Maldon Works Boral Cement

Maldon Works - Plant Update Overview of Maldon operations Maldon operates a slag drying plant, two cement mills, a blending plant and a packaging plant. Maldon mills nine different cements and also produces concretes, renders, specialised sands and mortars. Maldon also supplies slag/lime blends in bulk. This is used in soil stabilisation during road construction. Main raw materials are Clinker brought in by rail from Berrima Slag by product of steel manufacture brought in by truck from Port Kembla Gypsum brought in by truck from Port Kembla

Maldon Works - Plant Update Update since December 2015 Envisia which is a low CO2 product was used to build a few buildings in Sydney. These will be used to showcase the product. The hope is that this will give the market confidence to use it in other projects. Maldon continues to be integrated into a Southern Highlands structure along with Marulan and Berrima operations in order to reduce costs by sharing resources. Goal is to keep Boral cement viable in the global market. We compete with an imported clinker (an intermediate material in the production of cement) and need to be competitive. Over last year there was reduction in employee numbers through Voluntary Redundancies. Maldon lost 2 employees in this process. Across Southern Highlands 28 took redundancy. Rehabilitation of old shale quarry alongside Picton Road completed. New Storage Shed Extension for pallets of Cement constructed. DA submitted for Slag/Lime blending plant expansion.

Maldon Works Boral Cement SAFETY Safety remains a main focus for the business. Maldon had a serious accident in January when a contractor was crushed under a bearing housing weighing over 1ton. The contractor is still recovering from his injuries. Learnings from the accident : 1. Need to constantly review the risks associated with a task. If we change something then the risk assessment needs to be reviewed and updated. 2. We don t always recognise a safety risk.

Blend Plant Upgrade Project Background Slag Lime Blends are used primarily for road stabilisation during road construction and in the mining industry. Boral primarily supplies 70:30 and 85:15 Slag/Lime blends. 12

Blend Plant Upgrade Business Case Maldon has two feed bins ahead of it s blender. It is possible to blend slag with lime or slag with cement..but not both. The proposal is to install a new raw material bin before the blending plant and a new product bin after the blender. Maldon will then have 3 bins before the blending plant which will hold Cement, Lime and Slag and 3 after the blender. This will enable Maldon to produce Slag/Lime blends and a Slag/Cement blend for dispatch. Capital investment is $1.17million Improved margin by $40 per ton compared to blending at Kooragang plant in Newcastle Increased sales of 8000 tpa Increased usage of Marulan lime by an estimated 2800 tpa. Financial Benefit $900k per annum 13
