1.0 Introduction The intention of this document is to provide the reader with a basic understanding of the ExPanda Fence and associated safety features. Its intent is to highlight the advantages of the system against current systems used in the construction industry and to significantly reduce the hazards that arise on all construction sites. 3

2.0 Background Workright Edge Protection Systems is a newly founded company specialising in edge protection on mulit-storey construction sites. The directors Andrew Panda, Roland Blundell (Highlight Aluminium Pty Ltd) and Brian Whelan (Active Platforms) have joined to design a superior safety fence that protects workers from injury or a fatality in the workplace. The ExPanda fence system will set a new benchmark in safety in the construction industry. 4

3.0 Existing Fence Systems Typical examples of current fence systems which fail to meet Australian standards. 5

4. Features 4.1 Packaging All components are packages in purpose made stillages making it easy to; Transport to and from sites Load components in alimaks Lift with tower crane if required Kickboards Stirrups (posts) Fence Panels 6

4. Features continued ExPanda Fence has the ability to follow the foot print of any shape and size on multi-storey construction sites. With its patent design the system can expand or contract as required. This allows you to achieve desired lengths of fencing required to close off internal and external corners and any other obstacles that arise on sites, eg. Alimaks, loading platforms, formwork hoist. 8 4. Features continued Formwork hoist Gate for loading bay areas 8

4. Features continued 4.2 Rubber Flaps Kickboards have been designed with grooves to allow rubber flaps to be attached to cover up penetrations on slab edge generally caused by façade brackets. This allows brackets to be adjusted and locked off behind safety fences eliminating the use of a harness generally used for this activity. Rubber Flaps 9

4. Features continued 4.3 Exclusion Zone Another feature to the design is the exclusion zone. This is easily created by hooking on the plastic chain to the back of the posts. This prevents the general workforce, plant equipment and materials entering within 800mm of slab edges. (Note: If additional protection is needed barrier netting can be used in lieu of plastic chain). Exclusion zone (plastic chain) 10

4. Features continued 4.4 Attachments What makes the ExPanda fence system so unique is the safety attachments that adapt onto the systems. Edge restraint attachments which easily fit to base eyelets on posts, allowing workers using plant equipment on floors a simple and safe solution to prevent plant equipment driving towards slab edge. Edge restraint attachment 11

4. Features continued Hinges that attach to fence allowing fences to open and pivot like a gate to allow the installation of loading platform without compromising the structural integrity of the system. Hinges for gate 12

4. Features continued Lead stands can also be fitted to the key hole slots fabricated on the sides of the posts allowing workers a safe hanging point for electrical leads. Lead stand 13

4. Features continued Harness attachments There will be occasions where works can only be accessed pass the line of the fence, therefore a harness attachment point pre-fitted on each post gives workers a safe alternative without lengthy delays in setting up safety lines. Harness attachment point 14

4. Features Continued Installations of facades One of the highest risks on construction sites is façade installation. The ExPanda fence is the most effective solution to combat the safety challenges with this industry. The Expanda takes the responsibility away from the workers (to make sure that they are harnessed up to life lines) and provides a strong physical barrier in front of them allowing installation to proceed in the manner they are accustomed to. 15

4. Features continued Design allows for installation behind screens where needles protrude through fence onto slab. Allows personnel removing screens to work behind fence at all times, eliminating the use of alternative restraint systems which become difficult to manage. 16

4. Features continued Alternative posts cater for different applications of the system giving you the flexibility to complete floor finishes to balcony areas and allow flashings and capping to façade to be installed behind the fence. Alternative posts can also be adapted to steel construction buildings where by Expanda Fence is pre-installed to horizontal steel beams prior to lifting into position offering edge protection to form workers installing Bond Deck or Form Ply for slabs. This application could also be used for pre-cast construction. 17

4. Features continued Full height screen Full height screens can be easily attached to post to provide full height containment in those high risk areas. Height can range from 2m up to 3.7m high. One person can erect screens without the use of access equipement(eg. Ladders, scaffold, scissor lifts). 18

5.0 Advantages over existing fence systems ExPanda Fence System 1 All workers work behind fence in installation of facades. Other Safety Fences Fences require removal to install facades. 2 Workers do not require harnesses working at slab edge. All workers require safety lines and harnesses. 3 Fences remain in place at all times for workers on site. Fences are removed to install facades exposing risk to other workers in area. 4 ExPanda Fence can increase or decrease length to properly secure edge protection. 5 ExPanda post can be moved sideways to any location to miss stress pockets or Rio bars in concrete slabs. Fences are 2.4m long and must be modified to provide continuous edge protection compromising structural integrity. Fence can only be installed at 2.4m increments creating problems with stress pockets and Rio bars in concrete slabs. 19

5.0 Advantages over existing fence systems ExPanda Fence System 6 System comes with gates for installation of loading platform. 7 Safety lines are not required with ExPanda Fence, therefore does not interfere with other trades. 8 ExPanda Fence system adapts safety attachments such as plant equipment, restraint and lead stands. 9 Expanda Fence offers engineered certified system. Other Safety Fences Other system does not. Safety line system is required and becomes an interference for other works on floor, eg. Service trades, loading platform installation. Other system does not. Other system does not 10 Expanda Fence follows the hierarchy of control in the building industry by eliminating harness for most activities. 11 ExPanda has less posts and fence panels, therefore faster installation. Other system does not Other has more posts and fence panels therefore slower installation time. 20

6.0 Product Summary Workright s ExPanda Fence System is the leader in edge protection in the market place, exceeding Australian & world standards in terms of strength, versatility and safety features. Our continued commitment to safety will allow the ExPanda Fence to evolve with new building practices and standards. Unlike other safety fences, the ExPanda Fence has been specifically designed for multi-storey construction sites and ensures the safety of all trades on site. 21
