1 APPENDIX 1 PROJECT REQUIREMENTS I) Scope of Work This section contains a general summary of the work the Contractor shall perform under this contract. If any conflict exists between the work described in this summary and the work defined in other specification sections or the drawings, those documents shall take precedence. A. The Contractor shall provide for all labor, material, equipment, incidentals and general conditions necessary to perform all the work as indicated in the contract documents and as required for a complete project. B. The work for this project, the 51 st Green Line Station located at 319 E. 51 st Street, Chicago, Illinois includes, but may not be limited to, the following: 1. Demolition: 1. Remove treads, risers and anchors at two (2) exit stairs, full stair. 2. Remove welded stair handrails and brackets at five (5) stairs and at transfer bridge. 3. Remove metal roof deck at alley stair. 4. Remove expanded metal wire mesh at top of two (2) exit stairs. 5. Remove cast iron treads at one (1) transfer stair (platform to bridge). 6. Remove glazing panels at transfer stair to accommodate new louvers panels. 7. Remove four (4) storefront doors and frames. 8. Prepare station house floor to accept new epoxy coating. 9. Remove existing granite pavers. 10. Remove entrance sign over sidewalk. 11. Remove all existing light fixture interior components, lenses, lamps and gasketing. Appendix 1: Page 1 of 9

2 12. Remove six (6) façade light fixtures. 13. Remove two (2) suspended light fixtures; salvage for relocation. 14. Remove cast iron treads and anchors at one (1) transfer stair (platform to bridge). 15. Remove backer rod and sealant at elevator panel joints. 16. Remove adjacent grating panel at elevator, platform level. 17. Remove 2x4 wood planks at benches, salvage for refurbishing. 18. Remove existing wood sandboxes. 19. Prepare trash receptacle surface to accept paint. 20. Remove existing painted unistrut at underside of east platform. Protect conduit during construction. 21. Remove threshold plate at elevator. 22. Remove rotogate, exit gate and full height barrier where shown on the drawings. Rotogate to be relocated. 23. Remove welded mesh panels where shown on the drawings. Protect existing angle frame in place. 24. Remove wood decking with anchor holes larger than ¼ inch diameter. 25. Remove all other items as shown, indicated, or as otherwise required to facilitate the new construction. 26. Remove (2 nd from top) continuous angle rail where shown on the drawings. 27. Remove existing handrail assembly and brackets where shown on the drawings. 2. New Work - Grade Level: 1. Provide wood risers and treads with aluminum nosing plate on existing steel stringers at two (2) exit stairs. 2. Provide ADA compliant 1 1/2 inch diameter welded stainless steel handrails with welded brackets at five (5) total stairs and at transfer bridge. Appendix 1: Page 2 of 9

3 3. Provide galvanized corrugated metal roof deck at alley exit stair. 4. Provide galvanized steel wire mesh at two (2) exit stair top landings. 5. Provide cast iron treads at one (1) transfer stair (platform to bridge). 6. Provide galvanized steel louver panels at transfer stair enclosure. 7. Provide four (4) stainless steel and glass storefront doors with frame and ADA hardware including continuous hinge. 8. Provide one (1) stainless steel ADA automatic door push button pylon with braille sign (exterior) and one (1) interior pylon without braille. 9. Provide new epoxy coating throughout station house concrete floor. 10. Provide one (1) CTA E27 double sided electric sign box over sidewalk secured to entrance canopy framing with swivel pipe hangers. Coordinate final location with CTA Signage and Wayfinding Department. 11. Provide replacement and re-gasketing of light fixture lenses. Provide interior components to accept LED technology. 12. Prepare, prime and paint storefront steel to match existing. 13. Prepare, prime and paint stair structure. 14. Provide two (2) Stop No Entry signs at stairs. Coordinate with CTA Signage and Wayfinding. 15. Provide granite pavers at turnstile area (approximately 100 sq. ft.). 16. Prepare, prime and paint three (3) steel columns. 17. Provide six (6) LED wall mounted light fixture with concealed conduit. 18. Clean and polish all stainless steel surfaces including, but not limited to: kiosk, rotogates, full height barriers, utility room doors, elevator doors, light fixture enclosures. 19. Provide and install two (2) LED exit signs at grade level where shown on the drawings including conduit, wiring and connections. 20. Provide galvanized steel unistrut (channel legs faced down) with 3 clamps each at underside of east platform. Protect conduit during construction. 21. Powerwash interior/exterior masonry wall and glass and steel facade. Appendix 1: Page 3 of 9

4 3. New Work - Platform Level: 1. Provide wood treads and risers in existing steel structure at exit stair. Provide abrasive aluminum nosing at treads. 2. Provide ADA compliant 1 1/2 inch diameter welded stainless steel handrails with welded brackets at five (5) total stairs and one (1) bridge. 3. Provide galvanized corrugated metal roof deck at alley exit stair, 250 sq. ft. 4. Provide full height galvanized steel woven wire mesh with lock crimp panels at two (2) exit stair top landings. 5. Provide aluminum treads at one (1) transfer stair (platform to bridge). 6. Provide galvanized steel louvers at six (6) panels at transfer stair enclosure - approximately 200 sq. ft. total. 7. Provide continuous backer rod and sealant at all elevator panel joints. Prep, prime and paint all hoist frame steel cladding. 8. Provide three (3) galvanized steel grating panels to match existing; one adjacent to elevator at platform level and two (2) at stairs. See drawings for locations and verify sizes in the field. 9. Provide replacement and re-gasketing of light fixture lenses. Provide interior components to accept LED technology. 10. Provide refurbished wood planks at benches, re-paint all steel. 11. Prep, prime and paint trash receptacle to match existing. 12. Provide fiberglass clad plywood sandboxes per CTA specifications. 13. Provide two (2) CTA Station Identifier electric sign boxes secured to track structure. Coordinate final locations with CTA Signage and Wayfinding Department. 14. Polish stainless steel surfaces to include, but not limited to: windbreaks, rotogates, gap filler cases, elevator doors, light fixture enclosures (typical). 15. Provide and install new aluminum plate threshold at elevator doors. 16. Provide two (2) CTA E22 electric sign box with concealed conduit and power. Appendix 1: Page 4 of 9

5 17. Provide continuous sealant and backer rod between all panels where shown on drawings. 18. Prep, prime and paint elevator hoist framing and cladding panels; color as selected by CTA. 19. Provide and install new treated wood platform decking to match existing where required; approximately 10 sq. ft. 20. Relocate existing rotogate west to stair landing as shown on the drawings and secure to platform with thru-bolt connection. 21. Provide galvanized welded woven wire mesh barriers where shown on the drawings. Provide galvanized steel gate with wire mesh and hardware including continuous hinge. Provide wire mesh over rotogate. 22. Provide four (4) suspended electric exit sign boxes and power at platform level. 23. Power wash bridge slab and provide continuous sealant where slab meets perimeter plate. 24. Provide galvanized and painted steel angle (approximately 20 L.F.) railing to match existing. 25. Secure two (2) relocated stainless steel light fixtures to canopy with unistrut and clamps. 26. Provide two (2) 2 x2 x25 continuous steel angle rail where shown on the drawings. 27. Provide bends as required to handrail to avoid any interfering bolts where shown on the drawings 28. Cut, grind and smooth angle rail edges where shown on the drawings. C. All Division 1 Specifications from the base contract apply to this work order with additional revisions listed in Appendix 2 Section 1. II) General Requirements A. Utility Services 1. Maintain existing utilities indicated to remain in service and protect them against damage during selective demolition operations. Appendix 1: Page 5 of 9

6 2. Do not interrupt existing utilities serving occupied or operating facilities, except when authorized in writing by Authority and authorities having jurisdiction. Provide temporary services during interruptions to existing utilities, as acceptable to Authority and to governing authorities. 3. Provide not less than 72 hours' notice to Authority if shutdown of service is required during changeover. B. Utility Requirements: Locate, identify, disconnect, and seal or cap off indicated utility services serving building to be selectively demolished. 1. Arrange to shut off indicated utilities with utility companies. 2. Where utility services are required to be removed, relocated, or abandoned, provide bypass connections to maintain continuity of service to other parts of the building before proceeding with selective demolition. 3. Cut off pipe or conduit as required. Cap, valve, or plug and seal the remaining portion of pipe or conduit after bypassing. Utility Requirements: Refer to the respective sections of these specifications for shutting off, disconnecting, removing, and sealing or capping utility services. Do not start selective demolition work until utility disconnecting and sealing have been completed and verified in writing. C. Project Conditions 1. Contractor required to survey existing conditions to verify all existing dimensions and conditions, locations of items and construction sizes of items and including conditions and limitations under which he is to do his work. 2. Contractor required to locate all existing utilities and other improvements, including utilities not exposed to view. 3. There will be no extras allowed to compensate Contractor for his failure to review and verify existing conditions and dimensions. 4. Demolition work to adhere to phasing plans for the project. D. Regulatory Requirements 1. The Contractor must immediately notify the CTA of requirements in these Contract Documents, which do not strictly comply with the applicable laws, ordinances, and rules governing the work, before proceeding with that part of the work. Failure of the Contractor to do so shall be understood as an agreement on the part of the Contractor to guarantee compliance with the requirements of work covered by this Contract. 2. The Contractor is responsible for compliance with all regulatory and Appendix 1: Page 6 of 9

7 permitting agencies. E. Project Coordination 1. Contractor to provide a staging plan and safety plan for the Authority s approval prior to starting the work. Coordinate with the Authority and CDOT for staging areas and lane closure permits. 2. Contractor shall schedule and coordinate all work with the Authority. Contractor shall submit and obtain approval on a process plan and phasing plan for all the work, including demolition prior to commencing work on site. 3. Contractor to refer to and adhere to the Drawings, Specifications and other documents provided for this Project. 4. Provide notice for flagging of trains as required, all scheduling and approvals are by the Authority. 5. Coordinate and review the removal, relocation and/or reinstallation of electrical work and equipment, communication equipment, antennas and other specialty items with the Authority prior to beginning the work to maintain their functionality and avoid damage to the items or systems. Work may require re-routing utility lines as required to avoid the demolition and/or new construction. F. The work shall be conducted in a scheduled sequence of installation so as to ensure the maintenance of safe operations, not to render dangerous, and to provide the least possible disruption or interference to the CTA s operations. G. The work shall be performed under the schedule restrictions and working periods indicated in the Contract Documents. The work under this Contract shall not interfere in any way with the safe and timely operation of the CTA operations. H. No passenger stations will be closed, however tracks may be removed from service during the project, but only through the request of the contractor through the rail operations meetings. I. The GC shall immediately notify the CTA of requirements in these specifications and/or drawings, which do not strictly comply with the applicable laws, ordinances, and rules governing the work, before proceeding with that part of the work. Failure of the GC to do so shall be understood as an agreement on the part of the GC to guarantee compliance with the requirements of work covered by this Contract. III) Time Period Requirements A. 8 1. All Work will be authorized by one Notice to Proceed. 2. Milestones a. Milestone No. 1 Achieve Substantial Completion of all Work on or before 243 calendar days after NTP. 3. Punch List Work a. The GC is required to complete all Punch List Work within forty-five (45) calendar days after receipt of notice of Substantial Completion from the CTA. 4. Final Completion a. The GC is required to achieve Final Completion of the Work evidenced by receipt of a Certificate of Final Acceptance for all Work issued by the CTA within forty five days after completion of the punch list. IV) Construction Phase A. Track Access Occurrences 1. The CTA will provide no Track Access Occurrences under this work order. B. Constraints 1. Constraint No. 1 Flagging Shifts a. Requests for flaggers and/or infrastructure shifts must be made in writing to the CTA by Thursday at 1200 hrs for work scheduled the following week. b. Flagger Shifts As defined in Specification Section Part 1.06 A.9 shall not exceed one hundred fifty (150) occurrences. 2. Constraint No. 2 Infrastructure Shifts a. Infrastructure Shifts - As defined in Specification Section Part 1.06 A.10 shall not exceed twenty (20) occurrences. Appendix 1: Page 8 of 9

9 C. Liquidated Damages for Contractor Delay I) Clarifications 1. Contract Milestones a. Milestone No.1 Failure of the Contractor to achieve Milestone No. 1 by the prescribed day and time shall result in the assessment of Liquidated Damages in the amount of $2, per calendar day. b. Milestone No. 2 Failure of the contractor to achieve Milestone No. 2 by the prescribed day and time shall result in the assessment of Liquidated Damages in the amount of $2, per calendar day. A. Construction Clarifications 1. Temporary construction may be of non-permanent materials as allowed by code subject to City approval and maintenance by the Contractor for the duration of the Project.
