1 PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 GENERAL A. Division 1 General Requirements applies and becomes a part of this Section of the Specification as fully as if repeated herein. B. Items of equipment which are included in the scope of work of this section are referenced in the Itemized List of Equipment in Section SUMMARY A. Types of work in this section include: PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIALS 1. Stainless steel countertop- Kitchen island. A. Stainless steel (may be denoted by the abbreviation s.s. or st. st. in this specification) sheet, strip, plate, and flat bar: ASTM-A167-81A, (18-8 Analysis) Type 304, with AISI No. 4 finish for exposed and semi concealed surfaces, unless otherwise specified, 180 grit finish, free of buckets, pits, warps and imperfections. Ensure that direction of grain matches wherever possible on abutting panels. B. Stainless steel tubing: ASTM-A269 type 304, seamless and welded, AISI No. 4 Finish. All tubing to be 16 gauge wall thickness, sizes shown are outside Diameter And face. C. Nuts, bolts, screws, washers and other fastenings: type 304 stainless steel. D. Gauges of material refer to U.S. Standard Gauges. 1. Table tops, counter tops, pot sinks, back splashes 14 gauge s.s. Note: Laminated construction consisting of 16 gauge s.s. on 14 Gauge satin coat may be used only if clearly identified on shop drawings Reviewed by the Consultant. 2. Shelves, utility sinks, angle slides. Bumper guards 16 gauge s.s

2 3. Cabinet bodies 20 gauge s.s. 4. Interior shelves, kick plates 18 gauge s.s. E. Galvanized steel sheet: ASTM-A526 with 2.2 oz. copper bearing, G165 coating with regular spangle appearance Galvanized steel sheet shall not be used as an exposed surface unless specifically specified. Where specified for use as an exposed surface, galvanized steel shall be finished with one coat primer and two coats air dry enamel, silver gray unless otherwise specified. F. Structural Steel:New material, cleaned and primed. 120A, G. Sound deadening material under metal work surfaces: Non-absorbent, hard drying, sound deadening compound for permanent adhesion to metal that does not chip, flake, or blister in 1/8 thickness Aquaplas F- gray, or approved equivalent. H. Plywood: As specified in Section 11402, Fabricated Casework and Finish Carpentry. I. Particle board will not be permitted for use as a panel substrate, as a backup, or in any other fabricated form, unless specified in the Itemized List of Equipment. J. Laminated plastic face sheet for flatwork (vertical and horizontal): General Purpose Grade, 0.05 thick. Manufactured by Formica, Nevamar, or Wilsonart, unless otherwise specified, with an abrasion/wear resistant surface where available. Color and finish to be selected by the Consultant from manufacturer s standard range. K. Laminated plastic backing sheet: Shall be the selected face sheet manufacturer s standard, 0.02 thick. L. Solid polymer sheet: As specified in section 11402, Fabricated Casework and Finish Carpentry. M. Any fabrication of solid polymer product must be performed by a qualified Tradesman or firm having the necessary skill and experience acceptable

3 2.2 CONSTRUCTION A. Tops to the Product manufacturer. Metal 1. Stainless steel tops: 14 gauge continuous sheets all welded. Tops made of multiple sheets shall have all joints and seams continuously welded, ground smooth and polished to blend with adjacent surfaces. surface grain on adjacent sheets to be aligned wherever possible. 2.3 WELDING 2. Stainless steel tables with sinks shall have a marine type edge on all Open sides unless otherwise specified. 3. Reinforcing shall be minimum 12 gauge stainless steel 4 x 1 channel, Arranged so that forms are concealed from normal view. Secure reinforcing to tops with stud welding, and silicone if necessary. Tops supporting coffee urns, ice dispensers or other heavy equipment shall have additional bracing to support the heavy loads. A. All welding shall conform to national and state requirements and related Specifications, and be performed by certified technicians. Exposed welds shall be continuous, filed or ground smooth and flush, and polished to match adacent surfaces. Use methods that minimize distortion and develop strength and corrosion resistance base metal. B. Electric seamless welding shall utilize low carbon filler rod, coated with non- Carbonaceous flux with sufficient chromium and nickel so that the deposited metal and the original metal have the same composition. C. Welds shall be free from gas holes, pits, cracks, dis-colorization and other imperfections. D. Provide full penetration welds for full-joint length. Welded joints shall be butt fitted, properly jigged, flat continuous, ground smooth and polished for exposed conditions

4 E. Where soldering is desirable, it shall be made with tin-lead solder. In no case shall soldering be relied upon for the stability of the seam or joint. Soldering shall serve only as a filler to prevent leakage, and shall not be considered as a replacement for welding or brazing. F. Butt joints made by spot welding or riveting straps under seams and filling with Solder, puddle welds and exposed screws are not acceptable. G. Exposed dimples from welding studs on underside of tops other surfaces is not Acceptable. Polish surface to match and blend with adjacent surfaces. H. Welds on galvanized steel shall be smooth and strong. Remove all slag and carbonization. Where galvanizing has been burned off, touch up on both sides with high grade aluminum paint. 2.4 FABRICATION A. Before fabrication commences, check all dimensions and conditions at the building site, including means of access into and through the building to the area where equipment is to be set in place, for all conditions affecting the delivery and installation of the equipment. B. Fix and assemble work in the shop wherever possible. Execute the work in accordance with design details and shop drawings which have been reviewed and accepted by the Consultant. Where complete or final shop fabrication is not possible, make a trial assembly in the shop prior to delivery. C. Workmanship shall be of the best grade of modern shop and field practice for manufacturers who specialize in this work. D. Fabricate and erect work square, plumb, straight, true, rigid and accurately fitted. Provide adequate reinforcing and anchorage in all places

5 E. Insulate where necessary to prevent electrolysis between dissimilar metals, and corrosion between metal and masonry or concrete. F. All drillings to be reamed and exposed edges left clean and smooth. G. Do not use pop rivets unless clearly noted on shop drawings, and then only if Such drawings have been reviewed/acknowledged. H. Accurately follow the methods of construction, reinforcement and anchorage, as well as details of finish, fitting and joining, and other data indicated on shop drawings. No deviations from shop drawings which have been reviewed/acknowledged will be permitted during construction of equipment or installation. I. The gauge of metal and methods of construction shall in all cases be adequate for the various conditions to be met, with the requirements of the design details and Specifications considered as minimum. Finished equipment shall be rigid when Assembled and installed. J. Use stainless steel, type 204, for all fastenings and fittings unless otherwise specified. All bolts and screws shall have truss heads, or flat heads which are properly countersunk, at exterior and interior surfaces which are normally visible. Use concealed fastenings throughout, unless otherwise approved by the Consultant. Cap exposed fastener threads, including those inside cabinets, With stainless steel lock washers and stainless steel cap (acorn) nuts. K. Sheet material for counter tops, tables, shelves and similar forms shall be straight lengths, in one continuous sheet if not over 10-0 long. L. Make provisions in the equipment for the proper installation of mechanical and electrical services and connections. Provide pipe slots on equipment with turned up edges and sized to accommodate services. Cut and patch only when necessary. Finish completed installation without rough edges or exposed openings. Provide Welded sleeves, collars, ferrules or escutcheons as required to properly finish and Trim these openings. M. Allow for expansion and contraction of materials. N. Pre-plumb all fabricated items and make all necessary interconnections

6 with the item. All connection terminals shall be easily accessible ready for final connections by the plumbing trades. O. Verify the dimensions and services of all pieces of equipment which may be supplied by others, but are to become a part of a unit specified under this work, in order to endure a proper fit and coordinate installation. P. Supply and install all stainless steel strips and filler pieces necessary to properly finish any individual item or combination of equipment. PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Locate and install all counter tops in accordance with Contract Drawings and reviewed shop drawings. B. Complete equipment field assembly, where required. Provide closed butt and hairline contact joints that do not require a filler. Grind field welds smooth, and polish to match adjacent finish. Comply with Welding, Fabricating and Finishing articles of this Section. END OF SECTION
