3 Saudi raw material and German engineering Raw material FBS thermomur Blocks are made of SABIC raw material called EPS. FBS is manufacturing its building blocks out of raw materials delivered by the Saudi supplier SABIC. German machine engineering combined with local materials provides excellent quality, competitive pricing and short delivery times to construction sites in Saudi Arabia. Characteristics Fire retardant expanded polystyrene EPS 550 FF is manufactured by the suspension polymerization of styrene monomer. The polymerization is generally carried out in a batch process and it contains a fire retarding additive in the formulation. EPS 550 FF is an expandable polystyrene grade supplied in free flowing beads, containing pentane (CFC free) as a foaming agent and additives to retard ignitability. Applications EPS 550 FF grade is used for shape molding with wall thickness greater than 10 mm and for block molding with medium-to-high density for thermal insulation in construction industry. EPS 550 FF has retarded ignitability and the moldings made from it will conform to the requirement of DIN class K1 and K2 as well as DIN 4102 class M1 according to the French Ministerial Decree of , relative to the fire behavior of material. Processing EPS 550 FF is processed in three steps: Pre-expansion Maturation and Molding EPS 550 FF is heated by steam at 100 C in a pre-expander. The foaming agent present in the Polystyrene beads vaporizes and mixes with steam. The gas mixture so produced subsequently softens the beads and expands them to times the initial size. In maturation process the foaming agent and steam condense in the cells of the pre-foamed beads causing partial vacuum, which is compensated by the diffusion of air into the beads. The maturation period could be between 3 and 24 hours. In the molding process the matured pre-foamed beads can further be processed by direct steam to the desired shape molding. Handling and health safety EPS 550 FF presents no toxic hazard when handled under normal conditions. EPS now serves as a powerful design element in green building practices. 4 Faster, Better, Simpler What is ICFs Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) represent one of the fastest-- growing sectors in the construction industry today. Market share of this building technology jumped up to nearly 18% of newly built houses, since cost of energy is spiking up sharply and Green Building ideas are in the hearts and minds around the world. Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) are formwork for concrete that stays in place as permanent building insulation for energy-efficient, cast-in-place, reinforced walls, floors, and roofs. The forms are interlocking modular units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with concrete. The forms lock together somewhat like LEGO bricks and serve to create a form for the structural walls or floors of a building. FBS thermomur ICF blocks are manufactured from Polystyrene (EPS) Concrete is pumped into the cavity to form the structural element of the walls. Usually reinforcing steel (rebar) is added before concrete placement to give the concrete flexural strength, similar to bridges and high-rise buildings made of concrete. Like with other concrete formwork, the forms are filled with concrete in 1.0m to 1.50m "lifts" to manage the concrete pressure and reduce the risk of blowouts. After the concrete has cured, or firmed up, the forms are left in place permanently for the following reasons: Thermal and acoustic insulation Space to run electrical conduit and plumbing.
