1 Installation guide 600 mm

2 ROCKFON tiles with the D edge detail are suitable for installation using this system. The following ceiling tile module sizes (mm) can be used with : 1500 x X x x x x x 300 When creating a ceiling using this system, the main runners / primary channels are posi tioned at centres. Stepped Z sections are posi tioned to suit the size of the tiles mm 5 NB: Illustration shows two of the many layout options. 9 Description is a galvanised concealed grid system which can be used to install ROCKFON tiles with the D edge detail. It comprises main runners/primary channels and stepped Z sections. ROCKFON tiles with D edges can be easily installed and subsequently demounted from this system, thereby providing an aesthetically pleasing fully concealed and accessible ceiling. can be either suspended or directly fastened to the soffit using a variety of hangers.

4 Perimeter finish options & service integration See below some options for perimeter finishing. 1. Angle trim. Shadow batten and angle trim 3. Shadow moulding 4. Timber moulding 5. Plain gypsum border Service integration A variety of service installations and lights can be easily incorporated into this system and ROCKFON ceiling tiles. Service installations should not be supported on the ceiling tile alone. Installation loads should always be adequately spread on the back of the tile or transferred to the grid system using appropriate support arms or yokes. When integrating services into tiles, to ensure that the ceiling remains level, always use angle splines in the unsupported adjacent edges of the tiles. Light integration installation of spotlights, down lights and recessed modular lights. When integrating recessed modular luminaires into ROCKFON System Z, due to the offset nature of the system, it is important to ensure that the luminaire will fit. Please contact ROCKFON for specific advice re garding suit able manufacturers. Speaker integration installation of speakers. Smoke detector integration installation of smoke detectors. Alternatively the installation should be independently supported. Ventilation integration installation of various types of ventilation and air conditioning items. Sprinkler integration integration of sprinklers. 4

5 Perimeter Finishing Accessories Junction between ceiling and wall or other vertical surface The perimeter trim should be fastened to vertical surfaces at the required level using appropriate fixings at nominal 450 mm centres. Ensure that butt joints between adjoining lengths of trim are neat and that the trim is free from kinks and remains true and level. For the best aesthetics, use as long a length of trim as possible. The minimum recommended cut length is 300 mm. Junction between ceiling and curved vertical surface The use of a preformed curved perimeter trim is the most appropriate method. This should be installed as described above. ROCKFON can provide details of curved perimeter trims on request. Corners Perimeter trims should be neatly mitred at all corner joints. Overlap mitres are acceptable on metal trims on internal corner joints unless specified otherwise. Main grid Unless specified otherwise, the ceiling should be set out symmetrically and where possible, perimeter tiles should be greater than 00 mm in width. Suspended installation The hangers should be fastened to the soffit with appropriate top fixings and to the main runners / primary channels at centres. Main runners / primary channels should be positioned at centres and levelled at the appropriate cei ling height.if using primary channels, ad joining lengths should be overlapped by 150 mm and tightly jointed together using No. self drilling screws. x 300 mm module Fit 58 mm stepped Z sections at 300 mm No. preformed wire clips at every inter section. x 600 mm module Fit 58 mm stepped Z sections at 600 mm No. preformed wire clips at every inter section. 600 mm x 600 mm module Fit 58 mm stepped Z sections at 600 mm No. preformed wire clips at every inter section. x module Fit 58 mm stepped Z sections at No. preformed wire clips at every intersection. Fit 1195 mm long cut lengths of C sections in the unsupported adjacent edges. Tile installation We recommend the use of clean nitrile or PU coated gloves when installing ROCKFON tiles in order to avoid fingerprint marking on the surface. For an optimum work environment, we recommend installers always observe common work practices and follow installation advice as shown on our packaging. ROCKFON tiles are easy to cut using a sharp knife. Apply ROCKFON edge paint to any visible cut edges. Where required, cut perimeter tiles using a sharp knife so that they overlap the perimeter trim by 7 mm. Fit perimeter tiles using wall clips positioned at 600 mm centres as shown in Fig D. Direct fix installation Fasten the stepped Z sections at centres to suit the tile module size using No. wood joint clips positioned at centres. See Fig D3 for details. Level the stepped Z sections using packs and fit the tiles as described above. The finished ceiling height will be a minimum of 69 mm from the soffit. Hangers Rigid angle hangers should be used to suspend. Wood joint clips should be used to direct fix. Top fixings Top fixings are available from many specialist suppliers. It is important to be sure that the top fixings used to support the ceiling are appropriate for the specific soffit and that they provide adequate pull out strength when installed.
