Replace materials that are damaged during installation as directed..4 Set units level, plumb, and true to line, with uniform joints. 6 January, 2017 Page 6 of 7 thermal barrier SILL INSTALLATION.1 Install metal sills with uniform wash to exterior, level in length, straight in alignment with plumb upstands and faces. Use one piece lengths at each location..2 Cut sills 50 mm longer than window opening..3 Secure sills in place with anchoring devices located at ends and evenly spaced 600 mm on centre in between..4 Maintain 6 to 9 mm space between butt ends of continuous sills. For sills over 1200 mm in length, maintain 3 to 6 mm space at each end FIELD QUALITY CONTROL.1 After completion of installation and nominal curing of sealant and glazing compounds, but before installation of exterior cladding and finishes, test 10% of installed windows (but not less than 4 windows) for water leaks in compliance with CSA-A440. Testing area to include: window sill, jamb(s) and head; completed window buck assembly with all membraning on exterior correctly lapped onto exterior sheathing; all pertinent sealants complete with backer rods; interior air/vapour membranes and any additional components which comprise the air and moisture barriers as directed by the consultant..2 Testing will be carried out at locations of window installation as selected by building envelope consultant. Failure of tested location will require additional testing to the failed location after repairs have been completed in addition to the testing of new locations. On-site field testing will continue until all tested areas meet the performance criteria and to the satisfaction of the independent building envelope consultant. Testing repairs and retesting are at the expense of the window wall manufacturer and/or contractor, and shall not be at the expense of the owner..3 In-situ performance requirements.1 Windows: Performance criteria, to CAN A440:.1 Air infiltration = A3.2 Water infiltration = B7.3 Wind load resistance: C5.4 Thermal resistance = U value 0.43 in accordance with AAMA Frame condensation resistance I = CAULKING.1 Seal joints between windows and window sills with sealant. Bed sill expansion joint cover plates and drip deflectors in bedding compound. Caulk between sill upstand and window-frame. Caulk butt joints in continuous sills..2 Apply sealant in accordance with Section Joint Sealing 3.06 CLEANING.1 Clean completed system in compliance with manufacturer s recommendations, inside

Remove excess glazing and joint sealants, dirt, and other substances from finished surfaces promptly after erection..2 Remove protective material from prefinished surfaces..3 Wash down exposed surfaces using a solution of mild detergent in warm water applied with soft, clean wiping cloths. Take care to remove dirt from corners. Wipe surfaces clean..4 Remove excess sealant by moderate use of mineral spirits, or other solvent acceptable to sealant manufacturer PROTECTION.1 Institute protective measures and other precautions needed to assure Work will be without damage or deterioration, other than normal weathering, at time of acceptance.
