ABSTRACT Now-a-days plastic waste was become a major and serious problem and these are burnt for apparent disposal which causes environmental pollution. Utilization of these waste material like plastic bags in bituminous mixes to prove the enhance of properties of mix in addition to solving disposal problems. First, waste plastic like bottles, plastic glasses were used to cleaned and cutted into pieces. This pieces were added to the hot bitumen and heated up to 160 degree centigrade. And also heating up the course aggregate up to 150 degree centigrade. And resultant mix was used in the flexible road construction. It also increases the road life and also as well as help in decrease of pollution to the environment. roads are very useful in the India climatic conditions of extreme heat and humid climate. By using of these type of plastic waste in the construction of pavement can increase the strength, durability etc. The methodology of using waste plastic in bituminous mix are done by using various tests on aggregates and bitumen. Key words: Pollution, Glasses, Bottles. Cite this Article: V.Rushendrareddy, T.Surendra and B.Rahul Use of Waste In Flexible Pavements. INTRODUCTION means the material which contains one or more organic polymers of large molecular weight. And it was shaped by its flow. These are durable and degradablee in the soil slowly these are divided into two major categories: Thermoses and thermoplastics. A thermosets solidifies or sets irreversibly when heated. They are useful for the durability and strength which are primarily used in automobiles and construction applications. These plastics are polyethylene, polyimide etc. A thermoplastics were softens when exposed to heat and returns to the original condition at room temperature. Thermoplastics can easily shaped and moulded into products such as milk jugs, floor coverings, carpet fibres etc. These plastic types are editor@iaeme.com

2 Use of Waste In Flexible Pavements known as phenolic, melamine, unsaturated polyester, and polyurethane. In recent studies, plastic can unchanged for as long as 4000 years on earth which increases the global pollution and rising the demand of food and other essentials, these are realised by the households and 5% in municipal solid waste every day. It was common in the urban and rural areas in which usage of plastic bags were more and throw it on road and drains which make pollution. These type of experiments were done by many research groups etc. when plastic was added to the hot aggregate on will be coated around the aggregate and when it is mixed with the binder founded to give higher strength, higher resistance of water and better performance over a period of time. Waste plastics such as carry bags, disposable waste and chip pouches, packing material etc. Use of plastic in the road construction with the bitumen not only increases its life but also economically sound and environmental friendly. waste are used as a modifier of bitumen to improve the some of the bitumen properties. Roads that are constructed using plastic called plastic roads. Performs better when compared to common bituminous road. It founds that roads which are not striping at the time of contact of water. Using of higher percentage if plastic decreases the usage of bitumen by 10%. It also increases the strength and performance of the road. will increases the melting point of the bitumen. According to professor of Chennai university says plastic replaces 10%-15% of bitumen and saves about to Rs per kilometre of road stretch. Usage of plastic decrease the plastic shrinkage and cracking of roads and reduces the drying shrinkage to some extent. Use of plastic waste helps in sustain improving the aberration and slip resistance of flexible pavements. In hot and humid climates durable and eco-friendly plastic roads are of greatest advantage. It is also useful to decrease the all type of plastic waste on earth. 2. LITERATURE REVIEWS The plastic was using in the construction of flexible pavements was done from several years ago in India. Using of plastic will give more strength to bitumen as well as to aggregate also, Proff C.E.G.jesto were also said or states that by mixing plastic to bitumen it give more strength, life and properties of bitumen was improves. Many of done research on plastic bitumen and stated that utilization of plastic will improves the water resistance and reduces stripping from aggregate. In construction of flexible pavements aggregate plays a vital role(see Figure 1)Aggregates was selected by grading and sieving. And mixed with Hot bitumen. Principle load supporting components are aggregates in the bitumen mix. Fine aggregate that generally retain on mm sieve, course aggregate are which retained through 2.36mm sieve and fly ash filler are the aggregate the one which pass through mm sieve. 3 V.Rushendrareddy, T.Surendra and B.Rahul Well binders in the pavement construction are bitumen. And it also a one of major construction material of pavements. The main property of bitumen was which has binding property and softens on heating. Refer (Figure2). Figure 2 of grade 80/100 A chemical structure which generally known as polymers backbone Thermoplastic and Thermosetting polymers are two types of plastics. known as. Figure 3 plastic specimens It has also a property as bitumen was it binds when heated. So we plastic as an effective binder in the bitumen. (Refer Figure 3) can use the waste 3. PREPARATION OF DESIGN MIX was the good binder in the road construction. It has oily nature and viscos material. mix aims the proportion of bitumen, filler, fine aggregates, and coarse aggregates to produce the workable, strong, durable, and economical. The requirements of mix design and two major states of mix design that is dry mix and wet mix are designed. The fine aggregate should be passed in 600mm sieve and should retain on 75mm sieve by using this grade of fine aggregate used to fill the voids in course aggregate. grade was 80/ PROCEDURE 1. First bitumen was taken of grade 80/100 and heated upto c and then aggregate mix was taken and heated upto c. 2. Take waste plastic like bottles etc., and cutted into small pieces and heat with bitumen so that plastic will dissolve in the bitumen editor@iaeme.com

4 Use of Waste In Flexible Pavements 3. Mix the bituminous plastic and aggregate at c and taken into the moulds and tampered 75 blows on both sides. 5. And then keep the specimen along for 24 hours and do specific gravity test followed by Marshall stability tastes. 6. Prepared as above is weighed in air and the average diameter and thickness of the cylindrical specimen is obtained by taking measurements at three or four locations of the specimen. 7. The volume of the each specimen is calculated from the average diameter and thickness values by using below test machine on figure 4. Figure 4 Marshall testing machine 5. This helps to have a better binding of bitumen waste plastic and aggregate due to increased bonding and increased area of contact between polymers and bitumen. The mix also reduces the voids. This prevents the moisture absorption and oxidation of bitumen by entrapped air. Results reducing rutting, raveling and there is no pothole formation. The roads can withstand heavy traffic and show better durability. REFERENCES Figure 9 Variation of bulk density [1] Yash Menaria,(2015), Use of Waste in Flexible Pavements-Green Roads Journal.
