3 HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment 2008 Page 2 Paper 7a Construction Details & Documentation 1 Assignment Statement Your client bought himself a private house built in reinforced concrete post and beam structural system with non-load bearing concrete wall (see Attachment 1). He planned to utilise the remaining permitted plot ratio by extending a reinforced concrete (RC) floor plate of 2m x 6m with normal design load of 5KPa from the Living Room at Ground Floor, and another RC floor plate to form a flat roof accessible from the Master Bedroom at 1F. You are commissioned by him as a newly qualified architect and your task is to produce a set of coordinated construction documents based on the drawing in Attachment 1. You are required to prepare the specified construction details and schedule, as set out below for construction. (For the purpose of this Paper, the design is deemed to be approved by the Building Authority.) 2 Submission Requirements Notes 2a Drawing(s) : Wall Section (section mark P indicated in Attachment 1); Draw on the tracing paper(s) showing the new works and the affected parts of the existing building : Scale 1: 50 (suggested) The drawing should include but not limited to the followings: Annotations, levels and dimensions; the existing works required to be demolished / modified to be clearly indicated. 2b Window and Door Schedule Draw on the tracing paper(s) showing new window(s) and door(s) in schedule format. Add door mark(s) and window mark(s) on the drawing in Attachment 1 as appropriate.

8 HKIA/ARB Professional Assessment 2008 Page 2 Paper 7b Building Design 1 Problem Statement Your Client, a non-profit making institution, has applied to Government for land to build a new University Graduate Amenity Centre in the urban area for local and overseas university graduates. It will be a venue for sports, recreation and academic interaction and activities. A Site within the urban area has been offered by the Government. Your task is to prepare a schematic design which satisfies generally all functional and statutory requirements, for presentation to the Client. Your design should incorporate preliminary provisions and requirements for building structure, building services, utilities and the like. The design should be sensitive to the Site and neighborhood. Maximization of the development potential of the Site is not required. 2 Site Description Context The Site is a hypothetical site within the urban area of Hong Kong Island. The Site is flat and is abutting a major road to its North with a 3m wide pavement. Running along the East is a secondary road with a 2.5m wide pavement. To the West of the Site is a lane which can be considered as a street for the purpose of Building (Planning) Regulations, and an open playground beyond. To the immediate South is an abutting adjacent development site on which a 6 storeys high (3.5m each floor) institutional building is erected. To the East across the secondary road is a 20 storey residential development, to the North across the main road are highrise office buildings. There are 2 numbers of mature tree (6m crown, 8m high approximately) within the site which need to be preserved at its original location. See Attachment 1: Location Plan. Planning Preliminary advice from the Planning Department restricts the height of the building to four storeys, including basement(s), if any. Vehicular Access Vehicular access can be obtained from the secondary road between points X & Y through Z. (see Attachment 2) Environmental Factors Traffic noise from the main road and secondary road is not significant.
