RESEARCH REPORT: RR Irelan Place (CSI #03540) Dublin, OH Expires: March 1, 2013 Attn: Paul Meisel Issued Date: March 1, 2012 (614) Code: 2011 LABC GENERAL APPROVAL One Hour Fire Resistive Wood Floor-Ceiling Assembly. DETAILS One Hour Fire Resistive Floor-Ceiling Assembly: Finish Floor: As specified in Listing for UL Design L583. Sub-Floor: 23/32 inches thick T&G Plywood. Structural member: 1. Parallel Chord Trusses: 12-inches minimum depth spaced at a maximum 24- inches o.c., fabricated from 2x4 lumber connected together with inches galvanized plates with 5/16-inches long teeth projecting perpendicular to the plane of the plate. 2. I shaped wood joists: Min 9-1/2-inches deep, spaced max 24-inches o.c. Minimum joist bearing on bearing plate shall be 2-inches. Joists secured to bearing plates with two 8d nails at each end. Circular holes may be cut in the web of joists in accordance with the manufacturer s published instructions. Not evaluated for use with ceiling dampers. 2 Kinetics Noise Control, Inc. RE: One Hour Fire Resistive Wood Floor-Ceiling Assembly. 3. Wood joists: Min 2 by 10, spaced max 16-inches o.c. and effectively fire blocked in accordance with 2011 LABC. Cross bridging shall be min 1 by 3-inches or minimum 2 by 10 solid blocking. When ceiling damper (Item 9 of UL Design L583) is employed, wood 2 by 4-inches horizontal bridging used in lieu of cross bridging and secured between joists with nails. Furring Channels: 25-gauge thick, 7/8-inches deep by a min of 2-1/2-inches wide galvanized steel hat shaped furring channels. Furring channels installed perpendicular to trusses at 24 inches maximum spacing and connected to bottom of the structural memeber with Kinetics IsoMax Clips. Furring channel splice to be over lapped 4 inches and secured together with 4 wraps of 18 gauge tie wire saddle tied and spaced 1 inch from each channel end at splice. Kinetics IsoMax Clip: Clips are 3-7/8-inches long by 1-inch wide by 1-1/8-inches high and consist of a solid rubber material interconnected with and enclosed by two rounded metal end pieces as shown on the attached detail. The furring channels are inserted into the IsoMax clips and the IsoMax clips are attached to the bottom of the structural member with two #8 x 2-1/2- inches long bugle head coarse thread drywall screws using the holes at each end of the IsoMax clip. IsoMax Seismic Clip per drawing below shall be installed at every other IsoMax clip (Max 96 inches) along the furring channel. The IsoMax clips are spaced a maximum of 48 inches along the hat channel. Insulation: Ceiling-Two Layer: 6-1/4-inches thick unfaced R-19 fiberglass insulation draped over the furring channels between the trusses. Base layer of 5/8 inches Gypsum Board Type C (United Sates Gypsum Co.) installed with long edges parallel and centered over the trusses with the end joints centered on the furring channels and staggered 24-inches from the adjacent courses end joints. Base layer attached with 1-inch long type S steel screws spaced 12-inches o.c. with the two end screws located 1-1/2-inches from the edge of the board. Face layer of 5/8-inches Type C (United Sates Gypsum Co.) installed parallel to the trusses with its long edges 12 inches from the base layer. End joints are centered on the furring channels and staggered 24-inches from the base layer end joints. Face layer attached to the furring channels with 1-5/8-inches long type S steel screws spaced 12-inches o.c. with the last two screws located 1-1/2-inches and 6-inches from the edge of the board. Face layer shall have all exposed joints treated with 2-inches wide paper tape and covered with two layers of joint compound. Screw heads shall also be covered with two layers joint compound. 3 Kinetics Noise Control, Inc. RE: One Hour Fire Resistive Wood Floor-Ceiling Assembly. The one-hour fire resistive floor-ceiling assembly is approved subject to the following conditions: 1. The ultimate strength of the IsoMax Clip with the seismic clip attached is 215 -lbf for load applied parallel to the furring channels when installed in accordance with the attached drawing. For allowable stress design (ASD) the ultimate load shall be divided by a factory of safety, Ω, of 3. For LRFD, the ultimate load shall be multiplied by a resistance factor, φ, of The IsoMax clip has nominal and service lateral displacements of 0.39 inches and 0.32-inches at design strength and allowable strength level forces respectively. 2. Calculations and details prepared by a California licensed civil or structural engineer or architect shall be submitted to plan check showing the ceiling with the IsoMax clips and seismic clip is designed to resist the seismic loads in accordance with chapter 13 of ASCE Design of the ceiling, perimeter members, and penetrations shall consider the lateral displacement of the ceiling due to lateral seismic loads. 3. Complete details and description of the floor ceiling assembly shall be shown on the approved set of plans. 4. Sound rating is not included in the approval. 5. The lumber trusses shall be approved by a current Los Angeles City Research Report. 6. The floor-ceiling assembly shall be designed by a California licensed civil or structural engineer or architect. Complete plans and details shall be submitted to structural plan check for each project. 7. Truss connector plates shall be approved by a current Los Angeles City Research Report. DISCUSSION The report is in compliance with the 2011 Los Angeles City Building Code. The approval was based on tests. The safety factor, φ, and resistance factor, Ω, for the allowable and LRDF design, respectively, were derived in accordance with the AISI S under the 2011LABC. Addressee to whom this Research Report is issued is responsible for providing copies of it, complete with any attachments indicated, to architects, engineers and builders using items approved herein in design or construction which must be approved by Department of Building and Safety Engineers and Inspectors.
