex enamel. Some paints may crack in dynamic joints. See paint manufacturers specifications. CLEANING Remove Multiflex from gun and tools before it cures. This may be done by scraping and use of solvents such as MEK (lacquer thinner), Xylol, Toluol or chlorinated solvents. Cured materials may be removed by cutting with sharp tools or sandpapering. Observe manufacturer s precautions when using toxic flammable solvents. PRECAUTIONS Apply with adequate ventilation. Avoid eye contact. As supplied, product may be harmful or fatal if swallowed; do not induce vomiting, contact a physician immediately. pg3 Phone: (403) Fax: (403)
