System Costructio ad Applicatio Details: Deck The plywood deck was costructed with stadard 2 X 6 framig members, spaced 24 iches apart ad 15/32 ich thick 4 ply APA 32/16 spa rated sheathig. The sheathig was attached with 8d commo ails placed 6 iches o ceter at the edges ad 12 iches o ceter at itermediate supports. Tile/Ridge Achor Istallatio Details Six tiles were selected ad weighed. Six foot sectios of Da's Custom Sheet Metal 26 gauge Stadard Ridge Achor, 6 iches high, were mouted to the test deck with 1-1/2 x 3/8 ich head screws placed sixtee iches o ceter, two iches from the edge of the fasteig flage. OSI, RT-6 Roof Tile Adhesive was placed i two locatios. The first, a 1 gram paddy was placed o the metal ridge as to allow the mechaical fasteer to peetrate durig tile istallatio. A secod 1 gram, Y4x 8 ich strip of the adhesive was placed at the head of the tile ad extedig across the etire lap area of the tile. I additio to the adhesive, the tile was mouted to the ridge metal with a #1 x 2" course threaded screw which was placed i the factory drilled hole at the head of tile. The mechaical tile fasteer was drive through the RT-6 ad peetrated the ridge achor. Coditioig The deck was tested four days after applicatio. The crosshead speed of the testig machie was set to 1. ich per miute. Each test tile was loaded cotiuously. Durig the test the applied load was moitored i order to determie the maximum load obtaiable to cause ultimate failure of the tile or tile attachmet. Ultimate failure was recorded as the maximum load resisted by the system. Ultimate loads were achieved before the ose of the tile was deflected 2 iches. The test temperature was 8 degrees Fahreheit. The allowable overturig momet for the tile is the sum of the fasteig system's cotributio plus the resistig momet provided by the dead weight of the tile. Sectio 27.3: The fasteig system's cotributio to the allowable overturig momet for the tile shall be the result of the lowest failure overturig momet determied by the criteria for that specific istallatio system mius the resistig momet provided by the dead weight of the tile. The allowable overturig momet for the tile is the sum of the fasteig system's cotributio plus the resistig momet provided by the dead weight of the tile. Sectio 46: FAILURE CRITERIA: Failure of the tile's fixig shall be cosidered as the load required to cause deflectio without a icrease i the load or separatio of the system. A adhesive system shall use the failure criteria of this sectio ad Sectio 46. I order to determie the allowable overturig momet (Ma), the average failure overturig momet (Mf) ad the resistig momet (Mg) must be summed about a sigle poit, the axis of rotatio of the tile. This axis was assumed ad observed to be about the head of the tile where it was i cotact with the deck. The results were determied i accordace with the mathematical istructios foud i SBCCI SSTD Sectio 27. The data collected durig the test alog with the calculatios have bee compiled ito a summary sheet, i the Appedix. A photograph of the test assembly ca be foud i the Appedix. It should be oted that SBCCI SSTD does ot specifically address co-joied tile, ie. tiles attached to the ridge as well as to the uderlyig tile course. Based o the egieerig cosideratio preseted by this situatio, the resultat allowable overturig momet (average ad low) is divided by two, oce as required by the stadard ad the a secod time to compesate for the two tiles which are co-joied. The iterpretatio for co-joied tile was validated by Gary Nichols of SBCCI. This method of aalysis for cojoied tile systems is also used by Metro-Dade, Florida. 11 Da's Custom Sheet Metal Hip ad Ridge Assembly Page 11 of9 Static Uplift Test Apparatus The test apparatus cosists of a rigid steel frame, Istro screw jack mechaism to drive the tester, ad a calibrated DyaLyk 5 poud load cell capable of.1 percet full-scale resolutio. The load cell was attached to the rigid steel frame ad to the sample with a chai likage usig eyebolts, chai ad heavy-duty pulleys. The test specime was attached to the load cell usig a slotted liftig grip positioed uder the head of the load trasfer device. The deck was positioed uder the rigid steel frame at a slope of iches per foot. The load was applied at 1 ich per miute vertically with respect to the floor.
