3 1 Main characteristics / Field of application SWARCO UV-LINE is a high quality, solvent-free one-component paint, which is cured by UV-light is instant trafficability after curing with UV-light. No time of blocking distinguishes itself by its excellent technical quality is suitable for indoors surfaces like concrete, synthetic flooring or similar surfaces. Because of its plain surface structure it is specially used at car parks and industrial buildings outstanding chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, durability and easy to clean caused by the high degree of cross-linking by UV-light curing in combination with SWARCO UV-LINE clearcoat improves the dirt pick-up and results in enhanced durability in strongly stressed concrete and synthetic floorings available for airspray and airless application, manual application possible (Roller), followed by curing with special UV-lamps 2 Technical Data Color white, other colors on request Density Approx kg/l +/- 0,04 kg/l Potlife Unlimited Curing time 1 2 seconds with DecoRad UV-Lamp UV Lamp Parameters Speed 6 m/min, lamp type B, width 20 cm Solid Content 100 % Solvent Content Solvent-free, No add-on of solvents for processing Condenser If required add SWARCO UV-LINE condenser Art.-No.: Storage stability 6 months in original packaging and protected from frost and direct sun light Drying time / Overroll ability Instantly after curing with DecoRad UV-Lamp Standard packaging tin container of 6 / 15 / 40 kg filling weight The regulations and instructions concerning appropriate transport, handling, storage, first aid Identification measures, toxicology and ecology are stated in our material safety data sheets! The instructions stated on the product label and in the MSDS must be followed. The difference between try and wet film thickness is caused by shrinkage during curing. * At low temperatures the adhesion of the marking to the ground can be negative affected caused by exceedance of the dew point. 4 3 Processing instructions 3.1 Training SWARCO UV-LINE products must be processed after training by staff of SWARCO LIMBURGER LACKFABRIK GmbH. This measure is necessary to prevent typical application errors that occurring by the handling of UV curing technology. Content of the training will be the right handling with UV-radiation and the technical characteristics of UV-curing paint compared with traditional paint systems. Every user gets a certificate after successful training and is authorized to applicate SWARCO UV-LINE products. 3.2 Colored paints SWARCO UV-LINE colored paints have a lower maximum curable thickness because of the pigmentation and must be handled differently in comparison to the standard color traffic white. Colored paints are curable up to a thickness of 120 µm. Due to the low layer thicknesses a base coat with SWARCO UV-LINE white or double layer application of the colored paint is needed to guarantee an opacity of the marking. 3.3 Preparation of material and application technique Before processing SWARCO UV-LINE paint must be homogenously stirred in its original container. The exact machine adjustments depend on application conditions, type of machine, requested wet film thickness and need to be made according to the machine manufacturer s instructions. Cleaning of machine (paint tank and hoses) and tools using a special cleaner for marking machines (Art.-No.: 3086) only. Avoid intermixing with other thinners or marking materials. 3.4 Optimizing of application properties SWARCO UV-LINE paint is ready for processing upon delivery. In general, it is not necessary to add thinner but for optimizing the material s spray properties add SWARCO UV-LINE condenser (Art.-No.: ). Use thinner recommended by the manufacturer only. Addition SWARCO UV-LINE condenser (Art.-No.: ) 0 % 1 % 3 % 5 % 10 % Flow time cup 6 mm 39 s 34 s 26 s 20 s 14 s 4 Surfaces / pretreatment 4.1 General Information The surface must be dry, clean, free from grease, oil and loose gravel and other contaminations. The surface and potentially existing old markings must be checked for their carrying capacity and compatibility with the material to be applied. In case of doubt, test applications and adhesion tests are required. Ideally, old markings should be removed with appropriate mechanical procedures. In case of need the ground can be primed with 2- component EP-Primer (Art.-No.: ) with a consumption of 0,10 0,30 kg/m² to increase the adhesive tensile strength. Attention: SWARCO UV-LINE is not suitable for large scale asphalt markings. Managing Director: Dr. Harald Guder 4/6

5 4.2 Concrete and cement-bound surfaces We recommend a ground pre-treatment with shot-blasting. The pavement components that prevent good bonding, especially on new concrete, including fine mortar layers, concrete slurries, concrete after-treatments as setting retarders, paraffin, impregnations on silicate basis etc. must be appropriately removed (e.g. with high pressure waterjet, fine millcut or similar). We recommend conducting test applications, in case of doubt communicate concerns in written form. 4.3 Bituminous surfaces Any loose components such as chippings must be removed. On new asphalt surfaces additives (flux oils, adherents etc.) are detrimental to good bonding of markings and can cause discolorations on marking paints. Since a mechanical removal is hardly possible a bonding check is required. In case of discoloration a second layer of SWARCO UV-LINE paint can be applied. 4.4 Cobbled pavement Natural, artificial and compound stone pavements are non-static surfaces. No guarantee is given in cases of: crack formation, chippings caused by the movement of pavement parts, poor marking bonding (e.g. natural or artificial stones), penetration of moisture, wear of marking. 4.5 Floor coatings Synthetic resin floor products usually consist of epoxy resins or polyurethane. They are differentiated into sanded and non-sanded coatings. Such coatings must be considered as critical surfaces. It is essential for a successful application of SWARCO UV-LINE paint that the floor is roughened with adequate means (e.g. blastrac, fine millcut or grinding). Due to the variety of different coatings we recommend conducting test applications and bonding checks and to check the coating s Technical Information, since the data sheets often provide valuable hints. 5 Application technique 5.1 Coating With conventional marking machines (airless or atomizing / airspray technique), manually with brush or roller. SWARCO UV-LINE must be homogeneously stirred in its original container! The exact machine adjustments depend on the application conditions, type of machine and need to be made according to the machine manufacturer s instructions. The optimal wet layer thickness is 150 µm for white and 120 µm for colored paints. This layer thickness guarantees a good cross linking, which yields to good mechanical and chemical resistance. After curing with UV-light of SWARCO UV-LINE paint a second layer of approx. 100 µm SWARCO UV-LINE clear varnish can be applied for an increase in abrasion resistance and reduction in dirt pick-up if needed. Attention: Machine-applied markings in car parks or factory facilities might not allow marking near walls for technical reasons. It is recommended to resolve whether the costly manual completion of the striping is required. The uniform spread of marking material over the entire application surface must be observed. 5.2 Curing with UV-Light After applying the marking is cured instantly with a DecoRad Floormate UV-lamp. The marking is cured with a speed of 6 m/min. Lamp type B with a width of 20 cm has to be used only. The Managing Director: Dr. Harald Guder 5/6

6 instruction of DecoRad according operator s handbook have to be considered. SWARCO UV- LINE products must be cured with DecoRad UV-Lamps only. Managing Director: Dr. Harald Guder 6/6
