1 Message from Superintendent Hickman On behalf of the Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) staff and members of the Governing Board, I extend my appreciation to the voters of our community, who have demonstrated their support for education over several years by approving overrides and bond elections. The Capital Outlay Override and the $53,100,000 Bond approved in November 2006 have been the cornerstone of our District s finances from The 15% Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Override approved in March of 2010 has kept programs and services to students at an acceptable level during the past three years and will again for school year A special thanks for the overwhelming support (64% favorable) in November 2012 for the $20.79 million bond. Through the approval of the overrides and bonds, our District has continued to provide the highest quality education for all of our students. It is essential that public education be operated with strong partnerships among schools, parents, and local communities. Elections such as those cited above are an opportunity for community members to express their beliefs and values. We are extremely proud and grateful that citizens of our community have continually demonstrated their support for public education. The commitment to our students, especially given the difficult economic times in our District, City, State, and Country says a lot about the priorities we have established. Our community has demonstrated a strong commitment to quality public education and a desire to assure that students from diversified backgrounds are all successful. The District is very careful about spending, but was especially careful to spend the 2006 bond money with citizen input. We are very proud of the improvements that have been made to our older facilities. The all-district report that follows illustrates by site how the funds have been utilized and is our report to you on the deployment of bond funds to the benefit of students. Barbara Hickman Superintendent
