1 Product Data Sheet Edition 25/07/2013 Identification no: part polymer modified flexible cement mortar for self-levelling floor screeds from 1 to 5 mm Product Description is a two part, reactive hybrid resin modified, flexible cementitious mortar for self-levelling floor screeds in thin layers of 1 to 5 mm. It comprises a base / liquid and a hardener / powder component which must be mixed just before use and then applied immediately. Uses As a flexible levelling compound for surface renovation and for covering new or worn and cracked concrete, asphalt and steel surfaces, etc. It is intended for use on floors in industry, housing, agriculture, shipping, etc. Its flexible properties combine wearresistance and comfort in thin layers of 1 5 mm. It is a universal product within the HyCem product range *, designed for application on cementitious, bituminous, ceramic or metallic substrates, and which can be used as: Self-levelling screed Adhesive Formation of a vapour barrier Repair material and Protective coating Extended with quartz sand, as a patching and repair mortar: Under Epoxy, Polyurethane and PMMA floor coatings / screeds Suitable for moisture control (Principle 2, method 2.3 of EN ) Suitable for physical resistance (Principle 5, method 5.1 of EN ) Suitable for increasing resistivity (Principle 8, method 8.3 of EN ) * See Notes on Application / Limitations Characteristics / Advantages Excellent adhesion to a variety of surfaces, including freshly laid concrete and ceramic tiles, in addition to worn and cracked concrete, asphalt and steel. 4 System Information System Structure The system configuration as described must be fully complied with and may not be changed. Application Details Consumption / Dosage Sikafloor -Primer MRW ~ kg/m 2 dependent on the substrate conditions, when repairing monolithic or vacuum concrete, or without a broadcast finish or when Sikafloor -40/-42/ HyCem is over coated with itself. Self-levelling screed: Sikafloor -40/-42/ HyCem ~ 1.85 kg/m 2 /mm in a 1 5 mm thick screed. ~ 5.5 kg/ m 2 for application with a 5 mm V-notch trowel for a nominal 2.0 mm screed These figures are theoretical and do not allow for any additional material due to surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level or waste, etc. 4 4/4
5 Substrate Quality Substrate Preparation Concrete that is only one day old, or is damp or alkaline, does not pose a problem. Ceramic tiles, natural stone, terrazzo, bitumen surfaces, plaster, wood and steel surfaces are all acceptable. The concrete substrate must be sound and of sufficient compressive strength (minimum 25 N/mm 2 ) with a minimum pull off strength of 1.5 N/mm 2. For applications onto green concrete (1 14 days) old the substrate must have reached at least 8 10 N/mm 2, and must have a minimum design strength of C25 The substrate can be damp but must be free of loose material, laitance, dust, standing water and free of all contaminants such as oil, grease, coatings and surface treatments etc. If in doubt, apply a test area first. Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and achieve an open textured surface. Weak concrete must be removed and surface defects such as blow holes and voids must be fully exposed. Repairs to the substrate, filling of blowholes/voids and surface levelling must be carried out using appropriate products from the Sikafloor, SikaDur and Sikagard range of materials. can be used to cover local irregularities up to 5 mm, as well as cracks of the same width. High spots can be removed by grinding. All dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces before application of the product, preferably by brush or vacuum. The substrate must be thoroughly primed with Sikafloor -Primer MRW to avoid the formation of pores and pin-holes in the compound as a result of very porous surfaces absorbing the binder from the compound too quickly. The substrate and uncured floor temperature must be at least 3 C above the dew point to reduce the risk of condensation or blooming on the floor finish. Application Instructions Mixing Mixing Time Mixing Tools Part A : part B - packing size: (4: 12 kg) or 6.67 : 20 kg Flooring Screed: 1 : 3.0 (by weight) Extended mortar mix. Repair mortar: To repair surface irregularities and holes 3 to 5 cm in diameter and deeper than 5 mm and up to 10 mm the standard mix can be extended with dry and clean quartz sand ( mm) up to150% by weight Prior to mixing, shake part A (white liquid) briefly until homogenous and free from bottom sediment. Then pour into an clean empty container and gradually add part B (powder) into the liquid while stirring with a power mixer. Mix thoroughly for 1 2 minutes until a uniform mix has been achieved. Let the mix remain in the container for 3 5 minutes until the bubbles on the top of the mix are released. Pour on the floor within 15 minutes at 20ºC. Never add the liquid on to the powder. When dosing with additional aggregates, add them after adding part B to the mix. Mix using a slow speed electric mixer ( rpm) with helical paddle or other suitable equipment. Recommended are single or counter rotating double mortar (basket type) and forced action (pan type) mixers. Free fall mixers must not be used. 5 5/5
6 Application Method / Tools Cleaning of Tools Potlife Place mixed onto the primed substrate within 15 minutes of mixing and spread evenly to the required thickness uniformly with a rubber or metal trowel, spatula or adjustable rake and immediately roll with a spike roller to remove entrapped air and obtain an even thickness layer. To avoid stripes from the rake, smooth the wet surface with a metal spiked roller or smoothing trowel. Do not use additional water, which would disturb the surface finish and cause discolouration. A seamless finish can be achieved if a wet edge is maintained during application. To avoid too quick a hardening, or early shrinkage, do not work in direct sunshine or draught. Allow to cure overnight with good ventilation. For outdoor use: to avoid shrinkage cracks do not apply each coat thicker than maximum 1 mm, because of fast drying caused by wind and high temperatures. Clean all tools and application equipment with warm water immediately after use. Hardened / cured material can only be removed mechanically. 7 +20 C +30 C 1 day 1 day Note: It is advised to prime with Sikafloor Primer MRW over each successive coat of to ensure no pinholes appear, and allowing at least the minimum times indicated above between applications. Times are approximate at 50% r.h. and will be affected by changing ambient and substrate conditions, particularly temperature and relative humidity. Notes on Application / Limitations Always ensure good ventilation when using in a confined space to remove excess moisture. Contains cement. Please take the necessary precautions when handling irritant substances. Please refer to the Material Safety Datasheet. Freshly applied must be protected from damp, condensation and water for at least 24 hours. Apply primer and on a falling temperature. If applied during rising temperatures pin holing can occur. Prevent premature drying by protecting from strong wind and do not expose to direct sun light while fresh. Applications under extreme conditions (high temperature and low humidity) which can cause fast drying of the product must be avoided as the product does not allow the use of curing compounds. Under no circumstances add water to the mix. Colour variations can occur on unsealed through variations in thickness, drying speeds, draughts, exposure to direct sun light,etc, just like all cement based screeds. This however, will not adversely influence the mechanical properties. When overlaying with PMMA screeds, the surface of must be fully broadcast with sand mm. Cleaning / Maintenance Methods Due to the texture of its surface, is not suitable to be used as wearing layer where easy staining can occur. A seal coat of the Sikafloor range with suitable cleaning capabilities is advisable. Remove dirt using a brush and/or vacuum. Do not use wet cleaning methods until the product is fully cured. Do not use abrasive methods or cleaners. Value Base All technical data stated in this Product Data Sheet are based on laboratory tests.
