3 For the past 30 years DLB has successfully completed over 20,000 projects of all sizes, varying scopes & encompassing many industries. DLB & RESIDENTIAL We are an agile, resource rich and results focused firm that provides any design team we are on with a huge edge. We consider each project to be an incredible opportunity to demonstrate this advantage. We love being heavily involved in the project from identifying the owner s true needs through construction and consider it our duty to be hands on to ensure the design is accurately implemented. No one will work harder during the design and construction phases than DLB. Our large resource pool includes over 100 engineers, each highly trained to operate in a differentiating way. DLB s prior investment in training & technology have made us more productive per hour than the industry. Consequently, DLB s fees are ultra competitive. DLB s depth and breadth of experience in every possible role of a project can be a real asset for all of your project needs, big or small. DLB s core culture combines hard work with a focus on training and technology, and this belief has enabled us to have a higher productivity per hour. This level of differentiation makes DLB and residential projects a winning combination. With DLB s experience and resources, we can fill many different roles on a residential project, from initial concept to final commissioning. DLB s strongest role is that of designer / owner advocate. as your consultant, we will work hands on with the design team, contractors and suppliers to ensure: Proper design & construction techniques are used. The final product is of the highest quality possible. Owners and designers achieve or exceed their project goals! DLB & RESIDENTIAL 1

4 RESIDENTIAL INDUSTRY OVERVIEW Traditional residential MEP system designs are largely contractor and vendor driven. Budgets do not typically include fees for professional consulting engineers. Additionally, there are no legal requirements for professional engineering participation in the residential design process. The resulting lack of professional engineering involvement in residential projects results in significant opportunities to improve the overall performance and value of the numerous systems. Integrating DLB into the design team at the beginning of a residential project can help realize these improvements and contribute to the overall success of the project. 5 MECHANICAL SOLUTIONS The ideal mechanical system is one that successfully addresses the specific concerns and needs of the homeowner. Design teams must be prepared to ADAPT and utilize recent advancements in technology and materials in order to provide ADDED VALUE and enhance the mission of the building. DLB can help fine tune the design at an early stage to address the various concerns and create a SUPERIOR overall product. Choosing the right system begins with correctly identifying the goals of the project. Once known, the type of system selected can serve to achieve these goals. Typical items of concern with mechanical systems include: Thermal Comfort Energy Efficiency Flexibility Budget DLB has the experience and expertise to specify the right system, select the correct equipment, design the optimum distribution system and verify that the installed performance meets spec. Additional expertise in zoning and controls can ensure that the system is operating at its maximum efficiency for a shorter Return On Investment (ROI) period. ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS Residential electrical systems are becoming more complex as our world increases its dependence on technology. The distribution system is the first priority of a good electrical design. Right sizing of the incoming service must be done with the future in mind and allow for flexibility and expansion. While codes dictate minimum required outlet locations, Owners and Designers determine the true needs to be designed for. Efficient fixtures can be controlled with sensors and circuiting to ensure maximum energy savings and owner control. Expert design of data networking can ensure that connections are strong and continuous. Among the most common concerns to address in these designs are: Potential for future expansion Customization of controls Energy efficiency Reliability A backup power generator system can be included to automatically provide continuous power in the event of a utility outage. Greater up front costs are often quickly recouped through the increased savings potential. DLB has the experience and expertise in electrical and controls design to help ensure that the project meets or exceeds goals and expectations. SOLUTIONS 3

6 PLUMBING SOLUTIONS Residential plumbing systems are usually fairly simple in design and installation. There are not many significant options of type or material. The performance, however, is as critical as with any system in a home. The need to provide immediate hot water can be solved through a piping solution by adding a recirculation loop. It can also be solved through selecting equipment such as instantaneous or point of use water heaters. Among the most common goals to achieve in these designs are: Providing adequate amounts of hot water Ensuring hot water is immediately available for use Energy efficiency Reliability Even with the simplest of systems, the key to a truly successful design begins with correctly identifying the goals of the owner. DLB prides itself on being able to do this and to effectively turn needs into solutions. ADDITIONAL ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS Due to our long history, great variety of expertise and wealth of experience, DLB can offer additional services that are not usually applied to a residential project. This empowers the designer to achieve all of the owner s goals and can greatly increase the quality of the project. Additional services that DLB can provide are: BIM Production Testing & Balancing Energy Analysis Acoustic Engineering Contractor Design Reviews Building Envelope Analysis Ventilation Specialty Systems / Projects ROI Evaluations 4 SOLUTIONS

7 NEW JERSEY HEADQUARTERS Our primary goal for our headquarters was to create the physical embodiment of the DLB culture. As with the processes utilized for our clients, tremendous attention to detail was paid to our needs and the result was a truly optimal environment that effortlessly integrates with the way we work. The New Jersey office is over 70,000 square feet and technologically advanced, with a heightened focus on learning, communication and collaboration. The design concepts of the headquarters were then carried through to our other offices, so our entire firm is able to operate as one virtual office in a seamless manner. This approach facilitates the ability to deliver brilliant results for our clients.
