INTRODUCING OUR HERITAGE PERIOD RANGE We have an appreciation for the beauty of older properties and understand your wish to retain this when replacing windows. Selecting new windows for your property can be challenging in conservation areas and for listed buildings. Your highest priority is to retain the character and charm of your property and meet the essential requirements in terms of planning permission. Our Heritage range allows you to maintain the original architecture, design and appearance of your home whilst enjoying increased performance and security. 4

TRADITIONAL FORM AND PERFECT FUNCTION Our Heritage windows combine traditional period beauty with modern functionality, improving the operation of your windows greatly while allowing for easy cleaning and maintenance. Our production capabilities at Rowan Manufacturing are diverse. We can take any existing traditional window and re-create it. Windows appear no different from those you are replacing with huge benefits of modern technology and safety features. In certain cases, we can maintain the appearance of the traditional box sash window, while encompassing hinge geometry for ease of handling and child proof restrictors for security. Concealed hinges give them simple beauty and reversible function for easy cleaning. Our production capability is as wide as the imagination of the original architects and designers with a huge variation in style of box and sliding sash windows. We create windows using the same design, specification and skill as the original craftsmen, making highly functional windows that retain their elegance. The difference you will find is in the present day comforts of modern draught seals and security fittings. Together they have the security, energy efficiency and performance of modern windows. 5

LISTED BUILDINGS AND PLANNING CONSENT Owners of traditional properties and listed buildings often require planning permission to replace windows under guidelines set out by Historic Scotland or English Heritage. Rowan Manufacturing can help you gain approval for your window project prior to manufacture. Our experts will work with you to ensure you are abiding by all relevant regulation. Where necessary, supplying you with architectural drawings you may be required to submit for permission. 7

WHY CHOOSE OUR HERITAGE PERIOD WINDOWS FOR YOUR PROJECT? Single glazed windows lose heat rapidly. By upgrading to our Heritage Period windows, you can retain the traditional appearance of your building s external façade while reducing heat loss and saving money on energy bills. Toughened, laminated or a combination of both glass can be used to give you an even more secure and thermally efficient window. 8

WINDOW SPECIFICATION AND MATERIALS Our windows are manufactured from laminated Redwood, ethically sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forests. We also fully comply with the (PEFC) Endorsement of Forest Certification Programme. Timbers Timbers are Engineered Redwood treated, unless otherwise requested (excluding glazing beads, glazing astragals & sole materials). Glazing beads, astragals & sole material are manufactured in FSC Utile Hardwood. Glazing Our windows are manufactured using a low emissivity glass creating the lowest U values available for the inner pane. The outer pane can be chosen from a variety of options to suit your needs: Patterned glass for privacy. Solar control and Low iron glass to prevent excessive heat build-up reducing the need for costly air conditioning or blinds. Bio-Clean Glass, a self-cleaning glass for low maintenance. 11 TECHNICALITIES GLAZING TECHNOLOGY FOR PERIOD WINDOWS THE INTRICACIES Matching the visible sightlines on new windows against old windows used to be the biggest challenge for any manufacturer. In the past, the thermal efficiency of the glass was compromised for narrow sightlines. However, the advances in slimline glazing technology and Rowan Manufacturing s expertise means this is now possible. Depending on the design of your window and the sightlines required, a narrow cavity of 6-10mm can be created ensuring peak performance of the thermally insulated framework while aligning sightlines perfectly. These units are manufactured using a soft coat low emissivity glass with the lowest U values available for the inner pane. The outer pane can be chosen from a variety of options, such as: Patterned glass - for style or privacy. Solar control & Low iron glass - to prevent excessive heat build-up in high temperatures, keeping interiors more comfortable. This is possible through a microscopically thin coating on one side of the glass that reflects heat from the sun to the outside; therefore helping to prevent overheating in large areas of glazing, and also reducing glare from direct sunlight. Bio-Clean glass - a low-maintenance self-cleaning glass, manufactured by depositing a transparent layer of photocatalytic and hydrophilic mineral material onto clear glass. The coating is integrated into the glass, and ensures a high level of durability. The mechanical, thermal and acoustic properties of the glass are identical to normal glass. 11
