5 1. OVERVIEW 1.1 Introduction This report provides glue bond test results of 3-layer and 7-layer cross laminated timber (CLT) manufactured by Structurlam Products LP, Penticton, BC, Canada. The products are V2 grade using Douglas fir as top and bottom layers. The qualification tests were conducted at the APA Research Center in Tacoma, WA. The test data generated in this project will be used for glue bond qualification of CLT products (V2 grade using Douglas fir as top and bottom layers) manufactured by Structurlam Products LP, Penticton, BC, Canada. 1.2 Qualification Tests The CLT was evaluated for the following glue bond properties: Delamination: Glue bond delamination properties were evaluated in accordance with both ANSI A and CSA O Block Shear: Block shear tests were conducted in accordance with both ANSI A and CSA O MATERIAL DESCRIPTION Six CLT billets (three 3-layer and three 7-layer) were manufactured at Structurlam Products LP, Penticton, BC, Canada in September The production details are described in the report, as shown in Appendix A. The CLT billets were shipped to the APA Research Center in Tacoma, Washington after manufacture for moisture conditioning and testing in October Figure 1 is an illustration of the three orthogonal axes of the CLT billet. h L w Figure 1. 7 3.1.4 Results Individual test results are given in Appendix B. The average wood failure for 3-layer CLT was 89% which met the 80% requirement in Section of ANSI A and Section of CSA O The average wood failure of 7-layer CLT was 83% which met the 80% requirement in Section of ANSI A and 88% which met the 80% requirement in Section of CSA O Delamination ANSI Method Basis Section of ANSI A (AITC T110) Testing facility and condition After manufacturing, CLT billets were shipped to the APA Research Center, Tacoma, WA for delamination testing. The specimens were tested after moisture cycling Test Methods Moisture cycling followed AITC T110. Schematic specimen dimensions are shown in Figure 3. h L w Figure 3. Schematic specimen dimensions of delamination test (for illustration only) Results Individual test results are given in Appendix C. The delamination for both 3-layer and 7-layer CLT was 0%, which met the requirement of 5% average in Section of ANSI A APA Report No. T2016P-22 May 5, 2016 Page 6 of APA - The Engineered Wood Association

8 3.2.2 CSA Method Basis Section of CSA O Section of CSA O Testing facility and condition After manufacturing, CLT billets were shipped to the APA Research Center, Tacoma, WA for delamination testing. The specimens were tested after moisture cycling Test Methods Moisture cycling followed Section of CSA O Schematic specimen dimensions are shown in Figure Results Individual test results are given in Appendix D. The delamination for both 3-layer and 7-layer CLT was 0%, which met the requirement of 10% for a single bond line in Section of CSA O CONCLUSIONS The glue bond evaluation test data shows that the 3-layer and 7-layer CLT (V2 grade using Douglas fir as top and bottom layers) manufactured at Structurlam Products LP, Penticton, BC, Canada, met both ANSI A and CSA O requirements in accordance with ANSI/APA PRG 320.
