KIESOL STRONG FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS Properties That Make the System So Strong 1. The System is so environment-friendly that it has been proven by DVGW [German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water] and KTW [German Plastics/Drinking Water Recommendation] to be suitable for living spaces, swimming pools and even drinking water reservoirs. 2. Used as a protection and waterproofing system when restoring old buildings and constructing new, strengthens the building material hydrophobically. 3. Silicification and the formation of silica gel narrows the capillaries and imparts a water repelling effect. 4. Since the pore structure is not completely closed, the system remains diffusion-open. 5. The transport of salts to the surface is inhibited and the salts are bound in place. 6. All grout, levelling and mortar systems are highly sulphate resistant. 7. The excellent bonding of the individual components to each other guarantees the greatest security even on extremely wet substrates. 8. Optimal working properties whether by hand or machine guarantee extraordinary economic efficiency. 9. The setting process of the grout system begins immediately; accelerated setting saves time and allows work to be carried out wet-on-wet. 10.Resistance to chemicals is increased up to strong attack according to DIN More than 50 years in practice, numerous expert opinions, test certificates and research reports vouch for the highest resistance. 4

YEARS OF INTENSIVE RESEARCH This Unique Silicate Technology Will Revolutionise the Building Trade After the most intensive research in the laboratory as well as numerous field tests in practice, Remmers made the absolute breakthrough in silicate technology. For the first time, thanks to state-of-the-art silicate technology, it is possible to develop products with extremely high resistance that are also easy to use. As far as its properties are concerned, the new silicate technology supplements all of the materials used so far such as epoxy resin or cement-based systems. Remmers has already developed new products using the revolutionary silicate technology that have proven themselves. The results in practice are overwhelming. Remmers will take advantage of this enormous advantage into the future and bring further products to market based on this new technology. Tomorrow s technology today! Single component, add water Extremely resistant to chemicals Highest resistance to acids, lyes and solvents according to DIN EN Extremely high mechanical loading capacity High pressure cleaning up to 120 bar pressure and +150 C Heat resistant up to a temperature of > 500 C 100% inorganic composition No labelling no hazardous substances Waterproof to over 5 bar Extremely high resistance to chemicals and mechanical loads Easy to work Made of environmentfriendly raw materials Unique technology the world over Unequaled adhesive bonding to the substrate No labelling, completely inorganic Extremely high abrasion resistance 5

THE CAUSE AND TYPE OF DAMAGE Preventing Destruction with the Right Protection and Waterproofing Systems As a waterproofing specialist, Remmers has been successfully active for decades waterproofing buildings in the field of water and sewerage. To permanently and reliably protect concrete, reinforced concrete and masonry work in areas of water supply, sewage and agricultural facilities, you should rely on experience. You should chose your technical advice from a partner with sound specialist knowledge. Particularly in the area of restoration, an analysis of the substrate is an important basis for successful and permanent restoration. Removal of cores to analyse the damage in the substrate and to determine the restoration concept. 6

1 2 3 Water seepage through cracks Leaks caused by the formation of cracks, spalled concrete or defective waterproofing Damaged joints Defective joints and masonry work caused by chemical loads, abrasion and permanent wet loads Leaks around pipes passing through walls Water seepage and leaks around pipes passing through walls caused by static loads 4 5 Damaged concrete in lower areas Broken out areas in the berm and the drainage gutter caused by continuous chemical loads, abrasion and permanently wet loads Defective climbing irons Detachment of concrete in the bedding zone of the climbing irons through steel and concrete corrosion and moisture 6 Defective manhole covers Leaking and broken out joints in manhole sections as well as loose or defective manhole covers caused by mechanical loads 7 Damaged concrete in upper areas Concrete is destroyed by both liquid and gaseous attack. 7

GENERAL REPAIR WORKS Professional Systems for Perfect Fast Repairs Because of technical reasons and design possibilities, concrete is the building material of choice today. In spite of high quality and durability, damage can occur that makes restoration and additional protection necessary. The most important damage mechanism is the corrosion of steel reinforcement caused by deep carbonation or through the penetration of salts (e.g. from sewage). In addition, cracks allow moisture to penetrate which in turn cause rust and frost damage. From cosmetic to structural repairs with products that have National Test Certificates, Remmers offers systems that are hard to beat, especially when it comes to being fast. 8

1 2 3 Cleaning Cleaning is not just to improve appearance. Crusts of dirt store moisture and pollutants, prevent the substrate from drying and reduce adhesion of subsequently applied systems. Injection of cracks To restore a bond while sealing at the same time, cracks are injected with Injection Resin EP. If a certain expansion capacity is needed when bonding the sides of the cracks, Injection Resin 2K PUR can be used, instead. Removal of loose material Corroding steel reinforcement is completely exposed and all loose material that could reduce adhesion is removed. 4 5 De-rusting Corroded reinforcement steel is mechanically de-rusted to SA 2 1 /2. Corrosion protection PCC Primer is used to prime de-rusted reinforcement steel and as a bonding layer. The broken out area can then be closed with a system. 6 Concrete replacement The broken out areas can be filled in one working operation without additional filling using PCC Mortar N. If necessary, the repaired area can be skimmed with PCC Fine Mortar. 7 8 To achieve optimum bond of the protection and waterproofing system to the substrate, the substrate is primed with, diluted in water 1:1. Protection and waterproofing system As soon as the has reacted, the protection and waterproofing system is applied wet-on-wet in several layers (as soon as the previous layer can be worked over without being disturbed). 9 Surface refinement with Depending on the system, is sprayed over the surface for finishing. 9

DRINKING WATER AREAS Protection and Waterproofing System with An Extremely Smooth Surface The surface texture of concrete is always rough and includes pipes, allowing particles to adhere easily. The surface is not as self-cleaning as smooth surfaces usually are. Since deposits remain on the surface, hygiene problems often occur and the cleaning measures that become necessary are intensive and time consuming. Remmers Systems have been used for drinking water areas in the most different types of projects for more than five decades. Keeping in mind system solutions which are practical economical and can be executed properly we have developed different options depending on the state of the substrate. Properties and advantages: Remmers Sulfatex Grout is used to produce thin-layer, rigid protection and waterproofing systems. With Remmers Reprofiling Mortar, a levelling and protection system can be applied in one working operation. The crack-bridging properties of Remmers Elastogrout 2K also allow flexible, thin-layer, mineral protection systems for substrates with a risk of cracks. All systems are given extra protection and an extremely smooth surface which minimises cleaning by impregnating the surface with. 12

1 2 3 Substrate pre-treatment To remove substances that could interfere with adhesion, a steel brush is usually sufficient. For thicker layers of laitance, the use of a grinding machine may be necessary. used as a primer (diluted 1:1 with water) is applied evenly. Highly absorbent substrates should be pre-wet with water. Bonding layer Within the reaction time of, a bonding layer of Remmers Sulfatex Grout is applied with a wide brush. 4 5 Levelling and sealing cove Wet-on-wet, all unevenness is levelled with Remmers Waterproofing Filler and a sealing cove is placed. Sealing cove The sealing cove made of Waterproofing Filler is placed with a special sealing cove trowel and finished so that it has the prescribed radius of 5 cm. 6 Protection and waterproofing system After drying, the protection and waterproofing system is applied in several working operations, wet-on-wet (as soon as the previous layer will not be damaged when worked over). 7 Surface finishing with Impregnating the surface of the waterproofing system in the fresh state results in a resistant, smooth surface. 13

CONCRETE SEWERS Permanent Protection and Waterproofing Water and sewage disposal installations such as sewers, sewer manholes and clarification plants are subjected to continuous heavy loads such as: Static effects through settlement Chemical attack Biological attack Mechanical loads (abrasion) Dynamic loads (traffic) The result is sequential damage over the course of time. Every weak point and leak presents a risk for our ground water. With many years of experience as a producer of protection and waterproofing systems for these areas, Remmers has the right solution for any problem. Our System has proven its effectiveness in countless building projects, both in new construction and when restoring old. Many systems that are more than 50 years old often need to be restored and, depending on load, need restoration concepts that provide state-of-the-art solutions that have been thoroughly tested in practice. 16

1 2 3 Repairing manhole covers Because Remmers Fast Pouring Mortar is really so fast, traffic can roll again 45 minutes at the lastest after manhole covers have been repaired. Bricking up to achieve the proper height can be executed with Remmers Bedding Mortar. Repairing climbing irons Remmers Mounting Mortar is applied to the chiselled out and cleaned openings and the climbing iron reinserted. After just a short time they can be subjected to loads. Even faster repair can be achieved with Remmers Rapid Hardener. Sealing pipes passing through walls Because of the permanently plastic properties of Remmers Stopaq, even the most complicated problems can be taken care of when sealing pipes passing through walls. 4 5 To achieve the best possible anchorage to the substrate, priming is carried out with diluted 1:1 with water. Protection and waterproofing system After the has reacted, the waterproofing system is applied wet-on-wet in several layers (as soon as the previous layer can be worked over without damage). 6 Surface finishing with Impregnating the surface of the protection and waterproofing system in the fresh state results in a resistant, smooth surface. STOPAQ PCC Mortar Using Remmers Stopaq to seal pipes passing through walls. Further information is found in the product overview (see page 30). 17

MASONRY SEWERS SYSTEM SOLUTIONS Problem Working Operation Remmers System Solution Pre-treatment for the following systems Substrate preparation Rotec Low Pressure Blasting Device Maximum pressure water jetting Grit blasting Water leaks Stopping water leaks Rapid Hardener, Waterstop General Pre-Treatment Masonry Repair Restoration of tiles Restoration of cracks Filling joints Stone replacement/bricking up Cementing of tiles, mineral Cementing tiles, reactive resins Rigid crack injection Flexible crack inection Waterproofing Filler Waterproofing Filler Fast Flex Cement Tile Cement EP Injection Resin EP Injection Resin PUR Injection Resin 2K PUR Restoration of manholes Fast pouring, bricking up Fast Pouring Mortar, Reprofiling Mortar Restoration of climbing irons Closing damaged areas and placement of climbing irons Mounting Mortar, Rapid Hardener Sealing pipes Flexible joint formation Stopaq Forming joints Tile areas New joints or restoration of old Joint Filler SF 1 Substrate-Specific Systems Forming and replacing joints in masonry work Rigid coating, mineral, thin-layer 3 mm Rigid coating, mineral, thick-layer 10 mm Brick grout jointing Jointing without grouting Levelling, small areas Coating Surface finishing Coating Surface finishing Joint Grout Waterproofing Filler Waterproofing Filler Sulfatex Grout PCC Primer Reprofiling Mortar = for smooth substrates, = for rough substrates 19

MASONRY SEWERS Renewing Joints in a System 20 Particularly in the area of masonry sewers, joints often present a problem zone. They are also subjected to permanent loads caused by the action of mechanical and bio-chemical influences. Once areas break out and start to disintegrate, the tightness of the building element is no longer guaranteed. Especially when it comes to restoration, Remmers has taken an entirely new route with its brick grout jointing procedure. The economic viability of this procedure is ensured since old and damaged joints can be worked over without the time consuming job of chiselling out the joints. Old joints are permanently protected and waterproofed for decades and the character of the old masonry work is maintained. Remmers also has a Joints repaired and made water repelling The surface of the joints and brick is flush (no cracks, edges or surfaces which can be attacked) special solution on a silicate base for tiles and clinker. Through the use of Remmers SF 1, whether in new construction or for restoring old, joints become extremely resistant and are also resistant to abrasion.

1 2 3 Applying SF 1 After all soiling has been removed from the surface of the tiles, Remmers SF 1 is easily brought into the joint space (with excess material) using a jointing float from the Remmers Tool Programme. Washing off After a reaction time of approx. 15 minutes, Remmers SF 1 is slightly emulsified with water first. This makes it especially easy to remove the remains. Removal of residual grout After initial drying, the entire surface is cleaned again with clean water. If necessary, Alkutex Silicate Cleaner can be used within 48 hours for cleaning. 4 5 Filling joints with Waterproofing Filler Remmers Waterproofing Filler is filled into the cleaned joint area before the grout jointing procedure is carried out or can be used as a joint mortar in its own right. Filling joints by machine For deeper lying joints, Remmers Waterproofing Filler can be applied extremely economically by machine (BMP pump). 6 Applying the grouting mortar Remmers Joint Grout is applied to the surface of the clinker with a jointing float so that joints are filled with an excess of material. 7 8 Coarse cleaning The initially reacted Joint Grout is compacted with a coarse-pored, foam rubber float and coarsely cleaned. Final cleaning Final cleaning is carried out at least twice using a little water and a special slit washing float. 21

CLARIFICATION PLANTS AND SEPARATORS Protection and Waterproofing Even for Extreme Areas When protecting and waterproofing clarification plants and separators made of concrete, special conditions need to be taken into consideration. On one side, the protection and waterproofing system is subjected to abrasion through mechanical loads, e.g. through suspended constituents as well as chemical mediums. In addition, high temperatures often prevail that considerably increase the degree of attack. In these cases Remmers can rely on its simple to use and practical mineral Syste ms that have proven themselves for decades. From priming to levelling all the way to waterproofing, all of them have been tested, the products coordinated to each other and they can also be extremely economically applied to large surfaces in a spraying procedure. By sealing with, a resistant surface is achieved that can withstand practically all loads. And for extreme cases that usually consist of a combination of chemical, thermal and mechanical loads, Remmers SD 1 shows its full potential as a unique, single component waterproofing slurry/grout on a silicate base. With this product, Remmers has started a new age in protection and waterproofing technology for clarification plants and separators. 24

1 2 Substrate pre-treatment A steel brush is usually sufficient to remove material that could interfere with adhesion. For thicker layers of laitance, it may be necessary to use a grinder or blast the substrate. The primer (diluted 1:1 with water) is applied evenly. Highly absorbent substrates should be pre-wet with water. 3 Bonding layer Within the reaction time of, a bonding layer made of Remmers Sulfatex Grout is evenly applied with a wide brush. 4 5 Levelling and sealing cove Wet-on-wet, all unevenness is levelled with Remmers Waterproofing Filler and the sealing cove is placed. Sealing cove A sealing cove made of Waterproofing Filler is placed wet-on-wet, using a special sealing cove trowel which facilitates forming the prescribed radius of 5 cm. 6 Protection and waterproofing system After drying, the protection and waterproofing system is applied in several working operations, wet-on-wet (as soon as the previous layer can be worked over without being damaged). 7 8 Surface finishing with By impregnating the surface (with the exception of the application described in illustration 8) of the protection and waterproofing system in the fresh state, a resistant and smooth surface is achieved. Application of Epoxy Universal On mineral systems, Epoxy Universal should be applied in 3 coats for protection against extreme chemical attack. 25

BIOGAS PLANTS Permanent Concrete Protection Ensures Economic Viability 28 Wherever organic material is stored or fermented, as in the case of biogas plants, fermenters and digestion towers, biological mechanisms occur that cause damage. Decomposition products made of organic compounds inevitably cause damage on concrete surfaces which are not protected. Especially in the upper area, the so-called gas space, acids and gasses form that lead to the corrosion of reinforcement and the concrete itself which can destroy the plant after only a short operating time. Decades of experience gained in sewage engineering can be directly transferred to biogas plants. Remmers Elastogrout 2K with its tested crack-bridging properties of more than 1 mm with simultaneous permanent resistance to manure is extremely suitable as a protection and waterproofing system, particularly in the base area. Combined with as a primer and a surface sealant, the system can be applied in several working operations by hand or machine. In the upper area, the system is enhanced with Epoxy Universal. The application of Epoxy Universal can also be executed completely by hand or in a spraying procedure. When it comes to restoration, Remmers SD 1, a Slurry coat on a silicate base, can show off its advantages such as application to damp substrates as of + 2 C.

1 2 Substrate pre-treatment A steel brush is usually sufficient to remove substances that could interfere with adhesion. In case of thicker layers of laitance, grinding or blasting may be necessary. The primer (diluted 1:1 with water) is applied evenly. Strongly absorbent substrates should be pre-wet with water. 3 Bonding layer Within the reaction time of, a bonding layer made of Remmers Sulfatex Grout is applied evenly with a brush. 4 5 Levelling and sealing cove Wet-on-wet, all unevenness is levelled with Remmers Waterproofing Filler and the sealing cove is placed.
