1 INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PLUMBING AND MECHANICAL OFFICIALS IAPMO GUIDE CRITERIA FOR GLASS LAVATORIES, SINKS AND COUNTER TOPS IAPMO IGC PURPOSE 1.1 The purpose of this standard is to establish a generally acceptable standard for glass lavatories, sinks and counter tops. Its purpose is to serve as a guide for producers, distributors, architects, engineers, contractors, installers, inspectors and users; to promote understanding regarding design, materials, manufacturing and installation; and to provide for identifying of glass lavatories, sinks and counter tops. 2. SCOPE 2.1 This standard covers performance test requirements and marking requirements for glass lavatories, sinks and counter tops. The provisions of the standard are not intended to prevent the use of any alternate design, assembly configuration, method or material, provided any such alternate meets the performance and minimum specification criteria outlined herein. 3. 2 4. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Plumbing Fixture Fittings. When provided by the manufacturer, the fittings shall comply with the requirements of ASME A /CSA B Waste Fittings. When provided by the manufacturer, the waste fittings shall comply with the requirements of ASME A /CSA B Lavatory Overflow. When provided by the manufacturer, the lavatory overflows shall comply with the requirements in Section entitled Overflows of ASME A /CSA B Punchings. When provided, faucet mounting holes shall comply with the requirements in Section entitled Punchings Openings and mounting surfaces for supply fittings of ASME A /CSA B45.1 for lavatories or Section 3.5 entitled Punchings of ASME A for sinks. 4.5 Outlet. Lavatories shall have an outlet opening diameter of 1-3/4 ± 1/8. Kitchen sinks outlet shall comply with Section 3.4(a) 4.4 in ASME A /CSA B Supporting Structure. The coated metal and plastic supporting structures shall comply with the coating requirements of ASME A /CSA B Supporting structures manufactured from glass material, shall comply with the testing requirements in Section 5 of this standard. 4.7 Lavatory or Sink Assemblies. Lavatory or sink and supporting structure shall comply with the testing requirements in Section 5.7 of this standard Plumbing fixtures manufactured from material other than glass shall comply with the applicable requirements within the corresponding ASME A112 standard. 4.8 Sink Basket. When provided by manufacturer, sink basket shall be manufactured from 304 Stainless Steel complying with ASTM A 240 and coated and shall be subjected for 24 hours to the salt spray test as described in ASTM G85, Annex A1. There shall be no basis metal corrosion or blistering or discoloration. 4.9 Counter Tops. Counter tops with or without a fixture shall comply with Sections 5 of this standard. 5. TESTING REQUIREMENTS 5.1 Surface Test - Test the glass lavatory or sink and glass supporting structures in accordance with ANSI/IAPMO Z124.3 Section 3.3, Surface Test The unit shall be free from cracks, chipped areas and blisters. The number and size of molding and other defects or blemishes shall not exceed those given in Table 1 of ANSI/IAPMO Z Such defects shall be determined by inspection as specified in Copyright by International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials. 3 section 3.2 of ANSI/IAPMO Z124.3 after surface conditioning and application of ink as specified in section of ANSI/IAPMO Z Subsurface Test - Test the glass lavatory or sink and glass supporting structures in accordance with ANSI/IAPMO Z124.3 section 3.4, Subsurface Test There shall be no visible voids larger than 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) in diameter below the original finish surface. The maximum allowable number of voids smaller than 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) for the conditioned area shall be Point Impact Loads - A 38.1 mm (1 1/2 in.) diameter, 2.2N (1/2 lb.) steel ball shall be dropped three times from a height of 153 mm (6 in.) to strike three different points on flat areas on the top of the unit and any supporting structures and three times in different places inside the bowl. For the bowl test, one drop shall be made 51 mm (2 in,) from the drain, one 102 mm (4 in.) from the drain, and the last on a sloping area of the lavatory or sink The unit shall not shatter or break into pieces such that the fixture ceases to remain watertight. No evidence of leakage shall be visible while the unit is filled with water. 5.4 Stain Resistance - Test the glass lavatory or sink in accordance with ANSI/IAPMO Z124.3 section 5.2, Stain Resistance Test The maximum stain resistance rating shall be 50. The maximum allowable thickness of material removed to eliminate the stain shall be inch (0.127 mm). 5.5 Chemical Resistance - Test the glass lavatory or sink and any supporting structures in accordance with ANSI/IAPMO Z124.3 section 5.5, Chemical Resistance Test The surface finish shall be unaffected by the reagents except for superficial surface changes which are removable by sanding with 600 grit wet or dry sandpaper and water. Any resulting damage shall not impair the serviceability of the unit, and shall be easily repairable using abrasive and polishing compounds to approximate the original finish. 5.6 Thermal Shock Resistance - Test the glass lavatory or sink in accordance with ANSI Z124.3 section 5.6.1, Water Thermal Shock Resistance Test There shall be no cracking, crazing, blistering, delamination or spalling. 5.7 Load Test Wall Hung Units Affix the lavatory or sink to a solid test stand in accordance with the manufacturer s installation instructions. If the manufacturer provides a support structure device with the lavatory or sink, that device shall be employed for this test. The unit shall withstand the test load of 100 lbs for 5 minutes applied at the center bottom of the lavatory or sink. A 3 diameter distribution disk with a 1/2 thick rubber sponge shall be placed between the load and the sample surface being tested. No evidence of leakage or structural damage shall be visible anywhere Units with or without Integral Counter Tops Units with integral counter tops shall comply with the requirements of Section 4.4 (Loads on Lavatory Tops) in ANSI/IAPMO Z Kitchen Sinks. Kitchen sinks shall comply with the testing and performance requirements in Sections Knife Drop Test, Skillet Drop Test, 5.6 Heated Pan Test and 5.7 Hot Wax Test in ANSI/IAPMO Z MARKING AND IDENTIFICATION 6.1 All glass lavatories, sinks and/or counter tops shall bear the following markings: (a) Manufacturer's name or trademark 6.2 All required markings shall be permanent and legible and applied so as to be visible after installation.
