3 3. MAJOR PROJECTS 3.1. SLOPE STABILITY MOUNT HOSPITAL PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA Geotechnical engineer involved in conducting and reporting on the annual geotechnical inspections of the slope and associated structures at the rear of the Mount Hospital complex. The Mount Hospital is located at the base of the eastern end of the Mount Eliza Escarpment which consists of very steep slopes (approximately 45 degrees) located between the hospital and Kings Park. Due to the very steep slopes with outcropping limestone with minimal vegetation, annual inspections were conducted to assess the stability of the slope. Recommendations including remedial works to stabilise the slope and monitoring requirements were provided. RESIDENTIAL UNITS SOUTH PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA Geotechnical engineer involved in the geotechnical study, interpretation and analysis of the existing slope at the rear of the residential units. The residential units are located at the crest of a relatively steep slope which had been subject to creep movement over the previous years. A slope stability assessment was undertaken to assess the stability of the current slope and the impact on the residential units. Design and analysis of remedial options including retaining walls were undertaken. A major constraint on the project was access, and not being able to access or conduct works along the slope. Project management and construction support was provided during installation of the retention system, to retain the slope and to deliver the desired solution to the residents COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENTS COCKBURN COMMERCIAL PARK BIBRA LAKE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA Geotechnical engineer involved in the geotechnical study and part of the project team for a commercial development. A portion of the site was located on an infilled deep excavation (containing uncontrolled fill material greater than 11 m depth), formally a sand quarry. Conducted investigations to assess the extent, depth and composition of the uncontrolled fill material including compaction and screening trials. Provided recommendations on ground improvement techniques, and remedial measures to achieve lots with a Class A site classification where extent of uncontrolled fill was minimal. Provided earthworks verification and construction support during the earthworks, which included deep compaction of the uncontrolled fill material using dynamic compaction techniques along with standard earthworks equipment. ATWELL ARCADE REDEVELOPMENT FREMANTLE, WESTERN AUSTRALIA Geotechnical engineer for the redevelopment of a heritage listed structure in Fremantle. The redevelopment comprised a four storey building with a basement car park. Some of the constraints during the works included a reduced investigation and reporting timeframe, conducting the investigation in stages throughout demolition works and access constraints to the site through a laneway with limited headroom. Works also included underpinning of the heritage façade and sensitive structures, a piled permanent retention structure around the periphery of the basement and piles for founding the structural columns, while the existing shopfronts continued operating. Page 3 ABN:
