If you can picture it, LP Smartside products can make it happen. Here are just some of the ways LP SmartSide upgrades your home s curbside appearance. Natural wood grain texture. LP SmartSide offers the look of traditional wood, thanks to its deep cedar grain texture and defining shadow lines. Some LP SmartSide products are also available in a smooth finish. Fewer seams. LP SmartSide lap and vertical siding are available in 16- foot lengths, which creates the possibility of fewer seams compared to applications that use standard 12-foot siding lengths. No efflorescence. Unlike fiber cement siding, LP SmartSide engineered wood products contain no cementitious products, and therefore no salts and minerals that can cause discoloration. 12 Part III: The SmartGuard Process All LP Smartside trim and siding products feature LP s SmartGuard technology. This unique treatment process uses four components of protection to give our engineered wood products a defense against virtually any climate.

Four Components of Protection Every strand of wood that goes into LP Smartside products is treated with an advanced formula of waxes, binders and zinc borate. An additional water-resistant overlay is bonded to the product after forming, for a total of four separate components of protection. The result: exceptional long-term resistance against moisture and impact damage, termites and fungal decay. Water-resistant waxes. Provide enhanced durability in rainy, humid environments. Industrial-grade binders and resins. Provide incredible strength against impact damage. Zinc borate. Provides effective resistance against damage from termites and fungal decay. Resin-saturated overlay. Provides a final layer of protection against moisture intrusion. 11

Engineered Toughness, Proven Performance For over 20 years, LP Smartside products have undergone an Exterior Exposure Program in one of the most intense proving grounds on earth: Hilo, Hawaii. HILO, HAWAII Harsh jungle environment Average temperature 70 F Annual rainfall 170 (average) High humidity levels High Formosan termite population Hilo s climate creates ideal conditions for moisture intrusion, termite damage and fungal decay. But thanks to the SmartGuard process, LP SmartSide products remain structurally sound even after years of exposure. The SmartGuard process is one reason LP is able to back its SmartSide products with a unique 5/50 Limited Warranty. 12

Part IV: The 5/50 Year Limited Warranty Explained All LP Smartside trim and siding products are protected by a 50-year prorated limited warranty with a five-year 100% labor and material replacement feature one of the most competitive warranties on the market. See the warranty document at for complete details.

General Warranty FAQs Q: Why do warranties matter? A: A warranty is a promise made by the manufacturer of a product to the purchaser that certain conditions (such as the product s lifespan or performance) will be met. Should there be an issue with the product, the manufacturer s and the purchaser warranty holder s responsibilities and financial obligations for resolving the issue are clearly outlined in the terms of the warranty. Q: What is a limited warranty? A: As the term implies, a limited warranty attempts to limit a manufacturer s responsibility, for example, for certain types of defects, certain remedies or the time the purchaser has to make a claim. Read your warranty carefully before you buy siding products so that you fully understand what your limited warranty covers. 13

Q: What is a transferable warranty? A: Warranties are usually made to the original purchaser (i.e. the person who owns the structure at the time of installation). When you sell your home, the warranties often provide that the new owner step into your shoes and can claim a remedy under your warranty. Many warranties for construction materials are transferable just once, meaning they can be passed on to a second homeowner, but not to a third. Other warranties are transferable any number of times during the warranty term. Other restrictions on and requirements for transfer may apply. See your siding limited warranty for complete details. Q: What is the difference between a warranty from a manufacturer and a warranty from a contractor? A: Both warranties are important in that they cover different aspects of a construction project. Most manufacturers warranties protect against defects in their products. Contractors warranties often protect only against improper or erroneous installation and workmanship. 14
