Manufacturers of hand-held motor -operated electric tools. What do you do? 1. CSA International Service Delivery staff will contact you to address compliance with each revision as applicable to the product designs covered in your affected Certification Reports. In addition to updates to your Certificate(s) of Compliance & Report(s), testing may be required to comply with these revisions. 2. Please respond within thirty (30) days of receiving CSA International s Authorization to Proceed letter. You must respond no later than October 31, 2011 in order to guarantee the update to your certification is completed by. If testing is needed, we will inform you of the samples required. 3 ATTACHMENT 2 Major Revisions The following are the differences between IEC , 4 th Edition and IEC rd Edition: 1. Clarification of sample requirements during testing. Clause 5.2 was modified to address these changes. 2. Clarification of marking and instructions requirements. The sign M002 of ISO 7010 was added as an alternate to WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury, user must read instruction manual. In addition, new instructions were added to clause item (d) for tools with water supply or liquid system. 3. Modification of Figures 3 and 4 to clarify how to measure the leakage current. 4. Modification of Table 1 by re-naming temperature class designations from Classes A, E, B, F and H to Classes 105, 120, 130, 155 and 180 respectively. 5. The investigation of motor windings that exceed the maximum allowable temperature was modified. Refer to clause It is important to note that the armatures and/or stators that were subjected to the conditioning tests are to be re-assembled and installed back in the tool before the leakage and the electric strength tests are carried out. 6. New clauses 14.4 and 14.5 were added to cover the investigation of tools provided with a liquid system and a RCD or GFCI. 7. Clause was re-written to clarify the requirements for electronic modules that are either potted or unpotted. 8 A new clause 19.6 was added that requires the no load speed of certain tools to be verified. 9. A new clause 20.5 was added to clarify the requirements for tools that can cut into concealed wiring. The requirement is intended to prevent damage to the concealed wiring. In the past this requirement was specified in clause 9.4 of the North American deviations. 10. Clause was re-written to cover new requirements for tools that employ a liquid system. 11. A new requirement in the manual was added to clause item 2 (f) to cover tools that incorporate a RCD. The term RCD may be replaced by the term GFCI. 12. Clause 23.2 was modified to allow a RCD or GFCI to be connected to the flexible supply cord or cord set. 13. Clause was modified to allow cord guards that are integral to the cord. In the past, this was a North American deviation. 14. Table 10 was modified by reducing the clearance and creepage for 130V or less to 2.5 mm, same as the present North American deviation. 15. Clause 28.2 was modified to allow the distance through insulation for tools rated 130V or less to 1 mm if separated by supplementary insulation and 1.5 mm if separated by reinforced insulation. 16. Clause 31.2 was added to cover tools with lasers. The lasers shall be of Class II classification or lower and comply with IEC DQD e Rev Page 3 of 9

As of hand-held motor-operated electric tools presently Certified to the following CSA Standards, shall be evaluated for compliance with CSA Standard CAN/CSA- C22.2 No Third Edition (UL Fourth Edition). C22.2 No (UL First Edition); and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No Second Edition (UL Third Edition) In addition to the compliance with the CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No , the hand-held motor-operated electric tools shall comply with the corresponding CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No Part 2 Standards listed in Attachment 3 by the effective date. 2. To accommodate the industry needs, hand-held motor-operated electric tools may still be certified to the following CSA Standards, before and upon written request from the manufacture. CAN/CSA-C22.2 No Second Edition (UL Third Edition) and associated C22.2 No Part 2 Standards listed in Attachment 5; or C22.2 No (UL First Edition) and the associated C22.2 No Part 2 Standards listed in Attachment 6.. After the hand-held motor-operated electric tools noted above in this item shall comply with CSA Standard CAN/CSA-C22.2 No Third Edition (UL Fourth Edition) and the associated C22.2 No Part 2 Standards listed in Attachment In order to complete the update of certification for hand-held motor-operated electric tools noted in items (1) and (2) by the effective date of, you must respond no later than October 31, If testing is needed, CSA International will inform you of the samples required.
