1 SECTION 1102 STREET LIGHTING GENERAL INFORMATION The Idaho State Electrical Board has determined that all street lights are to be provided with an external fuse disconnect, in a junction box between the power source and the street light pole. See attached standard drawings for connection requirements. Installations will require inspections for the concrete base reinforcing, bedding, backfill, and for the pole and associated wiring. Contact City of Meridian at (208) for inspections, 48 hour notice required. Contractor shall notify the City when street lights are ready to be energized by Idaho Power. PART 2 MATERIALS 2.2 JUNCTION BOXES A. Deleted Junction boxes shall not be allowed in roadways. B. Replace paragraph B with the following: 2.4 CONDUCTOR 1. Junction boxes located within sidewalk, landscaped median, or landscaped areas between sidewalk and roadway shall be high density reinforced precast concrete type N09 or approved equal with reinforced concrete bolt-down lid marked ELECTRICAL. 2. Junction boxes located behind sidewalk shall be UL approved concrete or plastic box with bolt-down lid marked ELECTRICAL. B. Deleted Overhead connection of street lights shall not be allowed except in unusual circumstances approved by the CITY ENGINEER. 2.5 CONDUIT A. Deleted - Above ground conduit runs shall not be allowed. 2.8 MAST ARMS FOR WOOD POLES DELETE THIS SECTION 2.9 WOOD POLES DELETE THIS SECTION
2 2.10 METAL POLES Replace Paragraph B with the following: B. Pole Finish: 1. Type 1 - Mast Arm Street Lights shall be galvanized steel. 2. Type 2 - Shoebox Street Lights shall be Lithonia Lighting model SSS (square straight steel) or approved equal, with dark bronze corrosion resistant polyester powder coating and pre-drilled for mounting fixture with unused holes plugged. Replace Paragraph C with the following: C. Pole installation to be with concrete base only, per paragraph 2.14 and Meridian City Standard Drawings T1 and T HISTORICAL POLES Replace the entire section with the following: A. Historical poles used in the City of Meridian s downtown urban renewal area shall be heavy wall, cast aluminum produced from certified ASTM ingot per ASTM B179-95a or ASTM B The castings shall be formed true to the pattern with complete detail. All hardwire shall be tamper resistant stainless steel. Anchor bolts to be completely hot dipped galvanized. Historical poles shall be: 1. Black in color. 2. Model Holophane CP12C18CABK AB 24 6 FG SBKH (2) BABD18H3B. See Meridian City Standard Drawing T4. 3. Designed to accept Holophane head, model ARU15AHPMTBG3 CH, or approved equal. 4. Installed with Holophane cast aluminum banner arms BA24H/1/BO or BA24H/1.5/BO, or approved equal. 5. Installed with Holophane weatherproof receptacle with GRCI, part no. FG-SXXH, or approved equal. 6. Pole installation to be with concrete base per paragraph 2.14 and per Meridian City Standard Drawing T3.
3 2.14 CONCRETE POLE BASES D. Base dimensions and construction shall conform to Standard Drawings T1 or T3, (For related pole type). E. All street light foundations shall be located such that no existing conduit, pipe or other underground utility facility conflicts with the entire volume of the pole foundation. If a conflict with an existing street light conduit or an existing traffic signal conduit exists, the Contractor shall relocate the existing conduit out of the area of conflict. If a potential conflict with any underground utility facility other than street light or traffic signal conduit exists, the Contractor shall bring the potential conflict to the attention of the City. Conformance with these provisions as required to complete the Work, including relocation of existing street light and/or traffic signal conduits, shall be considered incidental to and included in the payment for street light installation and no additional compensation will be made PREFABRICATED BASES NOT ALLOWED - DELETE THIS SECTION 2.17 LIGHT FIXTURES Replace Paragraph A with the following: A. Light fixture wattages shall be as follows: watt for Type 1 - Mast Arm Luminaires watt for Type 2 -Shoebox Street Lights watt for downtown historical lights, or as approved or directed by the City Engineer. C. DELETED D. Fixtures to have I.E.S. full cutoff distribution reflector. E. Acrylic or glass flat lens with internal refractor I.E.S. type III Medium distribution. Other types may be approved depending on the roadway geometrics. F. Approved fixture head types are as follows: 1. Shoebox fixture for Type 2 lights, Lithonia Lighting model KAD 100S R3, or approved equal. 2. Cobra Head fixture for Type 1 lights, General Electric model M-400 with full cutoff optics, or approved equal. 3. Historical light fixtures used in the City of Meridian s urban renewal area shall be Holophane head, model ARU15AHPMABG3 H (S-67516), or approved equal
4 PART 3 WORKMANSHIP 3.1 EXAMINATIONS B. Verify that required clearances are available: 6. Fire hydrants: 5 feet side, 5 feet to the front. 3.2 JUNCTION BOX INSTALLATION A. Install at the power source and to locations as shown on the plans. If not shown, space equidistant, not to exceed 250 feet, along straight conduit runs, at sharp bends, wire splices or where conduit junctions occur. C. Install the junction box on a 6" thick bed of compacted crushed aggregate base material that extends 4 inches beyond the exterior of the box sides. D. Junction boxes shall not be installed in driveways or roadways. 3.3 WIRE OR CONDUCTORS D. Overhead connection of street lights shall not be allowed. E. Overhead connection of street lights shall not be allowed. 3.4 CONDUIT INSTALLATION B. Underground: 6. In landscaped areas: Minimum 24 inches. 9. RED detectable marking tape with minimum 1 lettering reading WARNING: BURIED ELECTRICAL LINE BELOW shall be placed in trenches above all conduit. 3.6 DISCONNECT BOXES NOT ALLOWED - DELETE THIS SECTION 3.7 GROUNDING A. Attach pole ground to rebar cage by means of NEC code approved grounding connector. 3.8 CONCRETE POLE BASES F. Base installation and dimensions shall conform to City of Meridian Standard Drawings T1 or T3, whichever is specific to the pole type. 3.9 POLE INSTALLATION
5 A. Excavate pole foundations to neat lines. B. Pole installations shall conform to City of Meridian Standard Drawings T1 or T3, whichever is specific to the pole type. C. Historical poles to be installed in accordance with City of Meridian Standard Drawings T2 and T3. D. All poles shall be installed under the power company required clearances shown on ISPWC Standard Drawing SD F. Fill entire hole with concrete per ISPWC Section 703. Ensure soils around base have achieved proper compaction of 92% dry density. G. DELETE - NOT USED FOR MERIDIAN CITY INSTALLATIONS H. DELETE - NOT USED FOR MERIDIAN CITY INSTALLATIONS J.
