2 Why choose STYROFOAM and XENERGY SL thermal insulation? Dow Building Solutions has decades of history in the construction industry, which began with the launch of our flagship STYROFOAM brand insulation in the 1940s - now the most well-known brand of extruded foamed polystyrene insulation. XENERGY SL has attained a coveted Green Guide Rating A+ by BREEAM and continue to offer insulation that enables construction of energy efficient buildings. XENERGY SL and FLOORMATE are endorsed by the British Board of Agrément (BBA), which provides a recognised symbol of quality and reassurance for the construction industry. XENERGY SL was launched to meet demand from architects and specifiers for a product with improved thermal performance of inverted roof insulation. Our STYROFOAM products were the first extruded polystyrene (XPS) to be made in the UK with carbon dioxide as the blowing agent, giving them a global warming potential (GWP) of less than five. XENERGY SL offers a reduction of up to 4mW of thermal conductivity in various thicknesses and an 11% improved insulation performance compared with ROOFMATE SL-A. CERTIFICATE CERTIFICATE STYROFOAM : durable, reliable, strong Extrusion of foamed polystyrene results in a material that has uniformly small, closed cells and a smooth surface skin. This produces a set of properties which is not commonly found in one package. These are the top five reasons for choosing STYROFOAM : 1 Excellent customer service and technical advice 2 Good thermal conductivity 3 Single extruded thicknesses up to 200mm 4 Proven long term moisture resistance 5 High compressive strength with robust mechanical performance STYROFOAM construction products are CE marked and certifications include: ISO 14001:2004, BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and BS EN 13164:2012. XENERGY SL the new standard Significantly improved lambda values with up to 11% better insulation performance. +11% λ W/m.K This short guide provides: --A reminder of the key benefits of STYROFOAM thermal insulation. --A product overview. --Contact details for placing orders. --Delivery and transport advice. --Where to get more information. pg 2 Trademark of The Dow Chemical Company ( DOW ) or an affiliated company

3 Product overview STYROFOAM and XENERGY thermal insulation products are available in a number of different grades designed to meet the performance requirements of specific applications. FLOORMATE for flooring FLOORMATE is the STYROFOAM product for insulating floors, and is designed for ground-bearing concrete floors and suspended floors e.g. beam and block. The product range includes FLOORMATE 300, FLOORMATE 500 and FLOORMATE 700. Because it resists moisture and has high compressive strength, FLOORMATE is ideal for below-slab insulation. Including a layer of thermal insulation in a floor construction continuous with that in the rest of the building envelope helps to reduce heat loss and avoid thermal bridges. XENERGY SL, XENERGY LG for inverted flat roofs XENERGY SL is used in inverted flat roofs where insulation is applied above the waterproof membrane and ballasted. The boards are intended for use on heavyweight decks (e.g. reinforced concrete) with a ballast layer of gravel or concrete slabs. They have resistance to water absorption, high compressive strength and ability to withstand repeated freeze-thaw cycles, making them a good choice for inverted flat roofs. XENERGY SL can also be used with the XENERGY MK membrane, which is designed to minimise the heat loss due to rainwater cooling and therefore reduce the amount of insulation required. XENERGY LG insulation boards with an integral 10mm thick mortar topping are suited to parapet insulation. PERIMATE DI for below-ground structures PERIMATE DI is the STYROFOAM product for externally insulating basement walls. Its ship-lapped edges ensure continuity of insulation, whilst vertical channels cut into the face of the board allow water to drain away. A geotextile bonded to the board s outer surface helps prevent soil particles from blocking the channels. XENERGY MK XENERGY MK system helps to minimize the heat loss due to rainwater cooling and therefore the amount of insulation required. Its rot resistance also makes it ideal for insulating green roofs. pg 3

8 Recommendations STYROFOAM products include XENERGY, FLOORMATE and PERIMATE. XENERGY products contain a flame retardant additive to inhibit accidental ignition from a small fire source. XENERGY is however, combustible and if exposed to an intensive fire may burn rapidly. During shipment, storage, installation and use XENERGY products should not be exposed to flames or other ignition sources. Fire classification is based on small scale tests, which may not reflect the reaction of the products in its end use state under actual fire conditions. XENERGY products should, when installed, be adequately protected from direct exposure to fire. Recommendations about the methods, use of materials and construction details are given as a service to designers and contractors. These are based on the experience of Dow with the use of XENERGY products. Any drawings offered by Dow are meant only to illustrate various possible applications and should not be taken as a basis for design. Since Dow is a materials supplier and exercises no control over the installation of XENERGY products, no responsibility is accepted for such drawings and recommendations. In particular, no responsibility is accepted by Dow for the systems in which XENERGY products are used or the method of application by which they are installed.
