4 Background - What is Building Commissioning Commissioning: a quality assurance process that spans the entire design and construction process.. Includes verifying and documenting that building systems are: Design Planned and designed properly Review Installed and tested properly Operated and maintained properly Reference: CALGreen Description California Green Buildings Standards Code, Title 24, Part 11.

14 Applicability - Design Review for All Buildings Design Review in all nonresidential buildings Mandatory for projects permitted after 1/1/14 Applies equally for prescriptive or performance compliance paths Section 120.8(d) of the 2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards Section 12.4 of the 2013 Nonresidential Compliance Manual 14

15 Applicability - Commissioning Added to Title 24 part 6 Requirements: Owner s Project Requirements (OPR) Basis of Design (BOD) Design-Phase Review Commissioning measures shown in construction documents Commissioning Plan Functional Performance Testing Documentation and Training Commissioning Report Design-Phase Review required for all buildings, while commissioning is required for buildings >10,000sq.ft. 15
