4 Ezy-Lite Installation & Specification Manual Board Fixing 4 th Edition 2014 P a g e 3 1 Introduction Ezy-Lite Board (Ezy-Lite) is a 10mm thick Magnesium oxide construction board that out performs other materials including gypsum plasterboard, or Portland Cement based boards. Where Ezy-Lite excels is through its high performance characteristics, and its environmentally green credentials. Replacement for: Uses: - Gypsum Plasterboard - Fire Walls / Floors / Ceilings - Tile Backer Board - Fire Resistant Steel Protectors - Fireproof Board - Acoustic Walls / Sound Barriers - Exterior Cladding - Shaft and Fire-fighting Walls 1.1 Performance Benefits: - Fire Resistant - Water Resistant - Mould and Mildew Resistant - Acoustics - Environment - Carbon Negative - Contains No Heavy Metal Salts - Contains No Formaldehyde - Contains No Asbestos - Contains No Benzene - Contains No Toxic Components - Contains No Organic Solvents - Can be recycled and reused in production - Contains No Oils - Can be crushed and used as hardcore - 50% less production energy than Portland Cement based boards - Density 1100kg/m³ 1.2 Testing Ezy-Lite has been tested for, - Thermal Performance in accordance with AS/NZS , - Fire Resistance Level (FRL) 60/60/60 in accordance with AS , a full scale 3.0 x 3.0 metre timber framed wall lined both sides with Ezy-Lite board. - Non-combustible in accordance with AS , - Early Fire Hazard Properties 0,0,0,0-1 to AS/NZS Airborne sound transmission loss (Rw) to AS 1191, - As a building façade to AS/NZS being for Air Infiltration, Water Pressure, & Structural ULS, Ezy-Lite board was subjected to a standard water penetration pressure of 1500 Pa and passed. The wall sample was tested for the Ultimate Limit State Pressure of 5000 Pa, which Ezy-Lite board passed.

Place a straight edge along the Ezy-Lite Boards then score with knife along. Using both hands snap over a straight edge. Alternatively a circular saw with standard timber cutting blade may be used, ensure to use proper safety goggles, dust mask and ear muffs when using power tools on Ezy-Lite Boards in a well-ventilated area. Note: Safety Goggles, Ear Muffs, and Dust Mask must be worn at all times when cutting with power tools. Ezy-Lite Building products has no harmful or poisonous ingredients like asbestos or silica, it is safe to handle and easy to cut just follow our instructions in this manual, and the MSDS.

7 Ezy-Lite Installation & Specification Manual Board Fixing 4 th Edition 2014 P a g e 6 Dust Mask Safety Glasses Ear Muffs Vertical Installation Horizontal Installation Always install full panels where possible and avoid many joints by using small pieces when installing Ezy-Lite Boards, as this may result in cracks occurring. Ensure timber studs are spaced at max. 450mm centers as per AS 1684, Ezy-Lite boards should be have max 3mm gap between and filled with fire rated sealants. When Ezy-Lite boards do not meet on a stud, back blocking is required for vertical joints. 6 Installation Before installing Ezy-Lite boards, ensure all eaves, flashings, windows and doors are installed, as this may affect or delay the installation. In this manual we have provided easy to follow detailed drawings and step by step installation guide for all to understand and install correctly. We also provide all clients a visit onsite to train installers how to install Ezy-Lite boards in accordance with our installation guide, this is followed by another visit to the site before render is applied to ensure the installation is carried out correctly and to issue an FRL certificate upon completion. Notes: Only use 8g x 65mm C3 fasteners size and type, Fuller or Bostik fire Rated Sealants and breathable wall wrap.

8 Ezy-Lite Installation & Specification Manual Board Fixing 4 th Edition 2014 P a g e 7 Allow Max 3 mm gap between boards for Bostik or Fuller fire rated sealants, and Max 5 mm gap for Expansion joints. Screw spacing s for Ezy-Lite boards max 300mm c/c and min penetration in timber 25 mm, steel 15 mm. (See Fixing Table) All external walls to be clad with Ezy-Lite boards must be lined with breathable wall wrap to prevent moisture forming inside the cavity transferring internally. When battening walls, fix breathable wall wrap under timber or steel battens, ensure to fix battens vertically only. Place 25 mm daps of Bostik No Nail spaced at 300mm centres on studs/ battens. 6.1 Batten & Wall Wrap 6.2 Back Blocking Use back blocking for all vertical joints not at studs. 24 Ezy-Lite Installation & Specification Manual Board Fixing 4 th Edition 2014 P a g e Application and Finish Ezy-Lite panels must be coated with render or sealed with a paint system immediately after installation. Ezy-Lite Board must be installed in accordance with this installation manual, we provide assistance and guide to ensure installers follow our strict installation manual. We strongly advise clients not to use dark colours as this may cause high temperature variations within the substrate and lead to excessive thermal movement and cracks Rendering It is the renderer s responsibility to use the appropriate compounds in the coating system sufficient to eliminate cracking of the joints under normal building settlement conditions. We recommend the use of Haymes, Multitex, Quickcote or Dulux, other brands have not been used or tested on Ezy-Lite products, therefore we do not recommend the use of other brands. 1. Trowel on Patch approx 1 mm thick over joints then place 100mm wide alkalineresistant 5mm weave fibre-glass mesh 160g/m2) over wet rendering. Apply aluminum angle beads to all external corners including window and door openings. Apply a 2nd layer of patch over fibreglass mesh while patch is still wet. (Allow drying time Min 24 hrs) refer to manufacturers specifications for drying periods. 2. Render entire board surface with polymer modified acrylic render Quikcote flexipatch/ Quikcote wet patch, or similar, at a minimum of 2mm thick. 3. Apply another layer of fibreglass mesh across the entire Ezy-Lite surface. 4. The mesh is to be trowelled into the surface of the wet render, positioned just below the surface. Under no circumstances should the mesh be fixed to the walls and render applied over it. Overlap all fibreglass mesh sheets a minimum of 50mm. 5. Ensure the entire surface is level (taking into account the joint). Make sure that the joint is not proud of the remaining surface. Apply a second coat if the outline of the joint and fixings is not eliminated. 6. Apply trowel-on texture/colour to entire surface, Please note: all coatings must be applied and maintained in accordance with the coating manufacturer's instructions. 7. Apply by roller (or mix in with color when trowelling) sealer to entire wall. The sealer protects the color fading and waterproofing of wall Painting A number of joint/coating systems have been developed by a number of painting and rendering manufacturers which would be suitable for Ezy-Lite boards. application systems must be chosen from reputable system providers such as Dulux, Taubmans and Haymes. Clean all painting surface from dust and loose particles before apply 2 coats Grip set Betta over entire Ezy-Lite board, followed by 2 coats of colour paint, refer to manufacturers application and drying time before recoating Tiling Ezy-Lite Board is recommended for tiling internal or externally, flexible tile adhesive be used for tile applications. Please refer to adhesive manufacturer for suitability and application information. It is also important to note that the weight loading of the tiles depends on the thickness of the Ezy-Lite Boards used, and stud centers.
