5 Bed bases (spring upholstered) 1 Scope 1.1 This specification covers the requirements for two types of spring-upholstered bed bases intended for domestic use with the relevant compatible sizes of innerspring mattresses for adults (see applicable standard). Amdt 3 NOTE a) The standards referred to in the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser are listed in appendix B. c) Guidance on the verification of the quality of spring- upholstered bed bases produced to this specification is given in appendix C. 2 Definitions 2.1 For the purposes of this specification the following definitions shall apply: acceptable acceptable to the authority administering this standard, or to the parties concluding the purchase contract, as relevant Amdt 1 bed base spring-upholstered support system (excluding a headboard) for a bed mattress spring system unit sum total of all steel components used within the bed base and designed to offer spring resistance to downward forces applied perpendicular to the top surface of the bed-base chipfoam composite material that consists of chips of flexible polyurethane foam (of the polyether or the polyester type or of a mixture of these types) held together by means of a suitable binder polyurethane foam cellular material produced by the reaction of a polyol with an organic polyisocyanate in the presence of water, and that may include catalysts, surface active agents, auxiliary blowing agents, fillers, plasticizers, colorants and any other additives that do not adversely affect the properties of the foam 3
